those new customers he's talking about are not custumers at all. they visit the shop only when there is a nike drop, they don't skate, don't buy anything from the store exept the hype shoes. yeah, it's a few thousand of instagram followers and thats cool I guess but there are not customers so...
@Turtleboykid
@Turtleboykid 4 года назад
yeah but at the same time thats putting money in the shop and gives them a chance to keep running and potentially expose more and more people to skateboarding. you can be purist and bitter all you want but people gotta eat and a shop going out of business can effect a community greatly.
@lorahester7

@@Turtleboykid Selling a couple thousand bucks of Nikes isn't enough money to sustain a business. Not even close. Kuba is right, skate shops need real customers.

yeah of course, but the hype shoes are super limited, my shop had like 30 pairs of the Travis Dunks. sure that’s better than nothing but it’s not like a super huge payout for the shop. and also you have to remember that Nike pics only the most successful shops for their releases, not the struggling ones.

Hype beasts swarming to skate shops just to buy these shoes makes me laugh, they don’t know shit about skateboard culture but love to wear our gear and pose hard all day. Also not every shop well at least the small scale shops don’t carry these shoes so I’m not sure how Travis Scott or Nike SB is helping the entire skate community.

Dude he’s not helping skateboarding he’s capitalizing on skateboarders yes those shops that carried the sbs probably made a bunch of loot of em but how many shops don’t carry Nike SB they aren’t benefiting at all off this shit

I used to work at a shop before they closed down and we had to cancel our Nike account because of how f'd up Nike's policies were regarding having an account with them. Nike doesn't care about skateboarding. Nike cares about themselves and their bank account.

so all in all he helped skateboarding. yes not all shops carry sb but for him to keep it off online and in shop only is fascinating. stop hating... you are just some guy with a stick in his bum. I don't love nike but high five to them and travis

joe carter I’m not hating I’m stating facts this doesn’t help skateboarding this helps NIKE and the shops that carry them. I could see if hypothetically speaking he opens his own skateshop and carry’s other brands besides Nike and his own but I don’t see that happening shit his online store for his original drop of decks didn’t even have size’s listed you gonna tell me he actually cares? Get real and go visit a skateshop that actually gives a fuck about the people around them then you can tell me how it benefits them cause it don’t

@@lorahester7 all of this is opinion based. It's how you look at it. Some would say when you love something you would do anything to keep it going. Even taking money from someone you may think doesn't love it as much as you do. The more eyes and ears that are towards skateboarding the better. A lot of "purists" complain about how tough skateboarding is and how skaters should make more....this is how it happens, guys in other sports are paid so much more because look at all of the eyes they bring to the sport. That person whos only coming in for the shoes could end up loving all of the skate shoe silhouettes and continuing to buy.

And will have put more towards skateboarding then you will ever have. Yes you're probably a full time skaters rat that goes back to the same shops but over your lifetime you won't be spending as much as travis has made for multiple shops. The fact that he's new to the scene says even more. He just got into it and is already trying to help, doesn't matter if it's just once. Have you tried to help skate shops at all. Other than buying whatever product you need. Charity isn't only based on money. You can donate time to clean up parks and help promote your local shops but do you? And you'll probly say I don't know you but you don't know travis either so.....

For real haha they think skaters should be paid millions like other athletes but then want the sport to stay underground and just for them. Even if it's a tiny percentage of people who return to the store after the dunks are sold out, that's customers you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. The only reason they even know of your store is because of the shoe release.

I'm confused, I'm reading complaints about ppl going in to buy a BASKETBALL SNEAKER with an air zoom unit from skateshops. As someone who loves both skating and sneakers, I can tell you sneaker heads won't ruin your culture. (Nike wasn't ever accepted by skaters if I remember correctly.) also the sb dunks that have ppl flooding(mostly the hype beast resellers) the skateshop is a basketball shoe. So i guess I'm tryna figure out why are skaters so upset. 1 Saturday a month you share space with a guy picking up shoes from a place that "maybe" pressed for rent money.(Sneakers sale more than boards) so If a sneaker head saw the foy N .B. and they buy a pair NOT to skate ,but to wear . The shop would still get the sale ,the "pinch god" still gets his royalties, and the customer gets a clean pair of kick. Everyone wins. This isn't about shoes or travis, it's about the culture of skateboarding being elites. The idea that you'd have to prove yourself before you can be apart of or have a love for the culture is crazy. Imagine if blk ppl actively did this with hip hop... JUDGEMENTAL

I'm not a skater I'm just a sneakerhead that loves nike/jordan brand. I'm all for travis bringing energy to the skateshops but I wasn't a fan of how some skateshops handled the release. Travis definitely alienated a huge demographic by only allowing skateshops to release his shoe but in the end travis had pure intentions. I had to pay over retail to acquire my pair from a shop that backdoored their inventory but it's part of the sneaker culture.

Some of these comments are so dumb. Calling him a loser is a pretty stupid. He is way to busy to relearn skating and can’t afford to injure himself. People just need to appreciate that he kept the drop exclusive to shops and gave them money in there pockets. I also don’t remember when Travis claimed to be a skater. He invested his time and made a great video as-well.
