I did my doctoral dissertation on the issue of self-identified evangelicals being co-opted by a nationalistic metanarrative. I finished it in 2003 during the runup to the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Sadly, it has aged very well. What was hard for me to imagine at the time was the insane depths to which it would turn out to be true in the days of Donald. This is not Christianity we are witnessing among evangelicals; it is pure cult behavior. It has nothing to do with Jesus. With these folks, if Donald and Jesus are in conflict (which, let's face it, is always), Donald wins every time. What a sad, embarrassing, shameful day for the evangelical church.

Religion trains your mind to believe fantastical stories bypassing reason and logic. Stories without evidence of being real. The Evangelicals are or have a certain societal foundation that radiates certain values , beliefs, characteristics, qualities, etc. Trump is the physical embodiment of that foundation. Defining Biblical sheep. To live in a world where if I weren’t born, no one would miss me, places all consequences of my being here on me. Not god. Modern religion might insist it’s wanting to do the right thing for the right reason, but it’s taking the wrong path to an empty meaning. I’m simply saying today’s religious foundations are based on seasoned sprinkles on a fear psychology of control, that will not lead to truth in personal meaning by not allowing us to look; showing it’s initial false premise being clueless to individuals need to be accountable and at peace conscientiously within themselves, where the true god is. Guiding us as blind looking for personal meaning through other believers eyes where we are guaranteed to never find it. When the abstracts that look so literal as a child should grow to figurative in the child’s adulthood leaving a moral open minded person is absent, it is the missing teaching, And defines Biblical sheep in any modern religion.
