Find out how Trustkill Records put metalcore on the map, from its roots in the 90s DIY hardcore scene to becoming one of the top metal/hardcore labels of the 2000s, and finally its demise in 2010.
- How Trustkill founder Josh Grabelle got started booking shows in his New Jersey basement for Earth Crisis, Lifetime, Snapcase, Hatebreed and more
- Trustkill's early releases like the "Land Of Greed, World Of Need" compilation and bands like Despair, Harvest, and Brother's Keeper among many others
- Defining releases like the Hellfest 2000 DVD with Converge, Every Time I Die, Bane, and Shai Hulud, the groundbreaking Poison The Well album "The Opposite Of December" and the gold-selling "Poison" by Bullet For My Valentine
- The "golden years" of Trustkill Records, when they got metalcore bands like Eighteen Visions, Bleeding Through, and Walls of Jericho on MTV's Headbanger's Ball and Ozzfest
- The distribution deal with Fontana/Universal that ultimately lead Josh to walk away from Trustkill and start Bullet Tooth Records
- Interviews with Josh on No Echo bit.ly/2V1oo5w and Lambgoat bit.ly/2WnLHXu

yo can you do a video on the Socal Skacore scene. its probably be hard since its underground and theres to many bands but i think it would make for a interesting video. its pretty dope, majority of it is a mixture of mexican/latino sound with, jamaican ska, and hardcore punk.

Poison the Well is probably one of the most underrated bands of all time. You Come Before You (one of the best Metalcore albums of all time imo) was unlike anything else that had ever come out before it, and to this day stands out as something beyond Metalcore. That album was deep lyrically, and instrumentally they were experimenting with new sounds and ways of writing songs. Anyone that hasn't heard You Come Before You should quit whatever you are doing and listen to that album. You can get a new job later.
@wolfhawk1999
@wolfhawk1999 5 лет назад
@TheWellDisease hell yeah. Definitely. You Come Before You has some bangers, but some of the songs have bad connotations for me so I can't listen to them (Loved Ones and The Realist for example). Love them, though. Got to see them on their reunion tour. It was a lot of fun.

Poison the Well literally changed the game! Not only were they Trustkills biggest seller with Opposite of December, but Poison the Well were the first of these bands to sign with a Major label, with Atlantic, with You Come Before You. They were also the only band to change their sound with each album, not wanting to be the band that plays the same songs in the same style on repeat like most of the other Trustkill bands.

Bands like PoisonThe Well, Eighteen Visions, Bleeding Through, Throwdown, Most Precious Blood, Terror, Walls Of Jericho and It Dies Today were my favourites. This video also reminded me on how good Hopesfall were. Totally forgot Bullet For My Valentine started off on Trustkill also. Man, so many great bands came from trustkill and I really miss that label. Would be cool if you could do more videos on Labels such as Trustkill. Poison the well was always a band that was ahead of their time. They basically invented the metalcore sound and then in two albums managed to transition to a sound that to this day is still super unique. Eighteen Visions also had a very southern hardcore vibe that a lot of bands later expanded on. Trustkill was definitely a super influential label for metal music as a whole.

Love a lot of these bands, specifically Poison The Well. Met those guys back in 2003 at a music festival in Germany. One of my buds knew the guys and met up with them backstage. We told them that there was a US Air Base close by and asked if they wanted anything from there. First thing they immediately snapped to... Taco bell, so we drove out to Base knowing that we would miss Saves The Day, Thrice and part of Boy Sets Fire, but was well worth it. The dudes were awesome to us, funny and generally good dudes. Been fans of them and their ilk since then. Trustkill had some amazing acts and they really did have a specific sound and you always knew what a Trustkill band sounded like (In a good way)

Quick Bleeding Through story to show what type of band they were. The year was 2006, the Ozzfest tour was in full effect but of course I lived in a little town in Southern Oregon. One day we get a call from a friend who was at Taco Bell. " Dude, Bleeding Through is at Taco Bell" We called bullshit and he puts Brandan Schipetti (sorry for the spelling) on the phone. We all smash down to Taco Bell and they all take pictures and are the coolest of people, they were just trying to get some food on an off day on Ozzfest, and let us just annoy them. We tell them that there was a show that night and they all talk and say they want to play. Some of us rode on their bus, others in friends cars, but we go to the venue and load them in. They played their Ozzfest set for us, for free and let us hang out with them for the night. They were so gracious and kind, I will never forget it. years later in 2009 they did a small tour with a some tiny bands at the time Motionless in White and Miss May I. They played in a barn in the middle of southern Oregon with my friend's band opening . Great memories. Anyway, Have a nice day everyone! I heard from someone during the height of ozzfest, labels like Trustkill and Victory were paying 100k to put a band on ozzfest.

My old band flew up to Alaska (of all places) and opened up for Walls of Jericho for two back to back shows in 2015. And they still kill it with stage presence and raw sound. Those shows were a lot of fun. Cool to see a bit of how they were part of musical history.

I loved TK records! I preordered ‘The Caitiff Choir’ from It Dies Today my senior year in high school in my Digital design class. It was DOPE. PTW was another huge band in my area (south Florida) along with NFG and a smaller but amazing band called DKLIMB I think kind of shaped the local/bigger music scene from that time frame. Finn, I’d LOVE to see a video like this on Eulogy Recordings.

Love this video. If not for Trustkill I might not be in the same music as I am now. 2002-03 music changed when literally finding 3 cds on the ground at school and one by one listening to them and could not stop. 1) hopesfall 2) Every Time I Die 3) Poison The Well. After that everything changed. Not knowing at the time but Trustkill was a LOT of the stuff I was listening to after that. Good or bad from then on, I am glad someone out there is giving them recognition and some praise for everything they brought, because if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't be this far.

As a Floridian that graduated high school in '05, Trustkill was HUGE for my friends and I. Terror, First Blood, .hopesfall., It Dies Today, etc played Florida a bunch back then, and all those shows ruled. Fight Paris did too, and we vandalized their trailer one time and they attempted to fight my friends and I. All of these things are great memories.

I went to that Disembodied/Brothers Keeper tour for Oxymoron. Maybe 50 kids but damn, everyone there lived and breathed the scene. Hellfest DVD was a gamechanger, those 18V performances were wild, loved the onstage antics as they were nice change from bball jersey camo short tough guy redundancy. Great work, hope you drop a downset vid in the future. Cheers.

As someone who went to Hellfest back in 2000, I can say that it ranks very high among the many live music performances I've been to. Never heard of Poison The Well and was blown away after seeing them. Also the first day of the fest was cancelled due to issues with the original venue and still had a great time. Great work on this vid!

I interviewed Jay from hopesfall back in the day and the relationship with Trustkill is what essentially ended hopesfall after Magnetic North. They were so incensed that trustkill removed the song "Saskatchewan" off the album without even telling the band. It was pretty much their favorite song on the album. The band had the song on their live set lists last year a big "fuck you" to Trustkill along with putting it back where it belonged on the vinyl re-release. Sidenote: their comeback album last year was Goddamn wonderful

Caught Walls of Jericho on their first Euro tour (with Undying) in a small venue for 30 people... Blew me away (2003, I think. Before "All Hail the Dead" was released) Bleeding Through was added last minute to the Converge show in Amsterdam, the day before their first Euro tour (supporting Sick Of It All, together with Walls of Jericho) - saw both at the SOIA show the day after. (BT are amazing, and yet so down to earth - always stayed that way. Same goes for WOJ) Saw Most Precious Blood when they were touring "Our Lady of Annihilation" (Rob Fusco = dope and super chill) Saw Throwdown, Terror, Walls of Jericho at Pressure Festival (Germany) in 2004 I think... (That was a ridiculous lineup, by the way... Blood For Blood, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, Agnostic Front, The Hope Conspiracy... The list goes on an on...) Played support for Poison the Well in Amsterdam in 2007 Went to see every show of Trustkill bands that I could; BT, WOJ, Terror, Eighteen Visions, Throwdown, Most Precious Blood, It Dies Today, Bullet For My Valentine, I all saw several times during those years

RIP Trustkill. I still remember watching MTV2 and the video for "Wings Of Lead" by Bleeding Through coming on. Shortly after, I drove down to my local music shop and bought "This Is Love, This Is Murderous." Then I bought "The Truth." When "The Truth" released it came with a Summer Sampler of Trustkill bands - Hopesfall, Most Precious Blood, Terror, Walls Of Jericho, Bullet For My Valentine etc. This was a super smart promotional move by Trustkill - exposing my influential teenage mind to the vast world of hardcore. I know there is a lot of animosity and discord when it came to the end but I just want to say thank you Trustkill and thank you Finn for putting in work on these videos! X A X
