In Italy anyone caught faking olive oil, i.e mixing it with other cheap oils or dying vegetable oil green and labelling in olive oil, they get thrown in jail. This is the correct approach in my opinion to people who pervert something as important as the food we put in our bodies and as the consumer has to trust that all food is correctly labelled and must be real food with severe penalties for those caught abusing this trust.

The problem with ultra-processed foid is that all major food companies make it and they're unable to stop. A few CEOs have tried to change the food these companies make and they got thrown out by shareholders who wanted a bigger profit margin. What we need is legislation that bans ultra-processed food.

I love debating the “eating healthy is expensive”… I personally can’t eat fast food without spending a minimum $10… meanwhile, at my grocery’s store, I can get a rotisserie chicken, potato and a veggie for less than that… just my anecdotal experience
Agreed, people tell me carnivore is expensive but i eat 99% of my steaks and everything and i feel comfortable eating twice a day. I think its far more efficient.

I have new-found appreciation for my mom, who strictly banned these kinds of foods in her household when me and my siblings were growing up... I used to hate the fact that my mom was so "not cool" while other moms would buy my friends Lucky Charms and Pop Tarts and so on... Now, as a mom myself, I am so grateful that she was so strict the way she was. 🙏
For real, never understood how unbelievably lucky I was to have my mom cook for me every day. Not a single one of us 4 kids ever had weight issues, we all had 6 packs instead. God bless the hardworking mommas out there
Growing up, I had a lot of plain cereal and no sugar. I didn't really start eating things with sugar like cakes, cookies, etc until preteens/teens. Now I'm a mom and I don't give my child sweets or anything with a lot of sugar.
My mom was the same it was a function of economics. With seven kids LuckyChams would have been gone in less than a day. Cheerios and corn flakes were much cheaper so it wasn’t nutrition. I had my first Mac Donald’s meal when I was nine.
Same with my mom in the Seventies, although I've foolishly deviated with sugars but reeling it in lately. My mom is 93 in 2023 and very conscientious about what she eats, to this day.
baby steps, I like that, "controlling the micro culture". I started making small changes a few years ago, now I make all our bread, pasta, yogurt, fermented foods made at home, we do not even buy condiments...I make ALL of them. Also what we put on our bodies matters too. I make all my own household cleaners, laundry soaps, shampoo..Slowly getting healthier. from 400 plus lbs to 262 and still improving.
Congratulations, but I went cold turkey and gave up eating all UPFs. I make my own salad dressings, mayo, apple cider vinegar, and vegetable ferments. I gave up bread and all foods containing grains. No more baking. No more fast food or restaurants. Refined flour is addictive and causes chronic diseases. All the alternative doctors agree it's grains, sugar and industrially processed seed and bean oils (the 3 main ingredients in UPFs) that cause inflammation which is the root cause of all the chronic modern diseases of civilization. Obesity is just a symptom of insulin resistance and metabolic dysregulation.
The flour in bread is not different than the flour used in homemade baking. This is the exact problem with avoiding "processed" food instead of avoiding wheat and other starches. Pasta will cause similar harm like crackers.
ultra processed foods is a silent killer. I've been eating clean off and on for about 6 months. A few weeks ago a popular upcoming fast food joint was giving away free chicken sandwiches, I literally felt sick afterwards. Sluggish, stomach queasy, brainfog, etc. I used to think that health nuts would exaggerate the effects of fast food but boy its true.
I’ve experienced the same. I ate a burger at burger king the other day and absolutely felt terrible. It made me sleepy and sluggish. My stomach hurt and felt super tight and my mood dropped. It was incredible how bad it was. Imagine eating that crap all day or even once a day? No wonder everybody is miserable
i experienced something similar- i don’t have many high sugar treats nowadays and i had a slice of cake recently. i had such a bad stomach ache afterwards! once your body isn’t used to eating junk any more and you go back it, it’s so scary seeing the reaction, and knowing that i ate like that on a regular basis without a second thought…
I appreciate your honesty. I have been on and off on eating clean too, sometimes when I regress and eat too much junk, I literally feel sick and tired. Junk food makes us depressed too- just RU-vid gut brain connection. They make the processed food so addictive, it’s not easy, but we can do it!
I stopped eating plastic food (that's what I call it) a long time ago. If I ever eat a pop tart, chips, etc, it makes me so sick. I can also taste the garbage oils and other inedible ingredients.
I love how he began with the fact that your body will build and rebuild itself with the things you eat. If you put junk in, you get junk cells. Your body will not use heavily modified substrate well. I went whole natural foods "keto" and it was the closest thing to a miracle i will ever experience. So many things got better. I tear up just thinking about it.😢
@@Gesundheit888 Beans/lentils are great, lots of fiber and protein. Fruits have vitamins and fiber also, most are low/medium on the glycemic index. Blood sugar rises even if you're eating close to no carbs, your brain needs dat glucose,. It'll create it from either your fat or protein.
at 64 I am currently staying away from anything outside of healthy food and supplements… as any divergence from this directly affects my performance in the gym and in life. I am growing in strength and endurance still, and hope to maintain physical capacities over the next 2 or three decades
I'm 72 & gaining muscle mass. I rarely eat restaurant or other ultra processed food. I cook veggies, fish, shell fish & meat. Like you, attending a gym 5x a week, walking 15k steps every day. At this age, i'm becoming a body builder. It's the food, not the exercise, but both are important.
Supplements are bad. You should be getting your nutrients from food alone. The body needs the components of the food itself to integrate the vitamins properly.
The bacteria in our gut can cause us to go after or want to eat certain foods and you can change that and change what you crave. I used to struggle with sugar and ultra processed food cravings (like it controlled me), now after trying to deny myself and not have it as much or not at all over a period of 2 months.. now it is easy for me to not want anything sugary or ultra processed, (the desserts and junk foods). I can easily say no and remain in control of myself, even with my relative enjoying it right in front of me.

I am working hard to educate my geriatric parents on nutrition. They have been so brain washed over the years about food. Now their health is really playing out all the years of bad food choices and it is heart breaking
I tried that with my parents and eventually gave in. It was too late for my dad, sadly, who passed away this year - his daily sugar intake was off the charts. But my mom knows all this stuff because I've tried drumming it into her but she's just not interested. She hears me, she understands it, then criticises me for being "too picky", and would rather carry on with her metformin and statins...
It's an addiction 😫. Education isn't going to do it. It takes rehabilitation with fasting and abstinence to get it out of their systems. But, if they won't even acknowledge they are addicted to sugar and poisonous frankenfoods, there's not much hope for a change.
@@lisabeaumont My brother is the same, I have no idea how to help, makes cookies and eats half of them in a night, then a whole chocolate bar, a mug brownie, ice cream, etc. Ridiculous, probably having 1000 grams of sugar a week on average. Fucked up thing, he has a hernia and getting fatter makes it worse, then talks shit about fast food, like bruh at least you can get high protein foods from fast food even if its processed, you're just eating pure sugar.
Fortunately my wife has always cooked with fresh food and kept to three meals a day with very limited snacks so we have kept slim all our lives while we have seen many around us gain weight to our visual detriment. My wife may have only been a part time worker but how beneficial was the other time in feeding our family correctly so that we have stayed slim and have no health problems. That loss of earnings and not going on expensive holidays has been worth far more than any extra cash we may have earned.

When he said that his college nutrition professor was very overweight I was thinking the exact thing about mine! My professor had a lot of knowledge but she didn't apply it. She even asked me to give a special talk to the class about why I eat healthy bc she said they would take me seriously bc that's how I live and she obviously didn't have a healthy lifestyle.

I was taught most of this in 1974 in 10th grade health class by a gem of a teacher who myself and a few others took seriously. Many of his colleague teachers called him a faddist and quack😂😂 one of them 50 lbs overweight -- which is even more the case today. Thankyou Mr. D.

After losing one to heart disease I've put the other 2 on a pure ingredient diet. It is very expensive but after losing my boy, it's worth it to avoid that pain. I want them to die of old age. I try to eat as well as them now. It's easy to get lazy when it's just you. Nutrition is the magic that makes life good.
5 years ago I quit all the garbage “cold turkey”. It’s been the ultimate “cheat code/fountain of youth”. My diet today is primarily carnivore and steamed/sautéed veggies, coffee and water. 💥
That's the diet I'm on. Carbs aren't bad, just most carbs. Fruit and veggies are OK. Refined carbs are no different than some drugs. Kids get away with it because they're young, but it does come back to bite you later on.
This was a great discussion. I remember catching hell when my daughter was younger 15 years ago. One reason was because I did not give her cow milk. We never drank milk as a child in my family. That was weird. We didn't know people did that until we started kindergarten and got in trouble for not drinking a carton of milk. Another reason people bagged on us was because we didn't want our daughter having and man-made chemicals, junk food or junk drink. According to them, our child was suffering and abused. Our daughter is 15 now, in the gifted program, plays Varsity golf and track, and is a wonderfully kind human. I didn't use lotion, I used coconut oil. Her shampoo is my homemade soap. Hot oil treatments are her conditioner for her hair. Laundry soap is my homemade soap mixed with baking soda. We have out own garden she has helped with since she was born. She can go outside and eat all the apples, pears, grapes, berries, onions, garlic, melons, greens, etc, that her stomach can handle. She can eat garlic like grapes and onions like apples. She still goes trick or treating but has no desire for candy or chocolate other than some gum. She does like peppermint sticks and horehound candy. EverythingvI make is homemade. If we want cookies, we make it. It we want soda, we drink water kefir or kombucha. She has free choice now at 15 to eat what she wants. She doesn't like it. She said everything is too sweet or tastes like chemicals. She is not underweight and she has only had a cold once in her life. I wanted her body to focus on growing and not detoxing junk. We made sure she stayed away from chemical toothpastes and git a whole house reverse osmosis system. So for any parents out there, ignore people who try to pressure you into giving your child ultra processed food.
@TheSierra1983 we just never drank it as kids. It may be cultural for us. We barely even cooked with it. I never knew my grandmother's to ever have it in their house either. I would see buttermilk for biscuits. It just wasn't needed I suppose. I will have to ask my aunts.
So much of our ultra processed foods are ingrained in our culture. I grew up in the 60s and 70s eating all those fun sugared cereals, pop tarts, cookies, donuts, chips, kool aid, etc. I’m kind of bitter about it. Now that I’ve changed my diet, I’m the freak outlier. I get that it’s even worse in food deserts - criminal!
I know! I feel nostalgic about some of those I mentioned! Even something as simple as graham crackers and milk. It helps that I seem to have developed a gluten sensitivity -- my IBS is muuuuuch better without it!
Buddy it's even worse for us Millennials because to us a lunchable was COOL! We were the generation fully raise on processed foods. The 60'/70's at least still had truly home cooked meals. Us 90's kids were raised on str8 junk with both working parents.
@@ellamay3816 Yes, I was a little older by the lunchables era! And you're right -- I did have plenty of home cooked meals and tons of opportunity to run around outside to work off the junk food, including at school recess. My whole neighborhood mostly had stay at home moms....
Here in Chicago food deserts are the result of communities that rob and steal the stores out of business. Food deserts aren't found in areas of the city where decent folks actually pay for what they buy instead of just walking in, grabbing what they want, and then walk out the door without paying.
Somehow I have lived my life largely free of processed foods. Decade after decade of meats, eggs, plain yogurt, cheese and the occasional yard picked fruit. When I deep fry it is in lard or tallow. If I try and eat a fake food it makes me sick very fast. I am healthier than all my friends my age.
For profit private healthcare is a crime against Humanity. Keep the patient alive but have them be dependent on medication and/or treatment over decades (until their diseases eventually or suddenly kills them). Address the symptoms but ignore the underlying root causes of issues/illness ie type 2 diabetes (don't bother with preventative advice...or a larger focus on diet/lifestyle...nah take these pills...and then when the disease chronically progresses, give them insulin which makes the underlying issue worse).

This. I recently stopped watching a certain popular Dr on RU-vid as she constantly interrupts, switches gears and finishes sentences for her guests. It amnoyed me so much I had to stop watching her and find those guests elsewhere.
I was at the dentist last week and I was talking to a young man working there. I said when you go shopping, stick the the outside aisle only thats where the fresh fruits and vegetables ,meat and dairy are never go between the aisles thats where all the bad for food is he said he never knew that he was thinking really hard about that. They really should teach nutrition in school
I’ve been checking ingredients more and more especially in ultra processed foods. Cutting out anything with bioengineered ingredients has been a baby step. Next comes incorporating healthy choices for myself might influence my family to do the same. Be the change you want to see in others.
I’m 60 yrs old and starting eating cleaner, within a few months my asthma, bursitis and fibromyalgia have greatly improved, along with healing my acid reflux and heartburn. I’ve recently fell off the wagon and all my ailments are back, so I’m slowly starting to eat cleaner food again. And of coarse, always eat what you like and do some research on clean eating. It will be worth it.
Look around at the young people. What the young people don’t know is that we’ve never seen young people so fat. I’m an elder, and I’m horrified when I look at how sad people have become in the United States and they’re totally OK with it. They don’t recognize that those Doritos are going to kill you. They’re drinking themselves fat as well. If you want a long, healthy life with enough energy, and without chronic disease, you must stop all the processed foods.
It’s beyond ridiculous to try and blame the people for consuming the products that were intentionally designed to be convenient and addictive. It’s also insane that you say “young people” when this is a problem for all generations. Nearly every single old person I know is obese.

I've been eating clean whole foods for 4 years now. watching these reviews, I noticed most of the people were obese walking around with junk food in their hands. deep fried everything these people will eat a deep-fried tennis shoe. You make a great point. I was making a Costco return watching people as they exited. An overweight family (yes even their 2 young kids) had a cart PILED high with processed foods. Right behind them a skinny mom with a skinny daughter (maybe 8 years old) had 4 things in their cart: meat, 2 veggies and grapes. It was such a confirmation how critical our diet is!
I'm a two time cancer survivor, and I lost my mom to diabetes only a year before my first diagnosis. It was the worst time of my life, I've never been in so much pain, or felt so hopeless and depressed. Cancer doesn't consistently run in my family, neither does diabetes. I truly believe the modern American diet killed my mom, and almost killed me when I was only 15, and again at 20. We were a fairly poor household (this is NO way a comment blaming my parents in any way, my mom was very sick, and my dad did everything he could to care for our family). We ate a lot of very cheap, easy to make processed foods that often included high carbs and sugars to replace fats. Skim milk was always in the fridge, TV dinners were in the freezer, little Debbie snacks and soda were my breakfast. Everything was low fat, everything was quick and easy, everything was full of sugar. My parents did what they thought was good for us, what they were TOLD was good for us (and for them) by both doctors and the government. I watched my mom slowly die and almost died myself. There's a very good chance that you yourself or someone close to you has had or even succumbed to some type of auto immune disease, some certain of cancer, or (especially) diabetes. Our entire country has been unknowingly (until recently) poisoning/killing themselves through what we've been told is good to put into our bodies to stay happy and healthy. We've been collectively deceived in the name of money. Sugar and high carb foods, highly refined flours, sweeteners, vegetable oils, processed foods and chemicals have been poisoning and killing us for the last 40 years. I've been rotating between keto and Paleo for almost 7 years now and my blood tests now come back perfect. People like this bringing truth to the situation truly are saving lives. Please do your own research, and thank the doctors and other professionals coming out of the wood work to stop this from continuing into the next generation.
He talks about how companies may put on their packages or in their commercials that "you can't eat just one" (referring to chips).. It isn't just the crunch and flavor or amount of sugar and salt, it also needs to be considered that almost all of these chips (corn chips like cheetos and doritos and some potato chips) have MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) added to them which does something in the brain basically causing you to want to eat more and not turning off your hunger (grelin). MSG has an addictiveness component to it. It is also bad for your brain.
Every time I go grocery shopping, i make it a huge habit of mine to avoid the inner isles of the store. Getting my week’s worth of fresh poultry and veggies. It was challenging to ween off my sugar craving but my gut feels incredible now and I don’t feel bloated all the time like I used to. Also kombucha is something I just implemented in my diet a few months ago, and it’s a game changer for your stomach!
Same. I only buy staples and cook everything. I never and I mean never buy cookies, sodas and other things. I eat only what I make from staples plus once in a blue moon when i feel like eating something that I didnt make, I call up a local pizzeria and order a large pizza.
I've noticed grocery stores catching on to this "shopping the perimeter"... Noticed a sprinkling of fake foods being presented along the perimeter. 😮 Even worse, those perimeter foods have been altered.
The ultra processed foods (and sugary foods) isn't just really tasty like some natural foods, but it is dangerously ULTRA tasty and it is engineered to be that way.. making them addictive to many people.

I'm 65yo in January. Started reading labels when I was around 17yo. Processed food by dollars is way more expensive if you break it down per meal. I became convinced the diabetic epidemic was a direct result of the food. Processed meals are sold as timesaving and the less educated buy into it and unfortunately trust the food is healthy.
Great video! I have given up 100% of ultra processed food for a couple of weeks now. It's been pretty easy so far. Also bread, pasta, rice and alcohol to get my insulin resistance under control. I feel much better my weight is down, pain and inflammation definitely reduced.
I was having severe anxiety for years , and though it wasn't caused by processed food , the first thing my councilor recommended was to cut them all out so I did. Within a DAY my blood pressure dropped and my anxiety lessened . Now I pretty much dont eat any processed food but when I do it's like taking speed. Same with any dyes or colorants . It's a profound effect . But if that's your baseline , you don't really know how much it effects you. Now my rule of thumb is "Make sure your ingredients only have one ingredient ." It seems simple, but lets say you are making a nice healthy salad with maybe some steak so you reach for that seasoning mix and some salad dressing. Well look at those labels . Do you recognize everything on it ? I'll be honest , if i crave something , I have it . life is too short . But it's rare because I honestly don't like how it feels . I have also learned how to make healthy versions of comfort foods I grew up with like Hamburger Helper and pot pies because sometime you just want to power down 2 plates of something heavy and binge watch Lord of The Rings and you can do that without taking in a bunch of chemicals .
Apart from all the processed " poisonous food " people eat far too much - I have one main meal and a small snack in the evening - and @ 82 years of age take no medication - stop eating - but eat well whatever small amount you need - NOT what you want
I came to USA from Europe (where the food is also ultra-processed, but it's somewhat regulated by EU) and I really enjoyed the super-tasty american food, totally unregulated by FDA or any government agency. In a year I gained 20 pounds (with same amount of exercise), started getting headaches, anxiety and sleep disturbances. In short, I felt like sh*t and became pre-diabetic as well (sodas) had elevated triglycerides and cholesterol (fried fast food). 4 years later, when I looked at not so old picture from 2019, where I looked so healthy, I said ENOUGH! and I started cooking from scratch, processing food minimally and being sensible about what ingredients I use. For about two weeks, my body went through weird phase when I was feeling kind of sick but then I started feeling so much better with better sleep and more energy, the anxiety was gone and my lab tests improved. American diet of UPF is slow death and this is condoned by the government (or worse, approved to please pharma). Food is not made to nourish you, food is made for sustainable profit. Please stop eating UPF it will poison your body. And with correct develompent in medicine, your life will be a prolonged misery.
Love this interview - all very valuable information! I stopped all processed food 3 months ago because I was desperate to take control of my health. Painful and crippling Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are less each week to the point I am off all RA meds which causes cancer and other deadly diseases. I’ve lost a lot of fat/weight and feel better than I have in years! I’m learning more every day and Just found this channel and interview- what a lot of powerful knowledge to help people improve their health!
Check out medical medium books and podcast interviews. There's many people healing their RA symptoms. Cutting grains, gluten, and dairy helps immensely with inflammation pain. Congrats to healing.

This is a great discussion! I personally will draw the line at ultra processed foods when i see too many numbers and words i cant pronounce in the ingredient list. and of course, the sugar and carb content is highly taken into consideration.
Companies are taking the taste out of fruits and vegetables to make it tastless, but then taking that fruit/vegetable flavor to put into processed junk food. We need to take back our taste and health, by growing our own food to be selfreliant and selfsufficient.
Thank you for bringing up the calorie argument. I've seen way too many 99.99% of all "influencers" talking about calories in/out and I argue the same point. Before the 1950s no one knew about calories. Yet we didn't have insane obesity that we have now.

I am currently on Whole30 for the month of January 2024. It is going well so far. It eliminates processed food, caffeine, added sugar, bread, rice, pasta, beans, and bread. I can have fruit, which I am happy about. Doing this forces you to try new recipes and make most (if not all) of your food at home. My skin has already started clearing up.
I grew up in a family that cooked every single day except once a month we went out for pizza and that was a treat. Now grown our family still cooks everyday and the whole lot of us go home on Sunday to eat at moms. Even so we were eating unhealthy and didn't know it because of manufactured oils , margarine and breakfast cereal and school lunches in public schools.
I've said it for years now that the "food" available in 7-11s or gas stations is garbage, the only thing close to healthy is a beat up banana or bruised apple.. the rest is sugar & salt.. 🤢 Our bodies need LIVE food like fruits and vegetables not Cheetos, Fritos, tostitos, Doritos or pop tarts .. I just recently started a job in a fast food place and I get free meals, it's been two months now of me eating fries, nuggets and other fried foods and I feel like crap today.. I saw a doctor report how the oils used in restaurants are more deadly than sugar and can take YEARS to leave our system, scary stuff 😬
Thanks guys. This topic cannot be become a dead horse and must exist for change to happen. I personally, seek it out. Its now abundantly clear with guidance on this topic of what we should and should not eat, and how we should eat. But I find that a lot of people are still very clueless. Sadly, no amount of educational material will help the majority of the population because its focused on distraction as entertainment. The mob at large just doesn't have curiosity or investigative skills for self-improvement. We have to do our part and educate our friends and family. Lead by example and answer when asked, but never push or harp your position and we'll see progress. It will take years for our cultures to change, just like it took years to get where we are. I've lost a step mother and a mother-in law much too young due to diet and health choices. I see it happening now in my maternal mother and there's nothing I can really do at this point, other than lead by example and express that its never too late. Ultimately its their choice on how they want to live.
I'm watching my mother slowly pass as well due to hypoglycemia. She literally believes that she NEEDS sugar to survive. I asked her one day if she ever went without sugar before and she told me a horror story which with every symptom she told me was easily interpreted into her going into withdrawl. Especially when her story ended with her going to the hospital and them giving her a SUGAR PILL to subside her suffering..😞

I watched a documentary about economic upward mobility of Vietnamese. And the irony is that ultra processed food is so expensive in Vietnam that it is now a status symbol. Therefore the upper middle-class Who can afford fast food and middle aisle Food are overweight, and the lower middle-class people who can only afford rice and noodle dishes, vegetables and produce are thin

These billionaire conglomerates that own Kraft and Nestle, etc,etc have no conscious. Their respective families (rich spoiled children) don't touch their products but they are ultra rich from selling garbage that they know are awful.
After being diagnosed coeliac, and already knowing I was lactose intolerant the good thing is I've had to start making everything from scratch because I never realised gluten was in so many things (I've even had to find a gluten free soy sauce!) I tell you, homemade black bean burgers are so much better than store, teff bread with seeds comes out so much nicer than wheat, and homemade hummus, homemade crackers!! But even my meals are better; miso soup with kombu/shiitake base, red lentil curry, misir wat, dal with teff naan, Ital stew, laksa with wakame. Lots of delicious Indian, Asian, African, Jamaican, and South American recipes. I actually have energy and concentration now, I feel 100% better already and I'm only 1 month into gluten free, with real whole foods. My sodium levels are much lower now too which is a huge plus. It's amazing what you can do with coconut milk, I've found out.
This was a very eye-opening experience. I have recently found better results tracking my calorie intake lately, however it's very difficult to stay on track and keep these Ultra-processed foods in your diet. I feel best sticking with meat, veggies & fruit
Best move is to get rid of all U-P foods in your diet, no exceptions. It's worked wonders for me in terms of physical appearance, energy level, confidence, even financially, and more.
11.18.2023 I watched a program recently about how people are being deceived about calories. Now, I don't know about boxed products, b/c they did experients on fast food ingredients. Much more caloric than advertized!! 😳
Hi Shawn Stevenson! What I'm going to write is not to criticize what you are talking or the information given- I'm 100% agree with you. I would like to mention a point; You've mentioned your 12 year old son preparing breakfast, cooking eggs... You're so proud of your son (rightfully as a father) actually he could his own breakfast as if he' had graduated from university at the age of 12. It is the 1.World problem which spread to developing and 3.World countries as well. I come from a developing country, financially a poor family. My parents were working and I was cooking at the age of 14 ( of course it is not right but in some of my friend's case 10 year olds) for my sister after school; there were always meat, vegetable, eggs, cheese, yogurt (homemade by me), pasta and bought the bread with the meal fresh (not consuming much bread anymore, and only sourdough or rye homemade) Sometimes went into garden to pick Beetroot, Radish, Lettuce for our salad (have always salad with every meal + yogurt as tradition) Had never bought a can of coke or any soft drink until 21. Pringles, Smiths Crisps/Chips, packaged ultra processed food was expensive , couldn't afford- it was for middle class and rich. As I grew up this way, I can't eat ultra processed food doesn't matter how much mind and taste altering lab made chemicals ultrafoodprocess food manufacturer add, ultraproccessed food taste all the same same to me " a cardboard with synthetic chemical added that taste awful"" Children cooking food for younger siblings were when I's child. Now, working mothers from financially poor house hold do a big all junk, unltraprocessed food wrapped nicely shopping from supermarkets doesn't need cut, clean, cook. Or if the potato Crisps etc. finished, there is always Mac. Donald's, KFC etc. Now, children are becoming no different then the USA kids. Forget about a 12 year old cooking, most don't even know how a real potato or garlic look and taste like.
Even though foods are Minimal in processing. These grains are coming from fields that have been sprayed with pesticides and they are genetically altered before they get to the processing plants
This video is incredible. It’s so frustrating because the health of American’s could be solved with common sense and an effort to put more thought into what is thrown into our mouth’s everyday. It baffles me how much people take eating for granted. Eating is not a pleasure task. It has a purpose. It is literally substance that you are building your body with on a cellular level and larger. People are so picky about things like air quality, products they put on there skin, etc…how about that substance you are literally throwing into your body to process using your own natural body?! Think twice about what that is!!! Don’t just satisfy your tastebuds!!! It’s literally sad :( and yet it’s pretty much no one’s fault. It’s just normal now. Time to change and be smart about food. Soo many people with day-to-day health issues, small or large, could literally solve their issues by paying attention to what they eat and put more thought into it. I want that for everyone so badly. I know it’s hard, but it’s the answer. Not medication or supplementation. Whole, natural food. Prepared correctly, consumed at the correct time, in the correct combination, and in the correct amounts. That’s it.

The macroculture might not be well, but focusing on creating a healthy microculture is key. This is extremely helpful. Not just for food and exercise related problems, also for psychological, behavioral, political, cultural etc issues in our society. You can control your own emotions and behavior and not get pulled into any drama. 'Be the change you want to see in the world' for an individual is great, but expanding this to a small circle of people is better.

Decades ago, when I lived in Tampa Bay, Florida, the food pantry gave out mostly sugary products. Food stamps was given out minimally. I literally couldn't afford to buy healthy food at the grocery store. I now live in New York State, and I can afford to live on a plant-based diet. I was 279 lbs. and now I am 228 lbs. I work out at the gym twice a week.
Here's a tip: When you go shopping, all the food you SHOULD be eating is along the outer walls of the store. All of the ultra-processed shit is in the isles. Literally every grocery store is designed this way....
Have you noticed that fake food is finding its way to the perimeter of the grocery store? As well, the produce is not real anymore... even when trying to grow/raise your own food that the seeds are being affected and the dirt contaminated? I feel for my great grandchildren.

In my case I have found out that I SIMPLY CANNOT TOUCH ultra processed foods! The 20/80 or 10/90 did not work and WILL NOT work for me. Period! Thanks for the video!
Good interview. I appreciated his distinction between eating processed and ultra-processed foods. I'm eating a lot healthier now than I did 5 years ago, but it's hard staying away from processed foods, like bacon or sausage, and even junk food on occasion. I just try to keep the ingredients in my processed foods to a minimum. I know it's not ideal, but it's better than most of what's out there. I also am doing light weight lifting exercises about 4 days a week. I'm feeling better at 69 than I felt at 52.
Excellent talk. I try to teach this to my patients every day. And very important thing about getting the whole family on board. I will often do a house call and try to talk to the entire family about making a comprehensive lifestyle change not just a dietary change, because it takes a village and a whole mindset
I had a stomach problem and went to hospital, after sitting there a good amount of time they offered me snack and drink from vending machine. Its complete disconnection. Or why at schools they have all that junk available for kids? People in US is set to get health issues from childhood. I don’t see any protests going on about people getting killed by modern food.
Exactly. I was in the hospital a couple of times for a couple of weeks, and they would bring the meals which would be full of carbohydrates, and perhaps a sugary beverage, and dessert. And then 2 hours later test blood sugar, and then give me insulin I wasn't diabetic, or insulin resistant because I had been 2 years on a keto diet. Yet here they were administering insulin twice a day. And if I had been out living my life, I wouldn't have needed insulin twice a day. And I had to ask myself why would they do that? Then I realized that it's probably not just me, they probably administer it to every single person that is bed bound in the hospital Imagine the profit on that. Not just for the hospital, but the pharmaceutical companies. And that's why our medical system is broken.

Indeed. On carnivore, I lose body fat and gain muscle mass with about a 15% caloric surplus, losing overall weight at about a pound or 2 a week💪💪 On carbs, I lost nothing in a 50% deficit🤷♂️

I worked at Whole Foods Market in my 20s...and one of my regular customers was a MUCH older gentleman...he ALWAYS had so much energy and was a Senior....I asked him how old he was...he made me guess...I guessed 20yrs younger than his REAL AGE...and he shared his secret was staying active with exercise and eating healthy...he says he rather spend Money on good food....than spend money on good Doctors when he's too sick because he ate cheaply and poorly. Seeing it FIRST hand BLEW ME AWAY!!
Been eating clean for a long time. And now my body revolts if I eat anything like the toxic things being discussed here. All I can say, is get clean, and stay clean.
I often think the vegans and the carnivors are both arguing against processed food, and whatever benefits each side sees can be attributed to the fact that they gave up processed food. Just a thought.
It's pretty much axiomatic; they're both fighting for the same cause... Vegans mostly do it for animal anti-cruelty reasons. Raw vegans don't eat cooked foods in general.
That is true, both sides say get ride of processed junk food. But vegans inherently lack nutrients that carnivores get from meat. Eating meat is superior to not (if your personal conditions allow for it) because meat contains all of the essential amino acids. Plants also often contain substances that (by design) reduce absorption of various nutrients, thus making them less nutritious than a steak. No, my digestion is so much better on a carnivore-ish diet. No more constipation or farts or diarrhea. My brain fog is lifting. My skin looks clearer at 41 than at 21.
I agree, I'm doing Carnivore, and I've never felt better, but I think it's as much about what I'm cutting out as what I'm putting in. I do notice also when Eat just meat I get more regular. Poop once a day, with a regular crap diet It was usually every other day
I really needed this video. I generally eat a clean keto diet. Past few months ive been snacking on "Quest" products because I like the taste of most of their stuff. I've felt noticeably slower and just overall "bad". Gonna cut this stuff out of my diet and try to find a better way to scratch the junk food itch.
Keep the patient alive for long enough to sell them pills and eventually insulin (which exacerbates the underlying root cause of diabetes which is viseral fat & insulin resistance) over a few decades. It's horrible. For profit healthcare is a crime against Humanity.
Yes, I don’t doubt that hypothesis for a second. So many drugs are pumped out to people for various issues that 1) don’t truly fix the underlying issue, just a symptom and 2) cause more issues than the patient had to begin with (sometimes worse than the OG issue)
i eat nothing but fruits, vegetables and fish. started eating that way 6 months ago and i’ve never felt more alive. my depression has subsided, i’ll always have it but i feel fucking incredible. real food is medicine friends

Eat like shit and feel and look like shit. A lot of folks don't realize people can look relatively healthy on the outside (lack of subcutaneous fat) but be fat on the inside aka viseral fat that lines the organs in the abdominal region (liver, pancreas, kidneys etc.). Viseral fat is far more dangerous and leads to your organs not operating efficiently or severe diseases...its an invisible killer...
I have not had processed food for ten months. Five days ago I decided to have a Take out pizza and right away I reacted. I felt bloated and had gas and I got headache etc. I use live on junk food and now I can’t seem to touch it.
Halfway through but I love this. I just turned in a paper that I wrote for my English 111 class on the subject of obesity. Sickening how this has happened in recent years.
I'm extremely lucky in how I ate when I grew up because the majority of mt family have bizzare reactions to things like artificial colors and flavors, which feature heavily in most processed food. This led me to building good habits around food early, with reinforcement from the reactions I'd have. I actually have issues with UNDER eating, but that's because I don't physically feel hunger.
@Kiana Docherty has a very interesting video on how Nauru became one of the unhealthiest contries in the world due to changes in the way they eat. Basically they stopped producing whole foods and highly processed foods became more easily available than fresh produce. It is quite interesting and in some ways frightening
Religion is "ultra processed foods" of the mind imo. People should put in the work and build their own belief/value system instead of adopting a belief system off the shelf like a rube from top-down authority figures. So Much death has come from religion. We can replace it with more modern beliefs about life, the universe, meaning etc.

Nothing in science or medicine or any other field disproves the idea of a deity. Religious groups are also most often the ones footing the bill and doing the work to help people out of poverty, save lives, create better outcomes in society. Granted, “religion” is not a one-size-fits-all category you can just lump everything together in. Islam, for example, inspires many terrorist groups in the world. In that way, yes, religion is somewhat to blame for worldly issues. But ultimately it’s the humans who participate in this that or the other who are to blame. At least people who subscribe to a religion have some kind of moral code, as opposed to atheists who have no basis whatsoever for any moral code. They just make up whatever feels good to them and boosts their egos, but truly nothing is wrong or bad or evil if there is no god or higher power or ultimate source of good. Atheists should never be mad if someone steals their car or kills their family member or anything, because they can’t point to why it’s wrong.

I don't need the threat of eternal damnation in a perceived after-life to prevent myself from carrying out harmful behavior and actions towards others or myself. Religion is a tool people use to control others, period. Submit and obey. Don't ask questions. God loves you, he made you, but if you're bad you're going to burn in Hell for all eternity! But he loves you! If God made us...even those we perceive as dangerous and harmful to others...why should they suffer in Hell? God made us...he should be to blame for the imperfect individuals (such as serial killers or priests that rape children). Organized religion is FILLED with hypocrisy and negative reinforcement.
