There’s Power in Your Words .
I believe that Proverbs 18:21 saved my life. If I had not stumbled upon that Biblical proof back in 2015. Cancer would likely have finished me. Proverbs 18:21… death and life are in the power of the tongue. And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”. Basically,. You and I are the product of what we have said about ourselves and what others have said about us. Everything, all of the good and all of the bad in your life has something to do with words, words have been spoken over your life. You have spoken words and all of these words have power and they contain the potential to either do harm or to do good. Every war that ever started began with words. Every divorce began with words. Every broken relationship began with words and many sicknesses begin with words. Many times we have spoken ourselves sick. We have prophesied.
Many of us are prophesying without knowing that’s what we’re doing, but the Bible is clear on this. We are preparing our future with our words, creating our future.
Have you ever heard yourself saying, I can't do this, I'm not good enough for this. I don't have the right education. Oh it’s cold and flu season…I’m sure I’ll get it this time. I know my kids are going to get sick. They're laying people off at work. I’m sure I'll be the first one to go.
All of these words are prophetic. They contain the power of life and death, death, and life. We are either cursing ourselves or we’re blessing ourselves by what comes out of our mouth. And so when we translate that into health issues, many of our health issues have to do with things we have spoken.
The first thing I used to do when I had a pain or a sickness is take possession of it. When I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, I became a cancer patient. I spoke like a cancer patient. I worried like a cancer patient. I didn’t even give myself a chance. Without realizing what I was doing, my words were sealing my fate. I took possession. It’s something many of us do. This is my pain, my arthritis, my cancer. This is my future.
And….and this is important…. without realizing what's going on, we end up creating an environment where we are cooperating with the work of the devil, because he needs our words. And so when we give him our words, we've released him to do what he wants to do.
But here’s the great news. And it helped save my life.
If we can turn our words around then we can change our future. We can change our destiny. You and I can proclaim positive things over our life.
Thoughts may come into your head. But don’t let them come out of your mouth. A simple thought can become a negative thought. A doubt can come. You can have a little conflict in your head.
This used to happen to me at 2 in the morning. “Oh I can tell the cancer is growing. I’m doomed. I don’t have much time.” But I was crushing my spirit. I was speaking death over myself.
The book of James 3 says this. “The tongue is a small member. How great a forest is set on ablaze by such a small fire” So the tongue, that little member, can defile our entire body.
And what about the words others speak over us. Someone says something ugly to you …you begin to meditate on it. It wakes you up at night. The next day you tell someone else about it. Now you've given power to it. Do you know what they said to me? What do you think? Now you're asking them to respond with words. So now you've both got words going back and forth.
. When we speak, we are authorizing the spiritual world to go to work. Either we’re authorizing the forces of good of God, of angels, or we’re authorizing the demonic powers. But something is going to take place. As we speak, as we criticize… As we gossip, as we have bitterness in our heart, as we speak against someone, or as we allow their negative words to get into our own heart.
Trauma can be from words. A divorce is trauma. A fight between spouses is trauma. An issue with our children is trauma. These things affect us. They break down our peace, our joy.
The bottom line on this is simple, but if you ever need to be reminded, there’s that little scripture waiting for you in the bible that you and I both should consider before we open our mouths to speak. Proverbs 18:21.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue. And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” It has the power to change your life. And the lives of those around you.
