I actually contend the wand breaking only actually happens and matters for students who get expelled, so that they cannot illegally perform magic(as part of the statute of secrecy). This wouldn't matter for graduates who don't necessarily need the appropriate wand since they have the appropriate knowledge, so they don't really bother.

It's an interesting one, also think about the wizards who understand wandlore you'd think voldemorts yew and pheonix wand would be heavily desired as an insanely powerful wand particularly with the dark arts that goes without saying 🤷‍♂️ like obv those who know desire the elder wand but voldemorts wand.. hmm lol fun fact my wand in hogwarts legacy is actually yew and pheonix feather 😂 and yes it has the pale bone design as well... I'm a dark wizard what can I say dark arts fancy me and i fancy them 😅😅

I'd like them to redo the whole series, with Harry as a Slytherin, Hermione as a ravenclaw and Ron as a Hufflepuff. Make Neville more integral as the main Gryffindor character, give Draco the redemption arc he deserves, give Hermione and Luna a deeper friendship and make the pairings Ron+Luna Harry+Hermione and Neville+Ginny as they all balance each other better. Ron is grounded while Luna is whimsical, Harry is lax while Hermione is active though they're both geniuses, and Neville is soft spoken and gentle while Ginny is brash and fiery it just feels like a better match up than what we got

Bingo.... that's what I thought.... still do. He didn't need Lupin's wand to transform back to a rat. That's just a movie thing. In the books he uses it to stun Ron to get out of the shackles, ans stun Crookshanks. Also.... just gonna say, Hagrid would have given the wand to Dumbledore....so..... sorry, one of the few theories I can't get behind.

@@lxena8033in the movie he wasnt using the wand to transform he was going to use lupins wand to attack or kill the gang. Harry uses Expelliarmus and he transforms after he’s been disarmed

My own theory for why Hagrid's and only Hagrid's want (but not the Death Eater's) was snapped was it was an aspect of expulsion specifically. In my mind, every *fully trained* witch and wizard has an irrevocable right to a wand. So where does the leave Hagrid? He wasn't fully trained. Magical schools not only exist to integrate young witches and wizard into the wizarding world but ensure that their magic is not a danger to themselves or others. Hagrid never received this full training and the snapping of his wand is a precaution against the potential danger of that, not an outright punishment of crime (it effectively is but it's not the purpose of such.)

I thought the same and since Fantastic Beast even more. If there is one wand you want to snap in half, it would have been Grindlewald's. I know it was in America, but when the representative of the English Ministry got the wand, he also didn't destroy it. Maybe only the Minister of Magic may do it, but I still think MACUSA would have also done it then

This is all plausible but also _extraordinarily_ complicated. I think a much likelier chain of events would be: - Voldemort kills the Potters - Sirius arrives, but in his rage he fails to notice the wand (or doesn't care) and goes straight for Peter - Peter fakes his death, escapes and arrives at the Potter house, either to see if it's true that Voldemort failed or with the express purpose of getting the wand - He gets the wand and goes into hiding - At some point he moves in with the Weasleys, leaving the wand stashed somewhere - All the events until and including Prisoner of Azkaban occur - Peter retrieves the wand from its hiding place and goes looking for Voldemort I find this much simpler and less dependant on a bunch of weird decisions and odd coincidences.

My personal head Cannon is that the ministry of magic collected the wand as evidence after the Potter murder, but Augustus Rookwood of the Department of mysteries swapped out Voldemort's wand for a fake one and then put the real one in whatever meeting place the Death Eaters had. Fast forward 12 years and none of the other Death Eaters are going to the meeting place anymore, so Peter Pettigrew can just Waltz right in.

Given Occam's Razor (the simplest theory is usually correct), consider this instead: Pettigrew was skulking outside the Potter residence when Voldy went in. Why? Because he was about to be either honored beyond belief by Voldy, or something would go awry and he would be in terrible danger (from the Order, and Sirius in particular). He was the Secret Keeper and could therefore witness, in this case from outside, what would happen (like a rat). He sees the whole event go down and is thus the first one on the scene. He finds Voldy's cloak and wand, encounters his two dead "friends," and Harry, crying in his crib after this horrific ordeal. What does he do, rat that he is? He abandons baby Harry and his friends' corpses and flees with the only thing of value: the wand. He does not yet know what happened to Voldy, he has his own wand, and further he has not *won* this wand. So, he hides V's wand, buries it perhaps. Then he taunts Sirius into a duel (using his own wand) for two reasons: fake his own death (they find nothing but his finger, and his wand! which helps prove his death), and it gets Sirius into Azkaban so that Wormtail is now a bit safer in the world. He won't need his own wand as he is living as a rat. How did he turn himself into a rat without a wand? Under extreme circumstances, one can produce magic without a wand. Or, perhaps he kept his wand and it was lost in another way during the past 13 years of being in hiding. From there, the rest is history, and everything falls into place. Once Sirius and Remus discover him, he transforms, scurries away, retrieves Voldy's wand from hiding and goes searching for him-knowing that Voldy will take him back because he can prove that he is a "trusted servant" by having kept his wand as well as coming to find him.

I think peter needed a wand to turn back into a rat was because they forced him out of his rat form using magic. He probably had some sort of spell on him that disabled transformations that he had to remove before transformating.

Or maybe he needed it because he was never as good as Sirius or James with the transformation, Peter wouldn't have managed the initial transformation without the help of James and Sirius. And additionally he hasn't used any magic let alone the transformation for thirtween years. Maybe he was just a bit rusty and he used the wand to make sure it worked.

Possibly Sirius got a new wand for order of phoenix by Dumbledoor's request to Olivander, it's quite possible that since he gave some of Fox's feathers they're on good terms, or even just used a family members old wand if it was still in the house.

Love your theory videos! Have you ever thought about making a video on how the series has a chiastic structure, meaning the books are mirrored to each other, hinged around book 4. So 1 and 7 are mirrored, 2 and 6 are mirrored, 3 and 5 are mirrored. Those pairs all have similar themes and patterns, to an uncanny degree. Book 4 is the centrepiece and has parallels to 1 and 7 (for example those three books are the only books where Ollivander and Wandlore feature and the only books where dragons feature (baby dragon Norbert in book 1, mother dragon Hungarian Horntail with her egg in book 4 and elderly dragon Ukrainian Ironbelly in book 7 in Gringotts). It's really fascinating!

If you were wondereing the line "pocketed it" appears in all 7 books as a bit of an inside joke/ prank on Stephen Fry. He had a lot of trouble saying it as he narrated the philosophers stone audiobook. He therefore called the auther and asked if it was alright if they changed it to "put it in his pocket" she responded no, and then made sure to put it in every single book from then on, just to annoy him

As for how people get there wands back - my headcanon has always been that the wand becomes the property of the owners family (we do see similar things on the other end with long bottoms and even Ron used his older brother’s) - so these prominent families probably appeal to the ministry to retrieve the wand. The assumption is the death eaters are never getting out of Azkaban, therefore it really isn’t too big of a problem, almost becomes a memento. Hargrids wand was snapped due to being expelled while underage (before his OWLs).

The first people to the Potters residence was Hagrid and Sirius, who was there to collect Harry and could have easily not seen a wand buried under rubble. His mission was to get Harry out before anyone else came snooping, he wasn't going to hang around looking. As for Sirius, it's never really explained whether he goes into the house, from understanding he goes to see the house to check on the Potters after not finding Pettigrew where he should have been. Upon seeing the house he almost immediately goes to seek out Pettigrew. While it might be easy to assume the wand would have been immediately recovered there were more pressing matters at hand and no evidence that anyone spent significant time at the potters residence for at least the first day or two. It is entirely possible that Pettigrew grabbed the wand either before or after he was confronted by Sirius and hid the wand away somewhere. This theory you present honestly requires more assumptions and chance than the simpler alternative of "They didn't really look because everything was in a rush right after it happened."

Surely when Ollivander was making that wand he must have had an inkling that this wand is not going to go to someone who is good. A giant chicken bone with a white stick jammed in it does not inspire confidence. Maybe that's why with the second one he went back to a nice simple wood, he realised that at least your not garentueeing the owner will be a we irdo.

One has to wonder if he suspects the personalities that the wands might look for. I've done some deep research on this stuff for a story of mine, and for at least one of my characters, it seems like Ollivander should be able to predict that that person is NOT okay from the precise wand they get. Then there's the idea of wands shorter than I think 8 inches, that seem to gravitate towards "a witch or wizard in whose personality something is lacking", which basically screams messed-up in some way. Umbridge for example. That or they're smol. I guess that's the out. They could just be tiny and so need a smaller wand, so he can't assume they'll all go to bad people. That'd be...size....ist, or something.

I am not really on board with the idea of Petunia wanting her sister back. They had a strained relationship from the moment Lilly found out she was a witch. She had been yealous at her from this moment and resented her for being special while she was not.

@@emily79519 I'd counter by saying that I think Petunia's biggest regret is not being close with her sister and missing the time she could have had with her when she was alive. I think that's another part of the reason that she truly hates magic is that without magic she and Lily would still be friends and Lily would still be alive. She hates magic because it took her sister from her, both initially, and then again when she was killed. I actually think that Petunia wishes more than anything in the world that Lily had survived, maybe even instead of Harry. I think she absolutely does wish she could have her little sister back. It's the entire reason she even so much as does take care of Harry. Just like Snape, she wouldn't if it weren't for her love of Lily.

Headcanon alert - the death eaters, being from long magical lineages, have generations of wands stashed at their homes. Most probably did have their wands repo'd but they were able to source another one with a good "feel" after they broke out of jail.

My head canon is that Pettigrew followed Voldemort the night he killed the Potters and was the first to enter the house after Voldy got dematerialized. He hid the wand in the ruins of the Potters' house, what better place than where its master lost the battle, (the place became a shrine after all) collected it after he escaped Sirius and Lupin in Prisoner and then set out to find Voldemort.

My personal head canon as to why voldemorts wand looks so sinister is because I think like when Voldemort creates his horcruxs it altered his appearance it seems reasonable then that creating a horcrux would also alter the appearance of that wizards wand

My theory was that Dumbledore knew the wand would be valuable and asked Hagrid to retrieve it. I agree it was likely in the hut because anywhere within the Hogwarts Castle would have been too risky.

VIdeo idea: What if at the end of the third book, Sirius or Lupin literally just stunned/petrified Peter before leaving the shrieking shack, preventing him from ever escaping? Day 5 of asking can you do a video where the Potters survived? The scenario I'll make up is when Voldemort breaks in, Instead of killing James, he tortures and used the paralyzing spell on him and makes him pass out and plans to finish him off later when Harry and Lily are dead because as Dumbledore said, he likes waiting for his enemies to beg for death before killing them. Upstairs with Lily, the same thing basically happens except Lily misses the curse and falls on the ground. Harry still gets the love protection and Voldemort still loses his body because Lily was prepared to sacrifice herself for Harry. We saw this in Deathly Hallows when Harry's protection from sacrificing himself stopped Voldemort from torturing Neville when he stood up, Even though Harry didn't die.

I like the theory! It would also explain how Dumbledore knew Voldemort was gone-Hagrid told him he found the wand. Dumbledore wouldn’t want one of Fawkes’ wands to be destroyed in case the twin cores came into play.

Just noticed how many different "P" Alliterations were used. You guys have done "What If's" on a couple things now. What if Harry was sorted into Slytherin " and "What if James Kept The Invisibility Cloak ". I have a suggestion for a potential good one. "What If Regulus Black Lived?" That could have some big changes to characters. Like Regulus and Sirius being better and closer. Regulus potentially being a secret spy for Sirius.

I’d only tweak one thing with the theory; I think Dumbledore, in this scenario you’ve presented, would have asked/told Hagrid to hold on to the wand if he happened to come across it while picking up Harry, rather than Hagrid haven simply discovered it while he was at the Potters’.

Hagrid could have gotten so miserably drunk from the Potters death immediately after delivering Harry to Privet drive that he completely forgot he picked up Voldemorts wand and it had gotten lost amongst the junk in his cabin. So maybe no one knew about it being in the cabin,even Hagrid

This doesn’t change the theory at hand, but I always thought the snapping of hagrids wand had to do with him still being a student and it being a “you can no longer learn/finish your learning” punishment, rather than something that would happen to any criminal wizard
