Mau Mau veteran, Wang'ombe wa Mathenge, who joined Mau Mau fighters when he was a very young boy, tells of his experience in the war. He was sent on special missions by Dedan Kimathi, whose purposes was to grab cattle and other livestock from white farms with a view to chasing settlers from the farms. This was a guerrilla war after all. The special missions were also meant to secure food for the fighters. Many are times when fighters fell to colonial bullets. Wang'ombe reveals how they used to bury fallen fighters in a simple gesture reminiscent of both Christian funerary rites and the traditional Kikuyu burial in the forest. He says, as his parting shot, that those who love this country must always ask themselves how this country became independent. #kenya #africa #africanhistory #africanindependence #maumau #kikuyugospel #kikuyumedia #kimathi
