Literally did this now and omgosh!! Such an easy fix :) I noticed my sink was smelling foul this past week. So I just figured oh I’ll just do some dishes and it’ll clean itself out. But no, I removed the rubber drain stopper and there was all kinds of build up and grime on the underside. And the garbage disposal was worse. I performed two rounds of this little magic trick and the odor was completely gone :) Thank you thank you for this super easy and fun trick! Going to try it in the laundry now, heard it does wonders on whites!

You also have to wipe the inside of the rubber flap with soapy rag or paper towels. Clean the flap once a week, it gets nasty fast.

I don’t have a disposal but I have used vinegar and baking soda in a slow draining ( causing sink to back-up) dishwasher. It cleaned and deodorized and cleared the drain.

Always start with nothing but boiling water first. Often that alone will clear up any fatty deposits in the sink which seems to block any chemical from getting through, and best of all, it causes no harm whatsoever to the environment. That often works so well you won't need any other treatment unless drain is plugged with hair instead of fat or some other dissolvable substance. Stores also sell long wires now that are like rough bristled brushes and they simply pull out the hair, so again, no chemicals needed. Mine is plugged once again after several years so will try this method again tomorrow.

Mine was similar, run hot water and disposal to clean out any bits. Then I drop down a cup or so of baking soda, run the disposal dry just for a few seconds to fling it around, and let it for about 10 minutes. Then I drop in a lemon cut in half and run it with lower water flow. Lemon juice makes it foam just like vinegar, it is released slower so the bubbling action takes longer, and it leaves the sink with a nice lemon smell. After a few moments of it chopping up the lemon, start the water on full and let it just run clean.

I did it the second way a while ago and it caused the plastic pipes under sink to dislodge and I didn't know it until I used the sink a few times and water started coming out of the cabinets under sink. Never doing that again. Will try this method. Thanks.

Check to make sure you have a p trap instead of an s trap. S traps can sometimes leak sewer gases in, and have since been outdated and are no longer up to code.

When I wash the dishes I wash the dirty dishes in the sink with the garbage disposal. When I get finished washing the dishes and drain the hot soapy water I turn on the garbage disposal so that it churns up the hot soapy water all around the inside of the garbage disposal. That way any food particles and films inside the garbage disposal and its drain tube get stirred up and forcibly ejected down the drain by the running disposal's centrifugal action. It also has the benefit of causing the hot soapy water to flow rapidly through the P-trap and carrying any heavy particles stuck in it out and into the main sewer line. I then follow up with draining the hot water out of the rinse sink to flush the soapy water out of the P-trap.

Every sink and what people put down the disposal are not the same. Your experience is merely one in hundreds of millions.
@oldtimefarmboy617
@oldtimefarmboy617 4 месяца назад
@@VacLab 'Every sink and what people put down the disposal are not the same." You are correct. And what causes the smell depends on what is allowed to stay in the drain and the resultant growth of odorous bacteria and slime and other organic organisms. If you always make certain that none of that stuff stays in your drains then nothing will grow in the drains and nothing will smell in your drains. Simple cause and effect. The simple solution is to eliminate the cause. But I guess washing dishes by hand is just too much work for a lot of people.

the sink featured here is removeable, mine is permanent so I need to brush all the gross stuff from and the underside of the rubbery flapper. You can use a tooth brush or small brush , dip the brush to vinegar liquid or soap first than brush them clean then follow by baking soda and vinegar like in this video to finish.

It always amuses me when people mix vinegar and baking soda as a cleaner. Sure in this situation the baking soda is the cleaner and the chemical reaction may serve to help the baking soda contact more surfaces. Other than that their is no advantage to mixing them. Separately both items clean well. Together they are just water. Sure some people may think mixing them is an advantage However, in reality they are simply cleaning with which ever one is mixed at a higher concentration usually the baking soda. And would obtain the same results with baking soda and water.
@VacLab
@VacLab 6 лет назад
rmkscrambler the point of mixing the two is to get a much more active reaction. In this case the agitation created will dislodge stubborn food particles in impossible to reach areas. Highly recommended by a wide margin all across the "interwebs". And it's fun to watch. 😎 We've tried vinegar by itself and it just drains away immediately. A waste. We've tried baking soda both by itself (standing) and also flushing with water. Mediocre results. Combining the two as we did here ended up with dramatically better results. As always, your results may vary.
@rmkscrambler
@rmkscrambler 6 лет назад
Agreed, The mechanical action created by the reaction is definitely an advantage hear. I apologize if I came across as negative. I guess its the interweb's wide margin of inappropriate uses for this mixture that begins to aggravate me. I do enjoy your vacuum test.
