Dr. Mahboubian discusses a patient who experienced complications during the lengthening process, approximately 10 weeks following his procedure. Upon examining the patient's x-ray's, excess bone was forming on one leg which prevented the nail from lengthening. If this starts to occur Dr. M advises patients to reduce their calcium / Vitamin D intake. However, in more serious cases, like the example shown, Dr. Mahboubian re-cuts the bone to allow lengthening to continue and then lengthens that side's nail at faster rate to accommodate for the excess bone.
