How to Install Flagstone paths in grass, pea gravel and mulch. We've been installing flagstone in our garden for over 20 years as DIYers (not professional landscapers). Visit our blog here! www.planttasticcooking.com/
I love the way how you explain. You are a great teacher!! The fact that you explain first what you are going to do is marvelous!!! Thank you you are great!!❤❤❤
Love your garden. Thank you for showing me that it is possible for me to do a project like this while saving money...I know the professionals are probably blowing smoke out of their ears and I know a professional would do it differently...but that cost of labor can be expensive. This shows me that following simple rules and my own sweat and tears can get the job done...and how much more rewarding 🎉
I love the way you laid them out for the outline, brilliant idea. You can really get "a feel" for them to, and make changes before digging. I have not done any research, but I think I might have tried sand under each stone to leveling. Still a great video! You created exactly what I have envisioned, and now I get to see yours first. It's a great natural look that I think will be even better for my space. I have two areas on each side of my house where nothing will grow but moss. A perfect place for pathways from my front to back yard on each side.
Really helpful instruction and wonderful tips. Beautifully done and told. Thank you for sharing your experience with these different paths over time, and the insights you learned along the way (will definitely be using landscape fabric, thanks to this video). Cheers!
Nicole and Ray, I love your flagstone pathways and rock edging on the garden beds! All of your different garden rooms are gorgeous and extremely hard work! ~Margie
I appreciate your tips for how to go about using the square shovel as a lady. Your right that we can’t always do things in the same way a man can, but there’s always a way we can make it work for us.
Yes exactly! Men are blessed with more muscle mass but women are blessed with endless energy that they don't always have. Where there's a will, there's a way!
Great video, thank you! (Just love the Japanese grass under the hemlocks you did recently. It just looks so Beautiful! So simple, soothing and tranquil) “Gently remove the cat” 😅😅
Beautiful! And I love the idea of letting the stones mark where they lay. I always have my SawzAll with me when doing stuff like this - easy to cut the outline. It’s also handy when putting in new plants - I have a lot of big roots to cut through. The same golf cart that carries my SawzAll and shovels pulls a tarp - handy for piling up the turf and soil, plus misc. sticks and yard trash, equipment like drip irrigation tubing, or even bags of mulch. Wheelbarrow usually stays in the shed.
Your hard work certainly shows! You have a beautiful yard and love the flagstone pathways. I'm inspired to try this in my yard. Thanks for making this video!!
This video was so helpful! New homeowner looking for a reasonable guide for a new diy-er. Made me excited to get going tomorrow. Thank you for sharing and showing your beautiful gardens!
Glad it was helpful! This comment made my day as this is why we do this and it's really fun to meet other diy-ers and gardeners. Thanks for stopping by Ashley!
Thank you so much! I haven't had much luck with my bearded since I can't seem to keep the rhizomes exposed because of all the debris falling from the oaks lol. But I sure have beautiful Ceasar's Brother and Japanese Iris.
Wow you did a lot of hard work and such an amazing job! I sure learned a lot and will use your techniques. I love the different looks with flagstone with grass and then the landscape fabric/pea gravel/and stones.
This is the BEST video! You look like a model, not a garden gnome, or whatevet you said.😂 I knew you had to be from Jersey, the way you pronounced water like "wooder". Lol I'm in W. TN, zone 7b, and my partner is from Pitman, NJ. He says "water" (wodder) now. My DREAM is to garden in NJ, because our summers are miserably HOT. The work you just showed - just the digging and placing of ONE flagstone would wear me out! You do beautiful work. Thank you for this video!
Aww thanks so much! Yes, we definitely have a specific accent lol. I do love gardening in the "garden state" but our humidity here can be quite oppressive even when the temps are lower. I imagine there is a downside to every state. I hope to visit TN soon and do some country line dancing!
Thanks Diane!! Yes, they are very heavy but over the years I've learned methods of moving them without ever lifting their full weight. I wasn't blessed with a lot of upper body strength lol.
Love your videos always to the point and great info. You are a worker like most of us gardeners 😉we will have some back neck shoulder knee soreness as time marches on lol Now to turn my compost 🙃🥴🤔
I love your paths Nicole. I just love the look of pea gravel. Where we put it was previously mulch and the pea gravel doesn’t move as bad as the mulch. I had to sweep mulch off the stepping stones all the time and I just sweep the pea gravel off occasionally . Your grand kids are adorable❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much Jean! Yes, I love pea gravel too...I do find it hard to weed in the areas without fabric though and I'm not one for spraying. Luckily I kind have made peace with the weeds adding greenery lol.
Thanks for the sympathy! I expected to be really sore from all the bending (and confession...sod removal is the worst) but I was surprisingly ok the next day, yay for small wins lol.
Thank you Jen. I don't use any particular brand but I do make sure it's the fabric type, not plastic since the plastic heats up too much and isn't as breathable.
Hello Jennifer! They are leyland and Murray Cypress. I keep them heavily pruned so I'm not surprised that they look like Arbs on video. Thank you so much!
Not sure yet, the pinky winky standard will overwinter in the pot but I may underplant it with something that berries. I think it will depend on what's available. Our nurseries clear out here in the fall so it's slim pickin's lol. Thank you so much!
