As a parent of 30 somethings, I’m proud of you both that you have the where-with-all to step out, take the associated risks (I’m sure there’s some fear as well) and live a life that you’ve chosen, not one that’s prescribed and generally expected- the “go to school, get a good Corp. Job, get married, have kids...” You truly have no idea how the choices you are both making today are going to positively impact your future generations whether that be your children, nieces/nephews etc. It’s so refreshing seeing young people living counter cultural lives. I love the Patreon idea. It reminds me of the "Farmer's Market" concept...where consumers get what they want directly without a middle man. I don't like the way YOutube has treated many of the creators, often not paying them without giving an explanation. I remember Rae telling me in Tampa that 10 minutes of video takes you eight hours to prepare. You deserve to be compensated because you provide a good product. I wish you continued success.
Just subscribed to your channel. Happy for your decision to full time. I had a career for 42 years and pretty much just went on vacations. I am retired however I'm not able to rv full time. Enjoy while you're young because you may not get another chance. Best to you.

Well, I'm probably different than most people, but I think you guys (youtubers) work really hard, and we've been coming out of a get-everything-digital-for-free kind of era. Content has been free for some time, and it's been really hard on our creative makers. (Web/Systems developer here). I do think it goes against the grain for people to use Patreon for the most part, only because, like a restaurant server, if the option to pay exists, people default to "no." But the moment they want something that costs, say... the products you use... they'll anty-up if it means they get something tangible in exchange. Hubby and I are in the middle of buying/setting-up our new RV. We're getting solar installed by Future Sales in Elkhart that we found on KYD's channel, and we're having an IS suspension installed by MORryde the next day, thanks to you guys
For what it's worth, I don't usually watch videos that are more 15 minutes long. I sure don't watch videos that are more than 20 minutes long unless it's a detailed how-to topic. I like 10-minute videos.
If anything content creators do not get a high enough percentage of the ad revenue. Having worked at an Internet startup that provided a “Free” service that was funded through ad and lead generation, I think you guys are doing great and working hard. Keep up the good work!
I understand the business end of what you do. I like a mix of add free and your adventures. to me, the older generation, I enjoy the adventures you go on and for us to enjoy that, you need to let your sponsors advertise we get it. Advice would be to watch youtube videos of TV from the early 50's to see how advertising was inlaid to TV shows and how they did it and how its been perfected. i'm a huge history buff and feel that we all learn our crafts by what has been tried in the past. I teach my students to be a good student of the job and learn from it. just one old guys opinion. I have always loved your videos. you 2 kids are genuine people and that's refreshing.

I definitely like for RU-vid content creators such as yourself to make money. And I like supporting you to the point of spending my time to enjoy your videos, often sitting through the commercials even though I despise them. And RU-vid has gotten so greedy with them lately. I can't even pause, go to the bathroom, and then come back to pick up where I left off without having to watch another commercial first before I can resume. BUT, I don't have commercial, broadcast TV. So the bulk of my screen entertainment is RU-vid. And I subscribe to about 150 channels (of which you are in my top 10). It is financially impossible for me to support all of you via Patreon. So my support is via subscribing with notifications, giving a thumbs up to each video, and watching each all the way to the end, including some commercials.

To answer your questions... I can see the benefit to the creator in both models. As a viewer, I really don't like company sponsored content. The rest of us have to pay full price for product. As for community donations, I feel like it's paying to have a friendship with the popular kids. I think I get that feeling from kyd and LJMJ bc only their "insiders" are privy to more information and interaction. But if consumers want to give donations to content creators, more power to them. I wish I could pay for all the content I watch but that's just not feasible. If it was required, i guess I just wouldn't be watching RU-vid. Thanks for a great transparent video! Personally, I prefer to support you tubers by using their Amazon stores, affiliate links, and usually I let the ads play if they are not too long. It takes a lot of effort to put videos together so I see nothing wrong with you making a buck.

You should do a blooper reel video like, 2018, 2019, etc. Kara and Nate channel did that and we loved it. Didn't you also have an amazon store/business? Would love to know what happened with that!

My biggest problem with people who make money on youtube are the ones Like nomadic fanatic and Carolyn. They push banners and ask (or tell) people to go to their e begging site And these types of people just drive me crazy. As for money from RU-vid I'm all for it. It does take alot of work To edit and upload videos. You guys are fine in my book.

I have no problem with the folks I watch on RU-vid making money. In fact, I'll start suffering through a few more ads now that I know a little more on how that process works.
Great video. A lot of the other videos just give a vague description.I watch RU-vid every Sunday and catch up. Depending on the weather in the great northwest, I may jump in a little more often to watch what's out there. It's funny that you will get the label of a "Sell out" for doing what you love and getting paid for it. When you say it out loud, who wouldn't want to get paid for doing what they love!! lol You guys have great videos. Keep it up.

I try to watch all ads to the end as I am aware of the benefit to your channel. However, some of the ads run 50 mins (longer than the video) and a huge time commitment. Sorry, I do skip those ads. I do love your channel and want to support your efforts.
I'm good with either way. If company sponsorship...I definitely want the RU-vidr to be using the product/service. I also support a few RU-vidrs through Patreon. I'm using the product (videos) and want them to continue 🤷
I’m guilty of not watching ads, I feel you shouldn’t feel guilty of asking for support as anyone in you position would do the same. As for sponsors I say more power to you. Everyone complaining is just jealous. There will always be haters. And supporters. I gain much knowledge from RU-vid. More than probably from school. I appreciate your vids. Well. I have been waiting for this video for YEARS lol- million dollar question(s) answered. I LOVE your format, I love your companies that you support- We have gotten so much off of your reccomendations. I dont understand the interweb of youtube but keep doing what you are doing- We do watch the ads because a little birdie informed us about that a few years back. I enjoy your content all the time (as you know) however I am really missing my Jason buzzed bloopers after touring town pubs lol. RE Patreon- I would be broke if I supported all of my "framily" so I choose to support you in other ways by merchandise etc. Its not that I disagree with the patreon platform i just dont have enough $ to spread around. I love supporting RU-vidrs by purchasing their products. I just wish they didn't always have their logo on them. Like Elsa Rea makes beautiful jewelry and your funny camping designs are nice. I also think courses are a great way to make money. As far as videos, my favorite are B role when the creator isn't pointing to a beautiful scene with their face in the middle lol. I'll be honest, I joined patreon for a RU-vidr because I wanted to support their content. But it became annoying when they began spending tons of money on a new house with a remodel then an out of country vacation and always new designer label clothes. Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge folks having money, I just felt like those people didn't need my money. So now I'm a bit sour on the idea. Anyway.. those are my thoughts. Oh btw we love your videos. I will watch the commercials all the way through to help.
You forgot the third video. You did how to make money, how to save money, coming up. But what about the third video, how to spend all the money you make. LOL. But good video, didn't realize all the ways to make money. Plus I am sure there are many more.
We are looking to buy an RV and live in it for a few months (3-4mo the max) waiting for a job transfer instead of signing another lease. We have a new baby, teenager and 2 large dogs. Any suggestions on how we can make this more comfortable for all of us? Also, any suggestions on the type of RV we should be looking at, we will be pulling it with our truck. On a side note we are all very tall people. 😀 comfort and space are essential.
I’m on a fixed income and follow several channels, rving and other subjects. I really can’t afford to give to all of them. I’m glad that there are people who can, I’m just not one of them.
I enjoy your videos & other RVers as well. I have no problem with you making money. I however, feel left out in the cold because I won't pay. I get it. I have followed a couple of You Tubers from the beginning & just feel left out cause of that "community" fee. I live on a tight budget & I do penny pinch. FYI, you guys have come a long way from the first videos.

In principal I like to support my favorite RU-vidrs via Patreon, but it's getting pricey. I'm tipping 5 patrons, but it's costing me $50/month, which is equivalent to a streaming service subscription, yet that's for just 5 channels. We're newly retired and are going to be on a fixed income, so may have to cut back on Patreon. I also try to use the affiliate links whenever I order from Amazon, etc. I will watch the entire ad (as long as its not too long). I prefer when Patreon is used as a tip jar, and everyone gets the same perks, rather than the tiered approach. Also, I've supported some on Patreon who didn't deliver the promised benefits, so had to drop those. So I do what I can and hope it helps. I know creating RU-vid content is a full-time job and appreciate that people keep doing it.
Nice job really enjoyed it. I would like to see pure content, from my standpoint, that is how it starts out. Once you get monetized then that becomes the focused on making money. I’m an IT consultant and I have been working outside the office for years. My question is how do you give up a 100k job that allows you to work from anywhere to become a RU-vidr?
Hey, Gary! Good question. I had to think on this for a bit but the answer boils down to freedom. We're financially stable so it's not like we're making poor choices now and will be struggling when we're older. We've always socked away money and put into our 401Ks (and are still doing so). So even though we're not putting away as much as we were with my job, we have much more flexibility, freedom, and lowered stress levels.

Why would anyone have a problem with someone else making money. RU-vid is considered entertainment and if you want the entertainment it has to be paid for somehow. TV is paid for by advertisers, Subscription Services are paid for by Subscribers and Advertisers. In a small way i get entertainment at someone else's cost. If they don't want the commercials I guess they can buy the commercial free subscription. It always pisses me off when people complain about others making money. Take the risk, work hard and you to can experience the American dream. I applaud everyone willing to put themselves out there in the public, work hard to produce a product and market it (insert clapping hands here) to you guys for being smarter then they are and getting your adventures paid for (well almost!!).
Good day guys. Love your channel. I will try to answer your question about company sponsorships or community-driven channels the best I can. First, I'll start by saying that I follow many RU-vidrs. Very few of them live the RV lifestyle the same way I do. At times, when I think of supporting these channels, I think of supporting the ones that are more similar to me in their ways of RVing. That wouldn't be fair since they are mostly worried free about income. They have enough on their own. Back to your questions. I tend to prefer corporate sponsorships. To answer the question about why I don't want to pay RU-vidrs at times is very simple. Most claim not to be rich or have little money. Although I believe it to be true for most, I have a very hard time believing it when they post videos showing 20 000 dollars upgrades (solar and batteries, mostly), new expensive video equipment, change rigs often, etc. Don't take me wrong, I don't mind that people have better their lives. Just don't tell me that you have no money when I can see that you have plenty to spend on upgrades and gadgets. Now that I tried to explain my position about this subject the best I could, I 100% support that RU-vidrs be paid for their much needed work. What you did today in this video is awesome and very important. Viewers like me needed to understand how it works. You couldn't explain it any better than you did. THANK YOU! I do click on links when a RU-vidr propose something that I'm interested in. I have been a patreon for some (I change at times so I can help different communities). I have not done superchats. I have not yet bought merchandise, but I will. I would proudly wear items from the different RU-vidrs I am following. I have no problem with 15 second ads popping up, but I will skip anything longer than 30 seconds. Some ads have popped up as long as 45 minutes, and that becomes a topic video in itself, totally unrealistic to think I clicked on a video to watch an unrelated ad. Question for you, are you able to sustain and save with just these revenue sources? You're very young, and life growth and issues will come your way. Having $$$ in the bank is a must with this lifestyle.
Yes, that's insane! I didn't even know there were ads out there that long. And yes, we are able to save as well. We also were very focused on saving before jumping into this lifestyle and contributing to our 401Ks (we're still doing both) so we're still preparing for the future :)
Most people don't understand how much work what you do is. Don't worry about them, they're not really as important as they think they are. Here's my favorite model; I listen to a podcast that offers an opportunity to subscribe to his website for about $50.00 per year. He pushes all his subscribers to his website so he's not at the mercy of patreon or youtube. In return, he negotiates a discount with vendors he recommends that is only available to his subscribers. Now he is offering a value to his supporters. He also monitises affiliate links and takes direct sponsors.
Just a comment about those viewers who feel RU-vidrs shouldn't make any money all from any source, ever. Those folks clearly have never tried to be a youtuber. Is expensive to get the gear to produce and edit videos, and good videos are really time consuming to make. I would flip the question back on them. Do they think everyone they encounter in life should be working for free? The clerks at their grocery store? Their package delivery driver? The artists and creators on tv, radio, etc. that keep them entertained? Their doctors? Their car mechanics? RU-vidrs are no different than all those folks. Like all the other professions I just mentioned, they provide a service to others. They should be able to get paid according to the value they provide.
I don't understand anyone who even cares if you make money on RU-vid! Everyone, well almost everyone, needs to make a living. No one is forcing anyone who watches YT vids to buy anything or spend any money, so what's the bib deal? I think some people just don't have anything better to do than find something to criticize! Geeze! Anyway, I think any platform, regardless of what it is, is a completely viable method and I don't have a favorite. Although, I actually find it great for people to ask for Patreon support. If I like what they're doing and am getting value from it, I don't have a problem supporting them. Most people don't ask for much, some as little as $5 a month. So, be picky about whom you support...simple as that. If you don't have a lot of bucks to spend, then pick the one you REALLY get value from and give up that $5 a month. Nothing is free in the long run and there is a lot of valuable information out there, including your channel, that deserves the income in any way you can make it! You go! KEEP IT UP...from a fellow RV'r....live your dreams, live your life and have a ball doing it!
