I remember doing mum's ironing in the kitchen, carefully timed so that I could listen to the Archers on the radio. It was a great series in those days (1970s/early 80s).
Avril and Laurence were great characters - especially Laurence, he always makes me laugh! It is really sad how they were both killed off in the 1954-1970 series, they were killed in a car crash on their son's birthday. A bit disturbing for a schools programme - you actually see their car explode and burst into flames.
I didn't know that some of the Hodgkins family reappeared in the 1954-70 series, I had only seen the 1936-53 series, I would be interested in watching it sometime if it's on youtube too
@@mikey021984 The 1954-1970 series is on RU-vid. The actors playing the older versions Avril and Laurence looked very similar to the originals, but Jimmy and Eileen in 1954-1970 were nothing like the original actors
