I've had good success using molasses for rust removal. You mix 1 part to 8-10 parts water and let the pieces soak for about a week. Rise, dry, prime, and paint or just wipe it down with some light oil. A while back, I did two post vises, in a 20 gallon plastic trash can. Best part is, you can just mix the spent solution in with your garden compost.
@@vipir06 Yeah, I've only used the cheap blackstrap that you can get in bulk at the local feedstore. Not sure if the higher quality stuff that comes off earlier in the cane sugar refinement process would work differently.
Do you have any idea how many times you can re-use a gallon of it before it stops working......? Also I'm pretty sure that if they sold it in 55gal drums I'd be 1st in line .... LOL Also have you ever used or thought about using it for engine block or car parts that need to be restored and if so was it a good turnout or maybe not so good?? 1 Gallon will remove 1/2lb of dry rust. Which is a pretty fair amount. This five gallons has lasted me a very long while considering everything I've evaporusted. 55 Gallon drums are for sale on Amazon and other places, though it seems cheaper to buy the 5 gallon buckets individually.
Hi again from England... That roughness on the drive dog you showed were sand mould finish & light inclusions... I think that stuff is a molasses base...
it works but is not cheap 5 gallons run you $100. If your working on small parts it's way to go. I have a place in town that dips car bodies in caustic soda give larger stuff to them. I have tried acids and stuff all of that stuff is difficult to handle Evaporust doesn't hurt your skin.
