Your intro made me think about the power of storytelling. Stories are powerful teaching tools because they mimic our lived experience. We are not just brains thinking, we are people sensing, tasting, touching, experiencing and that’s what we see lived out in stories. But stories are also power because of something they don’t share with lived experience: Narrative structure. We long to know the meaning of our experiences and understand our lives as a structured narrative, but like Jesus’ disciples, we don’t know the full meaning of most (all?) events and situations until we reach the end. A story packages all that for us; that’s why it’s a powerful way to teach the truth.

What is the word you are using in your video in relation to the pearl? How do you spell it? It’s a new one for me.

Hi, He is saying pericope : "an extract from a text, especially a passage from the Bible" I had never heard it pronounced out loud before, so I looked it up to verify I was thinking about the right word. (I originally thought it sounded more like periscope. I'm glad I learned the right way to say it :D)

@@tammygant4216 Thanks for jumping in Tammy! And bonus points for the correct answer! It's is from a Greek word that means "to cut around." So a pericope is a short portion of a text that you can cut around - or see that it is a self contained unit - like one of the parables.
