Lol. If everyone thinks like you, there would be no work in prison. SO FREAKING NEGATIVE. So when ur company does donate if any, they dont get any publicity means the company stupid?

Part of it would indeed be branding impact. It's not that uncommon - look up Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). (Though… at long as the needy benefit, why not?)

It really depends on the companies themselves. Some for the sake of showing they do their parts in CSR, period. Some find it helps the society and build characters and awareness amongst their employees. Positive image projection is most definitely part of the motivating factors.
