How Would the World React to a US Civil War?

We have discussed the issue of national divorce on the show quite a few times, but one of the things we have never considered is…how does the rest of the world react to one? So today…thanks to questions from our online community, especially those by Chris and Joshua, we are going to ask questions like…if the US were to go to war what would China, Russia, the EU, and our neighbors do? Would they directly intervene, would one side appeal to foreign support? Would

Freedom was dead then too, don't let people fool you. Unless you were a land owning, white man who was over the age of 25 and in some states a Protestant Christian, you couldn't even vote, let alone enjoy the many liberties we do today. Today, we are enduring complete corruption of every aspect of government and the curtailing of our individual liberties is the tool that corruption uses to maintain control. Back then, refusing freedom was the goal, not just the tool for achieving other goals.

I live in Marxist Michigan and the way things are here are pretty ridiculous. We have some of the highest taxes in the country and now the state is considering a "milage tax" on cars to help "fix the roads" supposedly. With what the gas taxes are, that should be good enough to fix the roads. Yet the state actors here just want to suck more money from the people. Things are absolutely ridiculous here. Don't get me wrong, i really love this state. It's beautiful and has lots of great places but the government in this state are just Kleptocratic beings. I really wish I could have someone teach me about campaigning and teach me what all needs to happen so i could run for governor or state congress. In a way I look to you @Nick Freitas for how a person of the state is supposed to be. I think you are a great example of how a public employee is supposed to act and perform.

I lived in Michigan for a few years in the 90s (Oscoda) so I know the wages and housing prices are significantly lower there, but if you think taxes and gas are high, look at where I live (Seattle area) We pay on average almost a dollar more per gallon of regular gas. Depending on what city you're in is what your sales tax is, but we pay an avg of 10+% in sales tax here. We don't have a milage tax, they just add it to our gas prices, or by adding toll booths. You guys still outshine everyone in car insurance, though. I remember being shocked when I moved back to WA State and my car insurance went down!

For the opening question… We are already seeing the results from a civil war. Ukraine, Israel, China in our borders, Russia in our gulf coast, our students supporting terrorist, Taiwan under threat, internal divisions with trust issues. I could go on, and on. You did a great post the other day about the Roman Empire imploding in the same way that America is imploding now. Both of which are Republics. Mexico is creating a canal that is just perfect for a foreign invasion. While we as a people are bickering over social issues the adversaries of America are laying the groundwork for invasion of our country. This is where we are at right now. This has been ushered in by the Democratic Socialist Progressive Liberal Party of the Globalist.

I guess it was a joke because the government has crippled Americans citizens by orchestrating an illegal alien invasion. Americans are starving and losing houses all the while the corrupt commie government pays for criminals to have health care housing and universal income. THE UNITED STATES HAS FALLEN.

I expect China to bump up disinformation campaigns and surreptitiously provide aid to losing factions in order to ramp up and sustain infighting. Simultaneously they would engage in public hand wringing and offer assistance to our neighbors. Likely they would take Taiwan and other neighbors while we are distracted. Russia would intensify their land grabs while Europe criticizes us and provides nominal resistance to Russia. Good chance Europe would turn to China for assistance! Every economy around the globe would collapse, as would USD. At current point I think Tehran would consider attacking Israel, but rest of Arabic countries would not. Meanwhile, as their position becomes more precarious and with less concern for American and European views - Israel might feel forced to worry less about civilians and more about their soldiers - with potential for FAR more deaths in Gaza.

@ADobbin1
@ADobbin1 23 дня назад
probably sooner.
@formes2388
@formes2388 23 дня назад
@@ADobbin1 I'd say: Probably not. Canada's economy was screwed over the last Trudeau - similar reasons as the current one: Government interference in the economy, inflationary monetary policies, growth of social programs that we lacked government revenue to fund... By the time Harper took office in the early 2000's, Canada's economy was on growth trajectory, balanced the government budget, slashed the spending, and largely had fixed inflation issues. Canada can do this again. And odds are, we can largely turn things around within ~5 years. The US issues are far longer, and deeper. If things collapse tomorrow - the US economic engine is very dependent on foreign manufacturing capability. Canada on the other hand, has a huge resource extraction aspect, that - while time consuming. What this generally means is, Canada has an avenue to re-correct and crawl back, without ever defaulting. The US Economic situation with it's huge trade deficit, dependency on the Petrol-Dollar agreement, and things are going south for that, and has been since ~2000? It's a big part of why the US invaded Iraq, and not just went to blow up the Taliban and walk away. In another way to put it: The higher you climb, the farther you have to fall - and Canada has a lot of flexible room to fix itself. And whatever the next government will be - probably CPC - has a lot of general will of the populace to do some pretty drastic moves to fix the state of Canada.

Sorry but you're wrong about Hawaii. I was born and raised here. Hawaii is completely reliant on the US mainland. If shipping broke down it would be chaos. Also, the hawaiian government is an authoritarian democratic institution. It's possibly the most corrupt state and the governor has the most power of any US governors over their state. The people however are not woke leftists. They never have been. They have identified as democrats in the past 30 years or so but their values are very classical liberal. If you place people in hawaii based on their values, most would align with the conservatives. Traditional hawaiian culture is very conservative and it used to be a red state. Most of the older people have always been more conservative but there have been maaaaany corrupt secret socialists in office here since we "became a state". They keep the people ignorant through the manipulation of the aloha spirit with their generous sounding lies. The actual people here are normal people just like anywhere else.

It does however require that the land be divided up into pie shaped districts so they could utilize all the resources from the mountain to the ocean. Lahaina was actually known as the venice of the pacific because it had so many streams but today, after all the regulations and large company takeovers that deverted all their water is a windy dusty dried out husk. Our state motto is "Ua mau ka`ea ika Aina ika Pono" "The life of the land is perpetuated in rightousness". Oh how right they were. People stopped caring for the land and so it's dying. Also, the hawaiian royalty was very well educated, even among royalty, and were good at international relations.

@@the_Kurgan Brain drain to the US and "Progressive" Brainrot are imported from the US. It doesn't matter how much we make economically by selling our resources if we just end up dying from the mind-virus and Brain Drain. Not to mention the culture we keep importing killing our own. Throwing away our pride and history. How many know about Wolfe or Sir Isacc Brock? Its also not democracy the Western Provinces are pushing but are just copying the US culture.

@the_Kurgan I think you meant to say that Canadian conservatives (as in classical liberals) would support a representative republic. The term "democracy" has been severely perverted. It is not a good thing if it isn't limited by specific and iron-clad limits (inalienable rights). A pure democracy is two lions and a gazelle voting on what to have for lunch. It automatically and immediately becomes a dystopian populist nightmare. Socialism always turns to shit as well, but it takes much longer. Your country is a prime example of that (although we are not far behind our northern neighbors...)

@avroaechitect1793 close the border? That would hardly accomplish anything. Mamy Americans would want to leave the US to avoid the Civil War, and even if just 1 percent went to the canada border, that's 3 and a half million people fleeing. The border crossings may be closed, but the people would flood in. There would be no stopping it.

I'm only 20 minutes in, so my view on this discussion may change. I very much enjoy the discussion and respect Nick as much as anyone, but I think all 3 of these folks have somewhat of an immature view of what a civil war would look like. Suggesting that the west coast would become a Democrat enclave is odd to me, as all 3 Pacific states have significant conservative populations. I don't think this would be a state-to-state conflict, but more of an incumbent vs. renegade faction war within and between states. I may be wrong, but it's definitely a good conversation point. Either way, great conversation from these folks!
@MochiMoose
@MochiMoose 24 дня назад
I agree. If it really came to team red vs team blue, it’s the rural areas vs the cities. A few strategic infrastructure attacks on the cities, and team blue couldn’t be bothered to fight a war when they’re tearing themselves apart in the city due to starvation or lack of water, bridges down, blocking ports, no power… the coastal cities would need immediate outside aid and landlocked cities would be in too much turmoil and offer no resources that team red would need. Many of the “Blue States” would turn red REAL quick because the reality is, team blue is spread thin by vast expanses of red between them. Team Red’s main issue in a conflict is the majority of its support would have moral dilemmas with the collateral damage through necessary action that stand between its idea of restoring the constitution and largely libertarian ideals and actually getting there. Most of the population just doesn’t have the stomach for a drawn out conflict, and our military that has been able to stomach it, has done so under false/highly uninformed pretenses combined with “you will be thrown in a cage if you don’t do this” AND highly compartmentalized knowledge of the the actual ends that can only be reached the tasks that are performed by the people doing the work.

We acknowledge that there is a major urban/rural divide that makes it difficult to determine how fighting might play out...one of teh criteria we tried to use to allow for a robust conversation was the idea of significant geographical self sorting before conflict really gets hot,.

In regards to a foreign power using nukes against us in the event of an internal civil war it is counter intuitive since you can't occupy radioactive land and if their goal is to wait out the civil war and then try to stake a claim it would not be feasible.

No, nuclear fallout is overstated. Nobody wants to assume/boast about nuclear war being "not so bad" but many of the 50-60s era assumptions like nuclear winters, 100 year half-life radioactivity, poisonous air, etc isn't likely to happen. People can invade and take portions of land. It's just not logistically favorable for nations that can do so, especially if they get hit back by another power.

Hawaii Massachusetts and maybe Maryland and Delaware are the only full blue states oh and D.C. in a separate box I would throw Minnesota and Michigan they are Istanilands. That is my 2 cents.

My view is this will go all the way down to the county/town/small city level. State lines would be redrawn by counties aligning with others they share commonality with. Think about Virginia: west of Lynchburg is more like WV, NC and TN; Northern California aligns more with eastern Oregon, Western Colorado with Utah, and examples go on. As I see it, the big cities will be cut off to wither, with their only supply chains coming in by water- IF those water ways stay open.
