I've watched 3 minutes of this and I already know I desperately need it. Believe me, I've been completely lost in this fallacy for the past ten years and I knew something was off. Most of it I have figured out, but I just needed a stronger push from someone that means good.
Nearly all of us have grown up submerged in this worldview. The redefinition of love as affirmation rather than seeking of objective good has even been largely accepted within the Christian church. I've been unpacking these ideas for years and now I notice just how often this programming can be triggered and used to manipulate even normally Bible believing brothers (including myself, despite knowing better).
The examples from our culture's entertainment reflecting these ideas was wise. It's too easy to just consume stuff without thinking in any depth about it.
This should have at least a million views. So many young people wouldn't feel so confused and unhappy if they could pursue this life path instead of "expressive individualism". God bless Live Action.

@@paxchristi1661 what I got from it was that your thoughts influence your emotions, which in turn influence behaviors. A small example would be let's say you failed a test. You can think that you failed the test because you're stupid and the professor hates you. You could also think that I failed because I didn't study hard enough. You can quit, because you've convinced yourself you're not smart enough, or you can prioritize the work and try harder. It also helped me take accountability in my situations. It took some work but it is true that how you think correlates to how you feel. I hope that helps!
Same. I did DBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and I have experience with CBT. It really changed a lot for me. I was thinking exactly what you said when I was listening to the video.
She did Invoke the CBT model. Although I found it interesting that she did so while saying that we're overpsychologized. This model comes from Psychology. I should also point out that she seemed to invoke repressed Is memory therapy that led to the largest catastrophe within the history of psychology... Even more of a catastrophe than the lobotomy did in psychiatry.

I don't agree with everything in this video (the only thing I disagree with is that I don't oppose all same-sex unions), but I just need to point out the fact that Lila Rose is one of the kindest, most genuine, and most diligent people I have watched online. Lila, if you are reading this, thank you for everything you do to fight for the rights of the unborn. You are a hero, and your empathy and love is so evident.

@@uncreatedlogosI don’t think that standing for equal rights of the unborn should be a political issue. It is a common sense and human rights issue. There’s many moderates and even gay people who oppose abortion, and it is something everyone should oppose because it slaughters innocent humans.
I think this message is very important, and challenging modern views on sexuality and individualism is very necessary. Just one addition, Freud never wrote anything about sexuality being the basis of identity. This is a big simplification of what he actually wrote. He wrote about the "drive"-- the desire that we have as long as we are alive, something that begins in the body but is then transformed by the psyche and distinguishes humans from animals. In its core it is the desire for life but it takes many forms-- and it manifests in love and sex and many other types of affections, caring for the community, art, etc. It's a much deeper philosophical take than just "sexuality is the basis of identity"
The older I get (I'm 24), the less highly I think of individualism. I was a 90s Disney kid, and heard ALL those messages that I'm all I need to be happy, that I can "chAnGE thE wORld!" however I want to, and that if something makes me unhappy, I should change it. But it makes for such a miserable life! Especially now that I'm happily married. I was raised by good Christian parents to not think of myself first, but I STILL find myself being selfish about what I want, when it is opposite to what my husband wants (which will happen in _any_ relationship). So the older I get, the more it seems that putting the needs of the group (or the marriage unit) above what I want, basically _always,_ makes our marriage so much better -- which makes ME happier later! Man, individualism is such a lie!
When you decided for everyone else what reality you think we all must live in, you picked one that works for you and rewards the way you have been trained to behave. Convenient for you.
What you have actually described is the pro-abortion mentality: Abortion is deciding for someone else that they should be murdered for the sake of your own convenience. whatisabortion.com
@@LiveActionFilms wait, did you just admit that your mentality kills people for your convenience? Because there’s a whole lot of blood on the hands of people who cannot see past the gender binary, that’s for sure.
@@LiveActionFilmsI don't think that this person was advocating for a pro. Abortion stance. I think they were taking a completely different perspective than that.
I know a person close to me, that acted out this kind of “love for others”. That attitude almost broke her. That person is still unhappy. So that’s what you get for always looking out for others.
What you describe is an unhealthy form of self- sacrifice. If you ignore your own needs, you eventually burn out. A holistic life means that you care for yourself in a healthy way and relate to others to support them
Even if you have not fallen into the grips of modern lust over everything theory this is helpful to reorient yourself into what is actually real and important
This is wonderful information! So many people need to hear the truth about how Christianity changed the world and truly freed people to pursue truth and goodness. I don't think too many pagan cultures were big on elevating women and slaves. 🤔
So insightful. I've often thought of asking people, "Who told you that?" Who told you it was okay to do that? Wear that? Watch that? It's a question I ask myself as I seek to align myself with the truth of God's Word and not the shifting sands of culture.
I should point out that Carl Truman is not a historian. He identifies himself as a theological historian. Somewhere else I heard him. Refer to himself as an ecclesiastical historian. Which is another way of saying evangelical Christian historian. 😅 Who, by the way, disagrees with Lyla Rose on the history of Catholicism. I realized that Lyla read one of his books and then thought she was an expert on the subject. You're gonna have to do a lot more than that to get me on your side.
Personal identity is too complex to reduse it to personal orientation or tradition. That’s why we need reason, so that everybody can find a solution that works for them.
Excellent video! But that's not what Qui-Gon was getting at in the Phantom Menace. Anakin was about to participate in an extremely high-speed race, at age 9. He had not yet been trained as a Jedi but had Force abilities. Qui-Gon is telling Anakin to not get in his head during the race. By feeling rather than thinking, his Force-powered Jedi reflexes will not be impeded. Star Wars, and the fictional Jedi order in particular, is not a place to go for examples of the culture pushing "just be you." (At least, not the Star Wars made by Lucas.) The Jedi were all about serving others. So much so that marriage, and even romantic love, were frowned on / forbidden. I'm not trying to be that guy. It's just if we want to communicate this important message to our world, our evidence needs to be solid. 'If they took Star Wars out of context, they probably took other things out of context and just have an axe to grind.'
I want to start by saying I have a deep sense of gratitude for Live Action, and I am very inspired by Lila Rose. I strongly agree with Live Action's stance against abortion and other societal ills that treat human beings as commodities or deprecate human dignity. I do want to emphasize, however, that there are many gay and lesbian people that are vehemently opposed to what the "LGBTQ+" movement has become. We have been hearing a lot from the loud extremists of that movement, but the reality is, the majority of people who do have an attraction to the same-sex just want to live their lives and be left alone. Personally, I don't see a problem with two adults of the same-sex dating each other as long as they are not forcing or expecting others to do anything. I think we ought to recognize that homosexuality is a real thing, and it's not only because of abuse or past experiences... it can be, and in most cases is, the orientation that many people have felt for as long as they could remember. It's not just sexual, it's also an emotional and romantic attraction. Just as when you have a crush on a person of the opposite-sex, you can have a crush on a person of the same-sex too, and that doesn't mean it is lustful or sexually abhorrent. I think it's important to recognize that the current movement does NOT represent the majority of gays and lesbians. It has turned into an extremist movement that adds on a new letter every week and has a strange tendency to target children. Also, Lila, if you are reading this, you are a huge role-model and inspiration. I would love if you could reply, but if not, that's alright! Kudos to you and what you guys do!
Nobody said same sex attraction wasn't a thing... 🤷♂️ Of course it exists. The question is what do you do about it?... This is what this is about. Because maybe it isn't actually the best thing for you if you follow your desires. (That doesn't just count for homosexuals but for everyone as Lila explained beautifully...)
@@VintageCardinal Are you also going to tell every heterosexual person than they are falling into their desires in exchange for their morals by dating someone of the opposite sex? Or are you just going to put that on homosexual people. There is nothing immoral or unethical with a man being in love with and dating another man... or a woman being in love with and dating another woman. To diminish that down to just "desire" is absurd. In-fact, same-sex unions are a good thing, because same-sex couples are 5 times more likely to adopt than opposite-sex couples. 1 million children in the USA are adopted and living with same-sex parents, which is much better than them being left in foster care or an orphanage. First of all, we have freedom of religion. People have different religions and beliefs, and there are a vast variety of views on topics such as homosexual relationships. Because it does not cause harm to others, there is no legal reason to prohibit two adults of the same-sex entering into a union if they love each other and wish to do so. Whether you believe it to be moral or not is dependent on your religion, interpretation, and/or denomination. There's a reason that abortion is a separate issue, because abortion KILLS people. Last time I checked, two dudes kissing didn't cause a baby to be slaughtered. If you are referring to the Bible, the Bible also condemns divorce and considers remarriage after divorce to be adultery. Yet, many of the same people condemning homosexuals and homosexuality are already on their second, third, or fourth marriages... or they see divorce & remarriage more acceptable than homosexual relationships. It is hypocrisy at its finest, and it is not rooted in biblical reasoning or genuine moral concern, but rather a lack of understanding and a lack of empathy for others. You are absolutely allowed to not approve of or dislike homosexual unions. That is dependent on your beliefs and your views. However, that does not give you the right to condemn people who are gay or lesbian, and it also does not give you the right to try and use the law to restrict people from entering a relationship with those of the same-sex. Also, why don't you put that same passion into condemning people who use contraception as well? As far as I know, that's also a very serious sin according to the Roman Catholic Church. I know why: because over 90% of heterosexual couples use some form of contraception.... many of the same people that are quick to preach against homosexuals and homosexuality. "The entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" - Galatians 5:14 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven." - Luke 6:37 "Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God." - Romans 14:10

Of course in ONE sense we NEED to "be ourselves". So many try to change in order to 'fit in' - when standing our ground on what we know to be true is the real key. For me, THAT is 'being myself' - meaning not swayed by what others around me ar doing - the majority.

It's a good video, the movie clips after every point are annoying though. They are too long and distracting but also aren't long enough to have the emotional impact. The point made about the presence of the idea in children's entertainment clips is a good one though
Going by our feelings is good if we are not wretched sinful beings. We are often blinded and self- deceived. We need to find the Truth of our True Identity to set us free. "Our hearts are deceitful above all things and beyond all cure. " Jeremiah 17:9
I find that I figure out my morals by deeply researching and experiencing all the different facets of the holistic self with objective human nature and seeing what I think and feel about it. There is objective morality for sure, but I can’t speak on anybody else’s conclusions about it. It’s all a balance between individualism and collectivism.
I’m not that focused on what is called basic human dignity. I seek higher forms of dignity, like knowing, what people think, as well, as to tolerate and pray for them.
Excellent video, thank you for making it. However, one thing to consider is the fact that you use the term “we“ quite a bit, but you might consider replacing it with “some people in society” As when you say “we “it implies the greater “we “which does not include you or me
It's a good video, the movie clips after every point are annoying though. They are too long and distracting but also aren't long enough to have the emotional impact.
Such a fine video in every way. Lila is well spoken (as usual), the script is well studied and substantiated, and the production and postproduction are of such great value. It shows how well the movement works and inspires others to work as well.

What she says is the classical definition of love depends on who you ask. She got that from Bishop Robert Barron and he invokes his Catholic faith in that. But if you go back to the Greeks and I'm talking the ancient Greeks that was not their definition of love. So it depends on what you mean by classical and love. Even within her claim of objective love... One could equally say that parents should go along with their child's transition because they're willing the good of their child. And that is their perception of good. This definition falls short in many ways without a proper framework. And that's why it's not a universal definition outside of the Catholic framework. There are many horrific things that have happened throughout history in the pursuit of people, believing that they were willing the good of the other. Even when she says that we should ask whether or not we feel a certain way because we need to make changes within our thoughts or feelings... This is a psychology approach. So you noticed she started saying, we were oversicologized and then literally went to psychology to try and explain something away or get somebody to change their perception. She was literally invoking cognitive behavioral therapy.
A lot of the problems of the mental health field are the reliance on people with only a master's level education to be counselors and therapists - at that level, they lack the education, experience and emotional maturity to truly help others. Most of them are just as messed up as the people they purport to help
I saw most of mental health as NPCs regurgitating motivational slogans and using the gaslight effect. I also saw the Christian counselors as taking the same corporate garbage, then sprinkling in God and Jesus.
This same message was being taught in a church I went to as gospel. It drove me crazy and took me years to put my finger on. "You be true to you" is essentially meaningless. It's like cotton candy, feels great but leaves you empty. Modern young people are suffering because everything they've been taught is meaningless, fed the cotton candy of meaning.
I wish I had been born into the traditional self dependent model. Instead, I was born into a terribly abusive parental relationship and repeatedly betrayed by my mother and father. As a result, I have adopted the modern self form of dependency because that was the only option available to me.

You just said what I think so deeply. I don't consider the homosexual act sex.I think Sex needs the inherent possibility of procreation Andis there to strengthen the relationship between the future mother and father. I consider the homosexual act, no matter lesbian or gay, a form of masturbation with the use of another body that fits sexual fantasies which are a result of a deep lack of something you wish so much for, but it doesn't have anything to do with love or sex.
Oh it's not narrow, I think you understand it to be that because you don't know what I mean actually. Using it to strengthen the bind between two spouses and with that, the core foundation of family and life, is actually the widest and wisest thing to do with it rather than to practice it for pleasure only or out of infatuation or hormonal outbursts. That's pretty narrow, for one reducing it to its physical dimension instead of elevating it to its wider spiritual purposes and using it for the good of family and community.
I wish i could just get all this knowledge as the TOB one too but in a second so i could go preach and help other people. I partially agree with the points raised in this video. There are some things brought up like individualism which has absolutely changed and affected our society in benign and problematic aspects. However, I do have some criticisms of this video. 1. The sexuality model for men and women to fit each other does not apply to everyone and isn't inherent to natural evolution. Homosexuality has always existed, and throughout history, many societies have attempted to find ways to eliminate homosexuality and they did not work. From criminalization to programs such as conversion therapy, homosexuals did not decrease. What is happening is that their minds are naturally programmed to be sexually attracted to people of the same sex/gender. These are not people who are experimenting with danger but are instead those whose minds are built differently by some stroke of luck to a similar level of the choice between an infant being randomly chosen by nature to be male or female. No matter how hard we try, we cannot "teach" a homosexual to be heterosexual. 2. Many of the movie references do not reinforce the point nor do they serve as evidence to it. When arguing a case, it is important to present evidence that directly builds on the case. And this video used it beautifully when invoking the cultural messages in entertainment movies such as "there is no secret ingredient" in Kung Fu Panda. However, many of the other movie references substitute exclamatory statements, which is counterintuitive in this video since it shift the tone away from a concrete point. This can be improved by introducing the movie references in order to highlight a societal trend such as saying "This trend is expressed in this movie, where a character has an episode about her feelings," then playing the movie, and then analyzing. These criticisms are based on the assumption that the video's primary purpose is argumentative and not entertainment.
Thank you, Lila, for so eloquently drawing the connection between psychological inadequacies, nurtured and engineered by modern secular ideology, and the rampant promiscuity and licentiousness we see today. Far from being liberating, this permissive attitude in favor of unfettered sexual freedom only leads to victimization and the devaluing of human dignity. People, in this worldview, become relegated to instruments of pleasure for others. Is it any wonder, in such an environment where humans are so debased, that people find it difficult to maintain long lasting relationships!?

I agree with the core of what you're saying but the definition of "individual" is incorrect. if people were "acting as an individual" then they wouldn't need the group to validate their actions. If you need the group to applaud your lifestyle then you're not acting as an individual, you're doing what the group wants. When people say they're just being "their true and authentic self", with the intent of fitting in, they are lying
Absolutely agree with you. She was trying to go in the right direction but there was a lot of definitions in terms and history she got wrong. She also seemed. To hint at the idea that homosexuality comes from child abuse. And that people need to get to the bottom of that in order to resolve their homosexual desires. Well, the problem with that is that it leads to people, believing they have a repressed memory of being abused and accusing other people. One of the worst Arizona psychology. If not, the worst era is during the repressed memory therapy era.
@@famvids9627 You're right. The idea that you have to dig up your past and relive it in order to overcome it is bad and comes from Freud. You reinforce what you repeat. I don't understand why people are obsessed with sex, ideally if I get married I personally find the process more disgusting than anything else. Sex is a function used to create children, I personally don't see any benefit for someone to put themselves through that for pleasure
I thought it was interesting that she invokes. Objective reasoning or observation. This hyperfocus on the objective actually comes from scientism. The problem with viewing everything. Objective is that you're a subject and subjective understanding also matters. And also can be measured scientifically. This is the reason that saint edith stein was able to abandon her Hyper objective approach and consider the writing of Teresa avila. This idea that we have to strictly go by. The objective misses the point as much as people saying we have to strictly go by the subjective. Even her definition of morality is actually quite weak because it reduces morality to that which can be scientifically proven.
I agree with many of those examples from movies, except you’re wrong about the Star Wars example. In that example Quigon was giving instructions to Anakin on how to use the force. To trust your instinct meant that your instincts were really what the force was telling you and to feel and not think it’s to open oneself up to the force and let it Guide one’s actions since the force is the god in Star Wars and what he saying, is essentially the Star Wars equivalent to open oneself to God in the real world.
