Yep. This is how you do activism. We don't want race or gender swapped characters. We want opportunities for people of color to create original content. Hollywood is stirring up issues with Batgirl, Cyclone, and Annabeth in Percy Jackson. I'd like them to give professionals like Issa Rae, Michaela Coel, Misha Green a chance to write some of the existing black heroines instead like Bumblebee, Vixen, Storm etc. however they frame it. Like a arthouse film or Deadpool like commentary.

She had 2 educated parents (who were teachers as well), and being a child star was initially a hobby and passion that her parents supported rather than relied for her to support her family financially. Statistically, the impact of home stability and educated parents has a significant positive impact on a child development and overall success.

Dancing with the stars was also a pivotal point for her. It was her 1st time being introduced to the older generation that didn't follow her fashion moments or disney career. She nearly won the whole thing (got in second place) and LITERALLY shocked everyone (including myself) with her ability to dance in classical styles. Poorly titled. This video doesn't seem to be about how she broke the Disney curse. Should instead be titled, "Why Zendaya is famous." She likely broke the curse because she has a healthy and strong support network, was protected from sexual abuse, and has smart and loving parents. It's a bit insulting to title the video this way, and then list all the reasons Zendaya is famous, like her talent, advocacy, and fashion sense, because it insinuates that the women who weren't able to break the curse lacked those qualities. Zendaya is an impressive woman, but no one is an island, and her success is as much a testament to her abilities as it is to the healthy support network she has surrounding her.

It all comes down to their foundation. On whether their parents, guardians, etc want to support their dreams or just to EXPLOIT THEM. That's very clear if you look at Zendaya's co-star Bella. They starred in the same show, at the same age, were in the same spotlight, both super talented, yet Bella just went off the rails. The difference is she was her family's breadwinner, supporting them all, a CASH COW( &This is sadly, what I now see with Milly bobby brown). I loved her on Shake it Up and preferred Rocky to Cece and I think it's because of Zendaya. She was always sweet and authentic. She has good energy, and that shines through. People gravitate toward positive energy. I also like how she understood that she needed to prove herself in serious roles and she understood that people were doubtful because they hadn't seen her in them yet. That shows A LOT of emotional maturity that many stars and influencers lack. It reminded me of the interview where Dolly Parton praised Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," when Dolly was asked if she was mad because it was originally her song and Dolly praised it, and said Whitney made the song her own, not just different, but better than her version when it came out. We can all learn a thing or two from Zendaya about emotional maturity and how to react.

I think alot of it seemed to be bc of her support system. In old videos, her family and her relationship with them has been protective, but very loving. Everyone in the comments is like "Because she had good parents" or "Because she's got pure talent" and don't even get me started on "Because she's a good person!". I have no doubt in my mind that all of these are true, but here's what I think: She was lucky. Lucky to have a good support system, lucky she never got into controversies, lucky she was able to get the opportunities and roles she did so she *could* harness her incredible talent. Luck's not a bad thing, but don't think I believe she doesn't work hard either, and she deserves her success. And she's not better than Lindsay Lohan or Miley Cyrus or Bella Thorne because *she never got into drugs* . None of these child stars deserved to go through any of that. They're people who have experienced bad things and deserve support now. This world kinda sucks and so many people suffer in different ways, and i'm sure Zendaya has her problems too. She's human after all. All these child stars are human beings who can break. But they're all different people too so it's weird so to compare them is just weird to me. My point is I think she was fortunate and she deserves all the success she's getting.

Zendaya being biracial has a lot to do with it as well, as there are black female Disney stars who are as talented as her but who didn't get the same opportunities thereafter. There has even been one in particular (who I won't name) who got an opportunity that ended once Zendaya left a project. I guess they didn't want to build the other person up even though, as I said, she is as talented and likable. But she is, however, darker skinned. And for anyone who disagrees, especially if you're non-black, please consult the many, many videos on how colorism works in society and the industry and get educated.

@@darkunicorn1203 The black community revered Halle but she didn't necessarily advocate for more roles in the industry for black women and shouldered the burden of modeling the Hollywood girl. The focus was only on her. She had to have the perfect love life, family life etc. Zendaya learned from this and doesn't want to rep the "acceptable" black girl in movies as this set Halle Berry up to be the only one against herself. She was a model, sex symbol, Bond girl, and although she tried to be a serious actor she failed to be a girls' girl to help keep her career afloat when she aged out and roles went to younger girls.

I think she really expanded her acting ability. Every Disney star, when they act in movies and shows outside of Disney. Their character is all the same. Zendaya really pushed her limits and past her limits to bringing a character to life. Maybe she will only play as a young character because of her youthful look. However she can still bring a character to life, and her modeling career really captures young adults.

As others have said, her strong family background was key, as well as many of the points made in the video. But I think the fact that she took the long view on her career is so important. She created space for the transition from child actor to adult actor. So many young actors try to shock the public into seeing them as an adult and it backfires.

Zendaya. Took. Her. TIME. I was 12 or so when I first saw her on Disney. I didn't hear much of her until now, a decade later. Many young people are such in a rush to become famous(part of it could be from family pressure if the family relies on their acting career) but it's so important for many people to figure themselves out first-- establish values, principles, a good support system, etc-- before they start thinking about getting famous.

I'd say Zendaya's success isn't just her smart choices, and a good supportive family, but timing of her aging and the differences in our attitudes towards child stars nowadays. Child stars have more power over social media to take control of their lives without allowing the tabloids to spend their lives out of control. Back in the day, stars didn't have the voice or the one-on-one connection with fans, that they do now. Staying socially aware and conscious nowadays also earns a person brownie points. You have to know your audience to be successful, and Zendaya played into the "world consciousness" people now expect of those who are famous.

Zandaya was born at a right time and this is the reason for her success. In a politicaly heavy climate where Black pp were fighting for more representation in the media, Zandaya became the hllywood darling that they use as a happy medium compromise: she's poc so she gives that diversity point into every og white girl role she takes (like with that spiderman movie) while being merely only biracial black and lightskin, the preferential that studios and directors love to use for characters that are ment to be unambiguously, 100% black. For some reason no other unambiguously Black actress is taking her spot - or at the very least not without heavy backlash like with Halley Bayley or w/e her name is. Zandaya is where she is bc of the backing from the black community and support from her fans, like as seen in the dreadlocks incident - ig there's really not that many black actors in Disney and Nickelodeon, esp those in main roles and that's why Zann has a bigger fanbase. By herself, she doesn't really seem all that interesting to qualify for a "it girl" title (no offence with all due respect) and it wasn't until her recent role in Euphoria that she showed any comparative acting skills or potential. I haven't really seen the show save for a very small fraction of clips and while she seems more serious and improved in that role, I still think a lot of hype for Euphoria comes from the production team and how cinematic and aesthetically beautiful it was made.
