Margot is so much more than a bombshell. I’m glad many people know that and don’t underestimate her like they did with Marilyn.

Always been a fan of Margot Robbie not because she’s pretty but because she’s so so talented and seems very grounded and intelligent irl. So glad she’s getting the roles that let her true talents shine ✨

She basically escaped it by producing her own movies so she could shift her career. If she had stayed in the constraints of “big Hollywood producers”, she would have been another Megan Fox. She wrote her story.

Could you talk about Robert Pattinson?, his story about how he was treated in Hollywood reminds me a lot of Margo Robie and it's not because he was a bad actor that was typecast as someone without talent it was the fact that he was one of the main characters in a movie aimed at a female audience.

It's crazy to know that Marilyn Monroe's career would literally be like Margot Robbie's if she were born in this time period. MM was a blonde bombshell who was very intelligent, started her own film production company, and tried to take on more serious roles to showcase her acting ability. Sounds familiar, no?

I think her acting chops really set her apart from just being a bombshell. Her acting got progressively much better

She is not about the fame and attention...she wants you to focus on her work. No PR relationships or calling the paparazzi. Also, she is very talented actress

I was so sure she was just going to be known as “The Hot Chick from the Wolf of Wall Street” for the rest of time. I wasn’t rooting for that or anything but you get so used to that over time. Glad to see that didn’t happen.

She is extremely talented and very smart, she clearly plans her career and is very mindful of her choices, but I think she escaped this trap mainly by becoming famous when she did. I am sure many other bombshells of the past were also very mindful and smart, but they weren’t given the opportunities that Margot did, and she only did because she got famous in the last 10 years. The last 10 years have been increasingly better for women in Hollywood, they’ve had more opportunities to talk about their experiences, they are having more opportunities to produce and direct, they are being heard and watched not only as stereotypes, but as complex people, just as men have always been seen.

She’s just like a seriously fantastic actor. Even her super sexy, bombshell or bad girl roles, like on WOWS or even as Harley Quinn, require very obvious acting chops. Accent work, action, comedy timing, playing trauma….. Even if we recognize that suicide squad isn’t a good movie per se, plying Harley is a way bigger more obvious acting challenge than what they’d initially give someone like Megan fox. There have been many super bombshells who has also been considered incredible actresses from the get go, right?? Liz Taylor and Mae West and Grace Kelly…. So While I believe Marilyn Monroe was in fact a great actress, she was always playing “dumb blonde” and typecast. Margot wasn’t. Neither was Liz Taylor. So that’s why they’re “HOLLYWOOD ICONS” as opposed to JUST bombshells.

Even in sexy roles like TWOWS I just knew Margot was going to be star. She really held her own against DiCaprio, especially in the fight scene towards the end of the movie. I’ve been following her career ever since. She’s shown a lot of range already in her career. Her production company has also put out some great projects. Margot escaped the “bombshell” mold because she’s a talented actress, smart and strategic.

Birds of Prey was one of my favourite movies, the personality she brings to a roll is amazing, she is so talented, I am glad she forced Hollywood to get past her looks, I find sometimes looks can overshadow people's legitimate talent.

She was absolutely outstanding in I, Tonya. I was blown away by how raw her performance was. I definitely think she deserved to win the Oscar for that. I can imagine her production company going from strength to strength over the decades to come. I cannot wait to see what else she does.

"Above all, Robbie proves the priceless value of agency." Damn, yes, ain't that the truth! Forget popular, pretty, hot husband, blah, blah, blah. If you can carve out agency and do work that's meaningful to you, that lifts other people up, forms community and meaningful interpersonal relationships, and pays you a liveable wage with enough to put into a solid retirement plan, you've got gold. Agency is everything. It's that feeling you're steering the wheel of your own life.

I was just thinking about this last week after reading Emily Ratajakowski’s book “My Body”. People told her ‘if you want to win an Oscar you have to get ugly’.

I am very curious about the Barbie movie. I've been a collector of Barbie dolls since I was a kid in the 70s, and I've always found Barbie to be progressive and forward-thinking. The tagline in the 80s was "We Girls Can Do Anything", and I certainly always believed that was a simple statement of fact, because it _is._ I always appreciated how Barbie made room for a man in her life, but he was never the focus of all of her energy, and she always had a group of close friends who really were her focus, along with her younger siblings. Barbie wasn't a wife and mother, she was a friend, a sister, a girlfriend, and a PROFESSIONAL. She had her own life, that wasn't about her man or her children.

What about Theron and Jolie??? They also avoided it in their own rights

Because her acting is more than her looks. She's incredible

i think she takes calculated risks like those in the auditions which makes her stand out kind of reminds me of halle berry. shes also a phenomenal actor and her acting trajectory is going very similar to charlize theron's career which is a huge compliment. shes also not a lot on social media which makes her more of a traditional a list celebrity

I had no idea about how many projects Robbie was behind. Besides her excellent acting I'm so excited to dig into her other projects.

Margot is not ashamed to show her full acting talent and intelligence. And be who she is to boot! That's why she's so successful and admired 👍👍👍👍❗

I'm glad that Margot and Megan are getting the respect they deserve. If there's one older actress I can think of who, while she wasn't considered a "bombshell," but did escape the "sexy woman" trap, and that is Anne Bancroft. She proved to everybody that she could be taken seriously as a dramatic actress and didn't just take on roles that were only beautiful or sexy. The Miracle Worker is the most remarkable example of that. ADD ON: She also was one of the few women of her time to write, produce and direct her own movie, Fatso. She was also one of the first graduates of the women directors group at AFI. I'm glad to see Margot continue in the footsteps of Anne, Barbara, Ava, and Sofia

I would love to see her produce a full Sharon Tate biopic. Debra Tate (her sister) was so impressed with her performance in OUATIH that she's said Robbie is the one and only actor she'd want for the part. I could absolutely see a biopic with Margot completely shifting audience's perception of Tate from "Sexpot" (as she was described in newspaper articles after her death) to "HUMAN".

The Take, I love what you guys are doing. Could you please do a video on this topic? The Pregnant Woman trope in horror movies, such as: Women getting impregnated by aliens. Women turning into bloated hives for alien reproduction. A woman giving birth to a demonic child. A woman carrying a baby for an evil cult. Even men getting impregnated by an otherworldly seductress. Misogynist, sexist, rape culture, shock value or just pushing a fear of aliens and demons? Is it possible to make a good horror/sci-fi movie without resorting to otherworldly beings impregnating women? Is it possible to make a story arc where the woman that was impregnated, is recovering from this mental scarring? Alien vs Predator: Requiem and Slither are all levels of wrong.

I think she's the rare person that Hollywood has tried to make happen that has actually, to some degree, happened. I mean, she's not a star such that she will guarantee box office success, but nobody is anymore. Nobody looks at her and wonders why the powers-that-be are trying to foist her on us. It's more like, yeah, she's good-looking, but she's also a very apt performer.

Yeah, I like her a lot. She comes across really intelligent & engaging, and seems like she has a strong sense of self.

I feel like a big part of her not being torn down like the others is also heavily because, since the 2000s, the quality of mainstream movies have greatly increased. while I love me some confessions of a teenage drama queen, the standard of acting and collaborative art in general is no where near as good as the mainstream movies of the 2010s, and Margot's Wolf of Wall Street or About Time or The Big Short. This may also be the reason that, rather than misogynistically tearing down every new female actor (or pop star), people enjoy tearing down Influencers instead now.

Margot Robbie escaped the trap because The Wolf of Wall Street was a prestige film. She wasn't just a hot blonde from that movie, she was THE hot blonde from that movie with 5 Oscar nominations. It established her as not just someone who could act but someone who held her own in a Scorsese movie against DiCaprio. Sadly for Megan Fox, she couldn't break out because all her roles were in big-budget popcorn movies.

I was ready to agree with Jim Carrey there for a sec: Robbie's accomplishments seem a little less impressive when you consider the sort of power she commands by virtue of her physical appearance. But this was a pretty solid analysis of how she's used that in conjunction with her social awareness and focus on lifting up female voices for their own sake. Where Brie Larson was (unjustifiably) lambasted for telling on the white, male centered sphere of entertainment, Robbie makes room for and tells good stories, letting them speak for themselves.

I love that Megan Fox is getting her flowers now, as she should. I definitely think Margot opened the doors for previous bombshells like Megan and Marilyn, who are now getting so much love.

I am so glad that "The Take" acknowledged Margot Robbie. I first saw her in WOWS and liked that her character had a working brain and was no empty-headed bimbo. She impressed with her work on and off screen with I, Tanya. From there I just had so much respect for her genuinely entertaining, women-centered projects. I'm so glad she is such a success.

It could be interesting to continue with a video about Mary Elizabeth Winstead! She was criticized for not being sexy enough in the Birds of Prey movie by some male critics and I think her career would be interesting to cover! She's embraced this badass stereotype in her latest projects.

Could make a video about Milla Jovovich. She had a successful female led billion dollar franchise at a time when something like that was rare. With all hype about female led blockbusters and franchises these days like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel and the rest but her contribution and her billion dollar franchise seems to always get overlooked in the discussion. She's never given her respect and her flowers, which is very sad.

Her company is producing great stuff. Cant wait for more. Also, Birds of Prey was amazing.

Honestly, she is an icon AND it’s clear that Hollywood gives you a narrative and will control you in any way. Im so happy that she did her own thing right from the start! Yes, she is beautiful and sexy but F that! The woman is extremely smart and talented! If SHE did not make her OWN way, she would’ve ended up being used. I’m so happy that women like her exist and that she had the courage to taking charge in her career. She did an amazing job in birds of prey, I love Harley in that. I felt like I was actually watching Harley from the 90's cartoon rather than her overly sexualize comic persona.

One thing that fascinates me about Robbie is that she is very expressive with her face. Even in everyday life, she's not afraid to wrinkle her forehead or smile a huge smile. A lot of beautiful women (look at Kim K) barely show any expression, afraid they might encourage a wrinkle or laugh line. I get that there is pressure to be youthful in Hollywood, so I don't blame them, but what it comes down to is she's very talented and smart, and she isn't afraid to mess up her beautiful face.

Her work to rebrand really worked. I never saw wolf of Wall Street/the media commentary on her, so only associated her with I,Tonya and other roles. So I always assumed she was considered a “serious actress” in Hollywood vs “just” a bombshell. Hopefully we can get to a point where actresses don’t have to purposely make their own projects to be taken seriously. These molds (“serious” or “bombshell”) seems so 2 decades ago.

This is a kinda live by the sword die by the sword type of situation. Lots of women AND men use sex appeal to get into the door. But it's the talent that will (usually) *KEEP* you in the door, otherwise, it'll kill your career. Brad Pitt was basically male Margot Robbie.

Yikes. Disappointing how many people in the comments are being disparaging to other women like Megan and Marilyn.

I think honestly the thing that made her sidestep being a bombshell is that she has done nudity in movies. So much of the bombshell is teasing and comes across to the audience as an insulting and kind of proof that they are only famous because of their looks and teasing sex. Robbie basically did what Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren have done which is making them being nude in a film is not what makes you come to see them in the movie in fact it is the least interesting aspect of the film.

At this point anything comming out of Lucky Chap it on my to-watch-list. I didn't know Maid was also from there. I used to work as a house cleaner, that was the first time I ever saw someone with that job dipicted as a person, a full, complicated person with a life and where the cleaning job wasn't a failure but a way to survive.

i didn't notice her until I, Tonya. i had no idea of her journey. she's doing what M Monroe so deeply wanted =) actually i didn't see her as a thing in OUATIH, that movie was like a love letter to Sharon Tate, she looked so sweet in the cinema scene.

How she did it? By having actual talent, being a hard worker, dressing modestly at appropriate times, being intelligent, being polite, being respectful of others as well as of herself, taking control of her career by branching out beyond just acting, etc. Megan Fox should take notes.

The career options Margot has created for herself feel like the options I wish Marilyn Monroe should have had if the times had been different. Monroe was equally an excellent complex actress.

And apparently, I wasn't alone. 4:25 When my friend later invited me to see I Tonya, I initially shrugged it off because I still thought of her as a bombshell that probably can't act. Boy was I wrong. And every movie I've seen of her since has only proven to me further how wrong my initial understanding of her was. Margot may very well be beautiful, but that's just one aspect of a person. I actually felt proud of her in I Tonya. She’s extremely smart on how she’s played it out… she performs well, gets opportunities, choices good roles that are not just the “blond bombshell” and she defies expectations. She is extremely talented as an actress, I don’t think that Megan Fox is/could ever be of that level that’s why she’s stuck in those type of roles, plus unfortunately most of the things she’s done since Transformers have flopped.

Really admire Margot Robbie’s drive (ambition hand & hardworking) & being able to push through that ‘Bombshell’ typecasting she could of got stuck in. She has used it to her advantage. She seems very grounded, very resourceful and must have been good with her finances too. I think having a supportive team (of friends and management) who actually care for her vs just wanting fame/make money off her talents is helpful.

The only thing missing from Margot for me is she is such a people pleaser. She’s received so much widespread praise for never speaking out or standing up for anything…ever - Which is fine until she admits to being afraid to call herself a feminist… I’d love to see her have REAL confidence, not just charm or humor.

Also her roles seem to call attention to the bombshell persona. Just absolutely love the scene in The Big Short where they call this out, but also use it to explain some really boring, but extremely important things.
