*_IMPORTANT NOTE : Please read before commenting_* In this video I use the method of cutting off the slats. At the time I recorded this video this was the quickest and easiest method to removing them, however in more recent years I have found better ways of getting them off intact, such as the boil and pop method, which you can see in the below video : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-socv4kwkdWA.html

Thanks for the video, very helpful! But I was just wondering, how would you go about removing the dome lamps?

Personally I wouldn’t, they CAN be removed, but it's VERY hard to do without breaking them. I would suggest masking them off before painting as it's far simpler, or just taking care to paint around them, but if you’re planning on replacing them then I’d just cut them off, but obviously that’s only a one way option

I have a Remembrance Supreme which was not assembled properly in the neck. I tried to remove the base and unfortunately one of the screws would not budge and is now stripped. Any suggestions?

You COULD try the old trick and putting blu-tack over the stripped screw and then try undoing it but if it's completely stripped bare then drilling it out is the only real option

Have you taken a supreme dalek apart? I have an rc one and a standard.. trying to swap heads as rc no longer works..

I haven't but it is one I might do in future, however it won't be an RC one, just a standard version

So are the gun and plunger glued in or just a tight fit? And if it is the latter, do they remain so if you pull them out and put them back in multiple times?

They're aren't glued in, they just pop in and out. As for wear over time I've not idea as I don't generally keeping taking them in and out but as with anything they'll probably get weaker/brittle over times

Ah ok, and also, what about the eyes? The later ones were not removable I thought, am I right there?

Well I know people have been able to remove them but I've never bothered as it is very tricky and difficult

I am trying to dismantle a classic dalek supreme but the neck rings are different HELP !!

Unfortunately without having the exact Dalek to hand or seeing it then I can't really advise but all the classic Daleks I've ever taken apart are generally the same as (as far as I'm aware) the neck rings all use the same tooling so I'm not really sure how they'd be different

@@CaptainJimiPie Thanks for the reply, I managed to release the rings using 2 small flat bladed screwdrivers, also managed to get the slats off the same way, just gentle levering till they slid off so no cutting :-)

No worries, and it is much better to pry the slats off or use the boil and pop method to loosen them, at the time I recorded this video cutting them was just the easiest way to do it

I have a question regarding the Saucer Pilot Dalek. Is it possible, once the base is off the Dalek and the larger and smaller halves are separate, to only reattach the smaller half and make it more akin to a Dead Planet style Dalek?

Yes it is possible, it's basically the same mould as the smaller base, found on normal Dead Planet Daleks however it obviously doesn't have any wheels on it and I don't think the wheels on the large base fit, so you would either need to display it without them or get some spare

Jimi, when i was disassembling my classic Dalek, with a hairdryer I heated up the slats around the midsection and with a little pulling they came off. (So I didn't have to cut in them...)

There are many different ways of doing it, the hairdryer method is actually the more risky as because of the heat you risk melting and warping the plastic and you're better off using the boil and pop method. Nowadays I tend to use that method to get them off but when I made this video almost 5 year ago I was still very much starting out so I was using the most simple and easy methods available to me at the time with my limited knowledge

hi cpt, i have a voice control dalek that walked off a shelf and now the eye stalk will not elevate i want to fit the tcb (tank control board ) from hobbyking in it or at least repair it can you show me how to dismantle it to do so

If you mean the 18" ones then I do have several however I am reluctant to take any apart as some are now delicate customs and I don't want to risk breaking the ones that still fully work, plus electronics and things like that aren't my area of expertise so it's not really something I could do an instructional video on, sorry. Unfortunately the domes and eyestalks are notorious for breaking in those Daleks, hence why they have never been reproduced

Is it possible to remove the wheels part of the base but not the base it's elf to make a screen accarot chase gard dalek

Sorry I don't really understand what you mean? You can take the wheels off the base but to do that you have to take the base off as the screw to remove them are inside the base. Besides if you wanted a screen accurate chase guard then it would have to remove the base anyway as they don't have bases at all

+ikelvo I don't have a video of putting them back together but I just basically do the reverse of taking them apart, I'm not sure how you're putting the gun part back in but the way I do is is to fit it into one of the two halves of the main body and then put the other side on too, if you watch some of my other dalek custom videos you'll see what I mean :)

+CaptainJimiPie yep I was able to do it, but I broke my painted dalek with that stupid under white paint stuff. Made my a Dalek under coat way to thick. Defo need to use primer for me. Lol

ikelvo Fair enough, don't worry if your first few goes at customs don't turn out exactly how you wanted, it really does take practice and with practice you will get better, I look back and some of my early customs compared to my newer ones and I can really see the difference :)

+CaptainJimiPie I was Defo happy with my first paint job :) but I should of practised takin them apart and put them. Back together. I just did that twise after I messed my first dalek up. I came to realise that the 3 collar circles and the 3 black circle things for the daleks neck are different sizes. So I was like how the hell do these fit back in. Got it all sorted now tho and I will start painting my second attempt dalek once this primer gets here lol. I got 6 daleks so I can get the hang of this :p

Before I do this, is there a way I can reassemble the base of the pilot dalek or were the two parts glued on and need to be glued back together?

+Lenny Da scrub They're not glued and in my experience they can just be fired back together, just as long as you're careful not to break the pegs holding them together when you take the bases apart

ok, ive got it so that these sides will come off... but i aint doin this dalek, im doin the one thats in the picture, the gold one, it has like a circle shirt, which stops the dalek spliting into 2 peices? what should i do here?

hey mate, is it a good idea to use white primer instead of a white paint coat. primer makes a small layer of paint, and then you paint over it, the paint i used has made the dalek a mm bigger and hard to fit back into place.

primer does make sense... i will try it. wish i knew which paints are best tho. i have plastic model paints, and some are fine, then others are water, in the same package, wish they was all thick paints

Just the video I needed, I have a dead planet Dalek that has an eyestalk for the chase daleks and conviently I have 2 chase daleks that have the dead planet eyestalk my ocd makes me wanna swap them bad lol but thanks for the video hope It's easier than it looks lol

Yeah worked out well apart form losing a screw cheers bud, btw just thought I'd ask when it comes to customizing daleks what paint would you recommend? I plan on painting a saucer pilot into a supreme Dalek as it's impossible to find now, I'm just clueless when it comes to paint

It's entirely up to you what pain to use, there's no right or wrong way to make customs, it's all down to personal preference, so my best recommendations is find out what works best for you. What someone else does might not be what you find easiest to work with

If you mean the eyestalk then it's in the video, if you mean the two lights in the head then normally I don't bother removing them, just clip them off however with very careful easing out they can be removed

I will have to do this to my newly unboxed Renegade Supreme Dalek because some idiot at the factory did a terribly job at aligning the mesh area properly in the neck, as the supports clearly do not line up and are in fact on in the wrong order. So I will have to take it upon myself to fix it. Im assuming that the process for reassembly is just this in reverse?

Pretty much with the exceptions of the obvious bits which have been cut but if done properly they can be realigned as the cut is pretty much invisible to the distant eye

CaptainJimiPie Having some trouble getting the front right screw of the base undone. I don't want to mutilate the screw any further, what should I do?

Well if the screw has already warped then there's not really much that can be done short of drilling out the screw but this means you can't fit a new one easily when you put it back together. Well taking anything apart it's just a matter of taking care and doing it carefully using the right kind/size of screwdriver to start.

I used a proper sized screw driver, I think the problem was that the screw was in too tight, because it wouldn't turn at all and I treated it the same as the other 3. I have some tricks to try out though on how to get out stripped screws though, like something to do with a rubber band.
