A Howard 500 departing Oshkosh 2021. The sound this luxurious twin makes is simply gorgeous!
Though the Howard 500 looks a bit like a Lockheed Lodestar, it's a 100% unique design, using only certain components from the Lodestar. It could accommodate 10 to 14 passengers. The engine used was a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 that had been developed for the Douglas DC-6. Propeller hubs were taken from F4U Corsairs, four-blade propellers and spinners from DC-7s. By the time it was introduced in the 60s, it was a dinosaur, as turboprops and jets started taking over the executive aircraft market.
