Howard Combo Organ (Baldwin / Vox Jaguar related) 

I had one years ago with a Baldwin "Exterminator" amp . I loved it. The only issue I had with it was the contacts would get dirty quickly. I used to carry a small paint brush and bottle of alcohol in case I needed to clean them when they would quit on me in the middle of a gig. I would say mine was a 1966-67 vintage. Memories!

Hey Bob! I have one of these. There are separate outputs in the back for the Bass and the Treble keys. I noticed on mine when I plug the Bass and the Treble into separate inputs into my board, it makes a world of a difference. You can really crank the Bass section and the Volume knobs for the Bass and Treble have so much more mixing control. If you just use the one output, as it appears you guys are doing, the Bass just doesn't get loud enough. Just throwing my 2 cents in...great video and such a cool, classic, and very rare organ!

It may be that the bass buss bar touches the treble buss bar, that's why the treble tones leak in the bass section. Easy repair.

@tonyrbutler No, the Howard doesn't need the volume pedal to work (as you can see in the video) BUT if it DOES power up and is silent then it's a broken wire. As this organ (like the Vox Jaguar) doesn't have a preamp, the issue of non-working transistors in the preamp circuit is ruled out. My best guess would be that it's just an audio signal carrying wire or power supply lead to the tone generators that's disconnected. These keyboards are very easy to repair. $50 is a deal IMO

@tonyrbutler BUT the worst case scenario would be a failing power supply. Again, it's not that much of a difficult repair. The schematics are amazingly simple. Do you tweak with electronics a bit? Do you have a soldering iron?

@KNRTVStudio510 That's my G101. I bought it a few years ago from a fellow in Wisconsin or Minnesota... trying to recall. Anyway it needs some of the black rubber trim still! The lid has it and I did mass restoration work on it. It was pretty beaten up. But it's a pretty nice machine now.

Have one of these Howards. All the D keys make the same crunchy sound that keys on my Vox Continental make when the biasing is off. I opened the thing up thinking the cards would be similar enough, but I guess the Jag cards don't have bias pots. Know any ways to adjust the bias on these things or do you suspect it's a different problem?

Where could I find a working power chord for one of these? I have one in fairly good condition but I lost the power chord in a move a few years back.

@mewrth The Howard Custom has the lid, 3 legs & music stand, all look to be in good condition. I didn't see a volume pedal and of course, the organ doesn't work. It powers up but no sound. The guy that has it doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed though so possibly he doesn't know how to hook it up right. I'm going on his word that it doesn't work as I didn't try it myself. Does it need the volume pedal to work??

@mewrth I'm on the road for a few weeks still. Check power supply voltages ..should be a ground a voltage present on some pin of cards of course. I can't recall the details though on that one without looking at one again. If power is there then you should be getting some oscillations on some of the cards at least. So then are they getting past the keyboard buss(es)? Same old...use a listening probe if you don't have scope. Is it getting past tone filters? then check volume connections...
