Hedy Lamarr was not buried. She was cremated. Reportedly, one of her sons spread her ashes in her native country of Austria. There is a memorial marker in the Central Cemetery in Vienna, Austria.
Howard Hughes helped Preston Tucker get the engines for his cars. My Dad worked for Tucker and I grew up hearing all about the cars. My Dad even helped with the movie, Tucker, the Man and His Dream. In the movie it shows the 2 men meeting and HH telling Preston where to get his engines. The Spruce Goose even has a cameo in the movie.
Re: the lion statue grave of Lester Harold Smith....he made his money in oil and was a huge philanthropist, donating to hospitals and education. He suffered 3 rounds of cancer and a double lung transplant. His self eulogy is on-line and which reflects his humor and life outlook.
When I was a kid, I was fascinated with Howard Hughes. As were most people in the US. He was in the news pretty frequently. I am very sorry his severe Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder finally took control of him. My mom had the same, and compared herself to Howard. However, mom learned to control it enough to have a relatively normal life. Things she could not do, my sister and I helped her with. We saw the movie about Howard, The Aviator, which showed how badly he suffered. Mom said she recognized herself in the movie. Thank you for remembering Howard, and the wonderful way you talked about his life story.
Another great opening scene! The entrance to the cemetery was brilliant! I'm impressed with your ability to walk, talk, and film without falling !!!!! ** Giant Lion Monument ** Lester Smith - Houston Multi-Millionsire Philanthropist Thank you for great content!
Those eyes. 👁 👁 Those wings! I'm talking about the 2nd Michael statue. That was amazing! One of the nicest most well maintained Cemetaries I've ever seen. Remember it from the live walk. I saw the Spruce Goose in person. When it was in, I think, Long Beach, California. MASSIVE! He just HAD to over do it I guess. 🤷♀️ He always had such an intriguing sounding life. He was really messed up at the end. I also remember the mysterious will brought forth by Melvin Dummer. It got ALOT of attention around here. I think there were many wills though. Everyone wanting the Hughes fortune. I hope Howard and his parents have all found peace. 🙏 Thanks Ron! 😊
Hi, Ron!! I loved this! Oh, my gosh.. I was an Eastern Airlines flight attendant from 1984 until it went out of business. Then went to American Airlines. We used to see Howard Hughes’ airline when passing through Texas at Eastern. The planes were yellow so pilots always called them the yellow banana. I had done a report on him in junior high. I wrote how he had long nails and toenails. He refused to cut them. He was handsome once upon a time, but he became not handsome later in life. This video was amazing, Ron!! Thank you so much!!
12:09 wow!!! The way the statuary holds up in Texas in comparison to Chicago is absolutely stunning and amazing. That entire cemetery is pristine. Amazing video as usual. ❤ Kendra
Hi Ron, Hedy Lamarr is buried in Vienna Cental Cemetery, part of her ashes. The rest of the ashes are in the Vienna woods, request from her son. Hope this helps.
Great intro music and aerial shots, Ron. I have always found the story of Howard Hughes so intriguing and interesting. Thanks for bringing this story to us.
Ron your intro into Glenwood was really great and the music was spot on!! Back in 1991 I was lucky enough to visit the Spruce Goose in Long Beach Ca. while living in Southern, Cali .( before they moved it) My Dad was a pilot WW2 and aeronautics engineer & they wanted my Dad to work for them, he did not. Funny, years later my husband would end up working for Hughes Aviation, in NJ.@ McGuire AFB. thank you for telling his story, so interesting, what a life !!🙏 Ron make sure you go to Oregon see it one day!😄👍
Hi Ron from Arizona! I enjoyed the story about Howard Hughes. In his own strange and unique way he established a contribution to history. The cemetery has exquisite statues.
Hi Ron. Loved this. The Halloween after he died,1976)junior year. We got to dress up at school. My mom had this black dress, From the 50’s. The top was velvet with fake diamonds around the neck with a full satin skirt. Heels and purse with white gloves. I was Howard Hughes. Widow. My teachers loved it. I brought back some memories. He was very interesting to read about. I did a paper on him in high school about interesting people. Enjoyed this as always. You tell great stories!!🙏👣🙌❤️
Hi Ron just finished watching your video at the cape creek cemetery ,lovely to see you found little Adrian fry’s grave ,now onto the Howard Hughe video.👋👋👏👏👍🇦🇺
Another tasteful video and this one makes me want to read about Howard Hughes. The music chosen brings us back in time. The man died lonely and alone but lived an exciting life before his accident. At the end; living with his memories. It's too bad we didn't experience the potential of other great things he could have done. I'm surprised his grave site did not have anything aviation in/on it. Those tall figures in the back wall looked like flower lamps that maybe shone upwards into the arches? I guess we'll see everything when the renovations are finished? I wish you a great day 🙂
Sitting on my sofa watching the aviator for umpteenth time & decided to look up his grave & this Video tops all previous ones... You did an excellent job & were indeed respectful & informative! I Love every Video of yours thst I've seen! I dont comment often & for this one I'm grateful!
Good day, Ron, I would love your sky miles. 🙂❤️🙂 I absolutely loved this one and the introduction music was perfect. Thank you for this treat. Continued Blessings....
Awsome as always Ron. You aced this story also. The angels are beautiful and the lion is stunning... So sad about Howard Hughes,, we will never know what else he would of came up with.. If we only would of had medicine for him, he could of went beyond the stars.
Very interesting! I have always felt sorry for Mr. Hughes, I always wonder if medication could have helped him. So sad his life was so horrible for him! Thank you Ron for the story!
Another great adventure. Never really took the time to read up on Mr. Hughes. Your telling the story showed what a remarkable and creative genius he was.
I remember my aunt told me a couple of years after he died, that because of his injuries after those plane crashes, he became obsessed with cleanliness because of the potential for infection and it just became obsessive. On another matter, as owner of RKO Pictures, he designed an undergarment for Jane Russell although she was not happy with it in the film- so she never wore it but they were great friends- but not lovers. Another interesting episode about a titanic figure whose achievements were somewhat eclipsed by his notoriety as the world's most famous recluse. It's very sad but it does not take away from his triumphs.
I was living in Las Vegas, Nv, in 1976, as a young teenager when Hughes died. Right after he died, the local newspaper, the Las Vegas Sun there wrote up a large article about his life, and mentioned he lived in one of the penthouses at one time near the top of Desert Inn hotel for 4 yrs, and had Mormon aides who helped him. If I remember correctly, he was in Mexico, and was having health problems. He was flown on a private jet from Mexico to the states for emergency care and died enroute. After I wrote this, you confirmed this fact in your video, so I remembered this correctly. It was theorized that due to the plane crash he was in, test flying the XF11 that he barely survived, it messed up his mind to where he was never the same again. Hughes had amassed a fortune worth over 2 billion dollars. He was one bright cookie, but unfortunately went into a severe decline near the end of his life.
This was amazing. I really enjoyed this. I was 20 years old the year he died. He really needed help and I wish that he had been able to get it. His life would have been happier. Money can do so much good or it can keep good from being done. He must have always been so fearful. Very sad. What a brilliant gentleman.
You did a great job on the history of Howard Hughes. I loved the music too! My parents met and married in the 40's and that was their music! Mr Hughes has quite a unique plot but it reminded me of Elvis's plot with his parents and twin brother.
Great story, nice touch you added that song in the beginning, takes you back to the old days. How did it feel standing on his grave? You always make great videos, thank you🫶👏👍safe travels.
Evening Ron, just finishing off your vedio, was very intrigued by your walk thru this cemetery. Having to say you do your research well was fascinated about Howard's life he indeed was a lady's man. Just imagining all those women he danced the night away with more fun lol. Didn't expect to see his burial area that simply. Well to him he problem like it that way with a gated fence and his parents next to him. Really no one really needs any fancy burial ground unless they request it. Know mine is gonna be simple cremated and rest of my ashes thrown on my parents grave at Mount Carmel. No use saving my ashes on a shelf that will collect more dust. 😆
Very enjoyable Ron, from the opening drone shots and great music, to the story of a complicated man, Howard Hughes. Always makes me wonder about the fine line between genius and madness. There's a price to be paid perhaps when someone is blessed with this kind of brilliance . Great work and research on this, thank you Ron!!
This video was very interesting..I never knew so much about Howard , the music was beautiful ,loved the drone wow ..you are a great story teller . Thank you so much
One of the perks of honeymooning on the Queen Mary many moons ago was being able to see the Spruce Goose. I'm not really into planes or flying but it was really impressive.
I dont live to far from McMinnville when you make it to Oregon some day keep me in mind I'd like to meet you in person Ron. I have seen the spruce goose a few times. It's really huge.
Very well kept cemetery and the statues and monuments are magnificent. I especially liked the one of the sleeping lion. Thank you Ron for always sharing your knowledge with us. 👍👍
Another good one Ron you are so good about checking these out so interesting about who he was in life Rip to him and his parents Loved it Thanks Ron Take care on your journey s
Great video Ron about howard Hughes and his life...very interesting and I enjoyed as.always you do a good job and it shows too ..Rip Howard Hughes 🙏😇... safe travels Ron... take care and be safe !! 💕💕... statues are beautiful
Thanks Trina, I am definitely going to do that someday. I totally missed the boat when it was in Long Beach and it would’ve been easy to see but I think the exhibit in Oregon is much more extensive, set up better
My prom in 1988 was inside the dome where the Sproose goose is in Long Beach, was very cool, everyone in line to go in the craft, with the band in the background oh memories💃🏽🕺🏻
I visited that grave area in 1980 it has been redone or something. Another person in the Houston area you might look into is “Red Adair”. The John Wayne movie the Hellfighters was based on. He pulled up beside me in a red Mercedes convertible and I recognized him from his AMEX commercials, I mentioned I would like a hat he told to met him at his office the next morning.
I am here in upstate NY in the beautiful Mohawk Valley in a blizzard ,,we are expecting 18 inches of snow ⛄️..I am jealous of the warm weather there in Texas ..
My Dad and I toured the Spruce Goose when I was 15 back in the late 80’s in CA. I still have all my Polaroid photos I took. It was really impressive to see in person.
A very fitting intro with the drone Ron! Loved it! If you come back to here to visit western New York, you should visit the grave of Glen Curtiss, along with the Curtiss Museum.
