Fairground scenes were shot in Littlehampton, Sussex. I remember as a young teenager I cycled there from Worthing to watch it. Met the man himself- I was awestruck
Love love love this song...dedicated to my dear father who was always so overprotective of his only daughter! Lol. He's since passed and I miss him every day 😇😇😇😇
Props to you! You're one of the few in this generation that appreciates music with meaningful, understandable lyrics! (I'm 20 btw, been a fan of 80s stuff for probably over half my life when I think about it.) Consider checking out some of my playlists here on RU-vid because I've saved a lot of my favorite musicians' music. Would be nice to be friends with another young person with the same interests as me!
Awesome! This was from his 1985 album Dream Into Action. I was 17 and that was about the time I started buying albums instead of just singles - but I was such a big HoJo fan that I bought his 12" singles too!
hey paul Heatley. ..same here...read your comment and thought...hey.. i was 15 in 1985 so that means your 47 cause im 45...reason for the reply is up to age 21 was the best years of my life and i think about those years alot and wish i could go back. ..just curious do you do the same?
togoulo02 It's funny - one big thing I remember from 1985 was Boris Becker winning Wimbledon. He was my age, 17, and I thought 'Well, I guess I'm never going to win Wimbledon!" Not that I was ever any good at tennis. I was just starting to find myself and figure out what I was good at. Howard Jones had a positive message about being yourself, following your dreams and making your own mistakes along the way - so that was very inspiring.
I've just noticed something. It says at the start of the video that the release date was 20th April 1985,which was a Saturday. Yet four days earlier on 16th April, back in the days when the new Top 40 singles chart was first unveiled at lunchtime on a Tuesday (until September 1987),this song crashed straight in at number 20,beating the Simple Minds' anthemic Don't You Forget About Me to highest new entry by a couple of places. Pre-orders or time travel magic? The following week both songs broke into the Top 10.
Dear. HOWARD. JONES. Hi what up . I got big crush on you . I want to marry you. I alone home. I am crying in bed everine night. I WISH COME UP TO NEW YORK. AND STAY WITH ME SO I Wil Make me happy. I even feel really sad could about you.
I had a poster of Howard wearing his _Look Mama_ video clothes! I just saw the film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" where the sampled quote comes from. That's why I am here! ❤♥
when my mum was alive i used to dedicate this song as she was the sort of mum that howard describes. she was soo over protected that i can just relate to the song. now i calls it look father.
My mum still alive and she's just like that so I had to tell her I'm a grownup that dont need her supervision. But of course she has been and will be my support when she or i need it.
Literally since 1985 I've wanted every iteration of the chorus to have the synth resolution at 1:13, but that's the ONLY time he does it in the whole song! I can't believe I've obsessed about this for nearly 40 years now... 🤯
Howard Jones was one of my favourite artists of the 80’s with a lot of great songs including this one. This song is an anthem for my daughter who at 22 I’m still very protective of and find it hard to let go. I have to let her make her own mistakes. The parenting doesn’t stop once they become adults but is just as hard. A great anthem song for mothers everywhere.
The opening dialogue sampled here between a mother and her son is from the last scene in the movie from 1972, Alice doesn’t live here anymore. You’re welcome.
I was just watching the movie Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and the last few lines in the movie caught my attention. I had heard them before. I knew right away it was Howard Jones song. took me a few tries to figure out which one. But it's this one. Finally, after about 35 years I know what the first few lines in the song are from. I wonder why they were chosen.
Sorry to hear that. Hope you're OK now. I had, still have, wonderful parents who let me be me but were always there for me but I know not everyone's so lucky. I could talk about anything with them,my mum especially, and she's such a warm person, she still gave me cuddles into my late teens. I didn't fly the nest until well into my 20s and several years after this song was a hit.
Not only is this a unique classic it deserves a lot more views than this The extended version is hell yeah The bumper cars in the video to this always wondered if it had a connection to supergirl 1984 as new song and what is love is in it but not this song But there was a bumper car scene in supergirl just thought weird coinsidence
I still love all of these 80s hits today but what on earth was going on in the hair department back then? Lol I think there must have been a puddle of water near those keyboards which must then have short circuited and made the hair stand on end lol! :-D
The first time I Heard this song was in 1985 when Mrs Dorothy 😮 Castrishion was mind my brothers Joel Michael and I whilst my father Izzy Beder want away to Rio
Japanese&English righting 日英同時書き込み Howard Jones's Look Mama. Judging from the content of the song, I wonder if she misses her mother. ハワードジョーンズの、ルックママ。曲の内容から察して、母が恋しいのかな。
