Thanks for another informative video. Just for clarity, sub 1GHz is not WiFi. It is a proprietary RF protocol, at a frequency that can yield better range for low-speed communications like what a microinverter would need. I see these units are offered in either Wifi or Sub GHz - definitely go with the sub GHz model. And yes, your points about a metal roof are valid - PLC (power line communication) like enphase and Solar Edge use would be preferred for those installs.

Thanks for the clarification on that. I hope others see this comment as well. 👆👆👆👆

As a 4 year solar installer in Texas with experience in Enphase, Solar Edge, and Sunpower systems I am very interested in installing the hoymiles products. Love the ability to have such a large string size and stackable micros. Seems to be like a future game changer for other solar products on the market. I am highly interested in this tech and I’m waiting for one of these installs to come in the future for me and get some hands on with them!

If Im understanding you correctly, I could put 4 panels on one of the 4-in-1 Micro, come down off the roof into the AC Disconnect ( for grid tie, for the utility to be able to lock it out de-energized), and from there go right into my breaker box? I have installed my own system using Enphase micro inverters, and Id like to install a new system on my rental property. I like Enphase, but it seems Hoymile is way more cost effective.

It’s a lot less expensive when you use the 2-1 and 4-1 micros. It also doesn’t force you to use a ton of overpriced proprietary components like Enphase does. You can use any combiner box rather than some $600 cheap plastic Enphase envoy that requires the most current versions to be used without any sort of backwards compatibility. Enphase makes a great product no doubt, but it’s waayyy overpriced and their monitoring platform is hot trash and super buggy.

@@MrSiah007 I agree 100% with all of this. I have 13 enphase Micro's on my roof and the monitoring gives me trouble from time to time. The Combiner box was an astonishing 1200 bucks, which is INSANE. If I put panels on my rental unit Ill be seriously considering Hoymiles

thanks for the playlist on the hoymiles. the comms issue though made me limp. i installed a standing seam metal roof last year. sounds like hoymiles isn't a trouble-free option for me. the last thing i want is to put all this great gear on my roof and then have trouble provisioning and monitoring.

Specs sounds good, but question is reliability. These are pretty new - hard to gauge how they will hold up over time. Conversely, enphase has progressed through many generations of microinverters - improving at each revision. Just hard to predict reliability with these new micros. Warranty they can basically say anything (and offer replacements), but if these don't hold up, you still will be spending a lot of time and labor. Just no data in that regard to reliability at this point.

I just read over the policy for the US and I don’t see any labor reimbursement like SolarEdge has. I was really sad when enphase ended there’s. I thought about this before I did a review of the product. My gut tells me I’d stack this product up against SolarEdge in terms of reliability 8 days a week. They are the largest player in my area and have set the bar pretty low.

We are having a lot of reliability issues with these, the customer service is trash too. Very hard to get ahold of in the U.S.
@MrThejackal99
@MrThejackal99 Год назад
@@aaronisbell9809 I am curious to know what issues you have had with them? I have 19 APsystems DS3 units that have a 137% failure rate, yes I received 19 faulty units (recall) and then had 6 more that have had to be replaced. To make things worse after I shipped them back with their return label they didn't deal with customs so they were all shipped back to me. I am looking at Hoymiles now and would like to hear more.

I have sold and my DIY customers have installed over 100 of these microinverters in the past 15+ months. There were no failures. 100% happy customers. The published reliability is 99.95%, and I believe it. The only issue we have seen is that the Sub-1G DTU-PRO-S is very sensitive to where the DTU is located. Near a computer, or kitchen, causes interference. Mount it to the wall nearest the solar panels. Mine are in the backyard. If you want continuous energy monitoring for SRECS, add a WattNode meter to monitor the system. FYI: I have had to troubleshoot and replace over 5 SolarEdge inverters in the past 2 years, they told a customer they will take care of my labor cost so he didn't pay me, and then I never heard from them again. I stopped selling them and now I replace them with Hoymiles, because the customers don't want problems and I don't have time to deal with them. They eliminate the single point of failure inherent in string inverters. Happy DIY customers, that's my goal!

How can i turn off the wifi signals from the inverter, i dont like having that many wifi signals flying around

What are your thoughts when it comes to heat? It may not be an issue right away but I’m thinking about this over time. 4, 500w modules per inverter during peak sun hrs will generate some significant heat. Couple this with a metal or shingle roof with high ambient temperatures and minimal air flow will be an interesting experiment over time.

Do they cover labor in the warranty? From a repair standpoint, hopefully unneeded, the repair warranty is important.

I have a question, if grid power goes off suddenly would that Microinverters be able to supply power to the house?

My Enphase Envoy S Gateway has failed after 6 years. It's out of warranty, of course, and they want another $500 to replace it. As if a piece of electronics that sits on a shelf indoors should be expected to fail after such a short period. Ridiculous.
@solargoat
@solargoat Год назад
It should be under warranty? Just buy one online and call them and have them “retire” the old one and “reprovision” the new one.

I get what you mean… should have last longer.

Can this be clubbed up with previously installed enphase ones.

I'm not very familiar with micro inverters. I use a 48v LV6548 with 390v voc 120a dual mppt's. It accepts 120v line power, has its own transfer switch etc built into my unit and a 6500w pure sine wave inverter. What are the benefits of these micro inverters? I've got 4 longhi 450w panels in series so far and probably going to move up to 16 panels. I have dual sok 48v 100ah batteries for storage. I know my lv6548 only has efficiency around 94%. Are these micro inverters for grid tie? I'm not familiar with it at all. Seems like a whole lot of extra stuff to break vs my system.

1-1 DC:AC ratio is not ideal due to 2 main issues every PV system expereinces: conversion losses, temperature de-rate. A minimum of 1.25 DC:AC ratio is the golden standard.
