Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ru-vid.comUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.
Been a Matthew's guy my whole life, don't see myself changing anytime soon. The stealth advantage is the biggest one for me, I tune my bows and practice relentlessly so I'm not as worried about my form or grip being off. Once I have the feel of the bow committed to muscle memory, I trust myself to hold true. But that feeling when a silent stick slips through a deer at 40 yards before it realizes it was even on the way, that is what it's all about for me. I really enjoyed the review!
I’m with you but curious to try Hoyt . I did years ago while looking for a lighter hiking bow but upon firing it’s like holding a explosion. Not a big deal for one shot but 50 shots a day wouldn’t be fun. Something different for everyone. Bows don’t matter it’s the hobby that does matter .
They are both amazing bows, he had to dig deep to give the edge to the Hoyt and I’m sure his personal bias paid a part.. either way if you can shoot almost any new mid to top tier bow is going to be fantastic..
Oh I guarantee there’s a relationship with Hoyt in some way still.. Not saying he’s dishonest and not saying I think there is anything wrong with that but he had to dig deep to find a reason to give it to Hoyt .. both bows are exceptional Hoyt’s are just so bad on hand shock..
This video was extremely helpful. I’m 11 and I have a diamond edge. I just picked up my first nice hunting jacket which was a Sitka fanatic hoody. Your videos inspire to hunt white tails with a bow. Thanks Josh for all the good videos
Get it kid 💪 . Sitka gear is some amazing stuff and has helped me stay in the woods longer thus killing many wall hangers due to sitting longer. The diamond edge is a great youth bow and has massive amounts of adjustment as you age
Best bow comparison I've ever seen. You were thorough and very detailed. And you nailed all the key points that mattered for a bow HUNTER! I could care less about those paper shooters. I practice religiously with my bow and still be off my mark when shooting a giant buck. It's just the adrenaline, the cold, the nerves, maybe I'm rushing it, or the bucks taking forever to step out, everything that can go wrong WILL go wrong and the bow still needs to shoot lights out for me. You did a great job to keep the viewer engaged and your delivery was perfect. Please do more of these videos. Thank you!
Josh - know you and the Mrs are two of the hardest working bow hunters out there, but as a die hard compound archer I really appreciate this video. While your schedules and sponsors can make this difficult, please do more videos like this and your arrow building video. Even if you only review one bow there’s an immense amount of useful archery info in these videos and I just keep coming back to them.
Ive worked in an out of a Archery shop for the past 30 plus yrs and have my own shop at home now an I have to say This was the Best comparison video of these 2 bows that I've ever seen! Very very informative video! I totally agree on every aspect too even though I shoot a 27.5 draw the Hoyt has been my choice for several years now!
I like these comparison videos. Hearing the actual facts from someone who has so much knowledge about archery is great! Would love to see more of these! Thanks Josh.
Long time coming!! The knowledge alone in this video is outstanding!! I can definitely appreciate the unbiased comparison and appreciate the dedication it takes to make this video. I have to admit you ALMOST had me considering switching from my BowTech Revolt! Can’t wait for the next upload!
I had the craze 2 triax and Vertix and there a big jump from the craze to the Triax and Vertix. The V3 is by far the best back wall that I’ve shot though
Great to see someone who isn't bias to one brand do a honest comparison. Both companies make a great product, It all depends on what your looking for out of the bow. I just found your channel and love the content your putting out, Keep the knowledge and great information coming.
They are all good bows! What's important is how your treated after you buy it. Cracked a limb on my Mathews. Sent to Mathews expecting to pay for a new one, new limb NO CHARGE ! My Hoyt riser snapped in half right above my hand hitting me in the face. Sorry nothing we can do about it ! Never will buy another Hoyt !!!
My limbs started to delaminate on on a Mathews MQ1 12 years after I bought it. Took it to Scheels sporting goods and they contacted Mathews. Mathews had new limbs for me, NO CHARGE !!! in two days which was awesome because bow season opened like 4 days later. Customer service matters. i wont look at another bow manufacturer.
Hey I have been a fan of your shows for years and I actually started bow hunting because of your show and I have gun hunted for years and love it but I just recently bought a nose button and it has completely changed my accuracy and I want to thank you for inspiring not only me but everyone that watches you show
I was thinking about switching back to Mathews but I am going to stick with my Hoyt hyperforce. Great video! I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this video.
Wow! That video blew my mind. You are a some kind of a super genius. That video is packed with super helpful information and really informed me on the qualities to look for in my next bow. Thank you so much!
I always thought I couldn't hit water falling out a boat, there are tons I just learned about the bow and proper tuning through the entire comparison list he just described. A bow shop will be my next stop. Bowfishing might be behind me now, hay field armadillo will be my next way to get better with a proper bow. Thanks Josh!!
Very easy to understand why the Hoyt was more forgiving. The Axius Ultra is a 34" ATA bow with a 6 3/4" BH. This bow lends itself to be forgiving, especially for a long draw archer. These are also some of the reasons the VXR is so much faster.
I wonder how the Axius would stack up to one of Mathews longer bows like the Traverse with a 33”ATA and 6.625” BH. Thats the bow I went with because many with longer draw lengths preferred it over the VXR and Vertix.
@@ctfishing2021 The Traverse is a great bow. Possibly the best hunting bow Mathews has ever put out, IMO. I figure Bomar chose the VXR due to switch weight capability and the ability to get 75+lb.
Great video Josh. Respectful point on both sides. I’ve just never enjoyed the Hoyt draw cycle and it seems like in the past the price compared to other flagship bows from other companies seemed off balance. It’s just all shooter preference in my opinion. Just another Chevy Ford Dodge conversation lol
I would be so happy to own either one of these bows, I’m currently using a PSE Stinger and it’s not the fanciest bow but it’s a decent one that doesn’t break the bank. One day I’ll probably do something crazy and buy a Hoyt but.... that won’t be for a while. Great video!
Thanks for the video. New to Bow Hunting and looking for intel on whats important to consider when purchasing ones first Bow. So much information. Hard to keep it all straight. Cheers
Thank you for that in depth comparison. Most people focus on just the speeds and weights of the bow but you went into what really matters when buying a bow
@God's Com'n Yes the Atlas goes to 34 DL but the VXR which is what he is testing in this video only goes to 31 DL and he mentioned that his DL is slightly longer than 31.
Nice comparison and so true about the forgiveness of a bow being right up at the top of the list for a hunter. We don’t hunt in ideal situations and you need your bow to overcome situations in real life hunting scenarios.
I'm buying a 2021 too, not sure who yet but I think the amount of ppl that switched from hoyt to mathews cause of the vxr is why hoyts taking an extra 3 months compared to everyone else in the release of their 2021 models. Beyond excited to see what hoyts done
Much respect for Josh's opinion and insight... my 2 cents.. My 2020 bow, a Bowtech Revolt X for these reasons.. Smoothest draw cycle (by far), Tunability, Accuracy, Grip comfort, Rock solid backwall especially for cable stop (can hold it back forever).... many great bow manufacturers to choose from, but hard to top Bowtech lately, in my opinion.
I still believe the Traverse is the best bow Mathews has made! Had 2 Hoyt Carbon bows and they creeped like a Mofo! Nice on the hand in cold weather though and light as a feather.
Really like how you broke this down, gives people a lot to think about if they are bow shopping. For me the back wall is huge and is why I favor my VXR over my last year's Hoyt. Also the best thing you can buy IMO for hunting accuracy which is akward positions and abnormal conditions is the BOWMAR nose button if you don't have one you really got to try it.
@@BowmarBowhunting I was hoping someone would comment on that, as I didn't want to double post. I am assuming that is custom? I don't see that combo on their site.
Started with Mathews and haven't found anything that I like better or any problems that would cause me to change. Seems like Hoyt has lost a few folks over the last year or so......
Torque tuning is so important and I'm glad you brought it up... I was a staff shooter for PSE for a lot of years... invented the Jim Dandy bowhunter super tool back in the 90s to help tune bows and I learned a few things great video thanks... I'll stick with my carbon stealth 35... I mean it weighs 3.5 lb bare... strapped to my backpack I have to reach back to make sure it's still there...it's that light and shoots great
It looks like he’s comparing a vxr 28 to a rx3 which has an axle to axle of 30.5 which makes a huge difference... should have been done with the vxr 31.5 for a better comparison and would change the outcome on some of the problems
I wasn't even considering the 28 until I shot it on my 4th time of testing. It just felt way better to me. I dont shoot out west so it seemed like a perfect fit. I do however plan on practicing alot this winter out to 60 yds. So maybe regret will set in a bit? There all great bows in my opinion. I just went with what felt best in the end.
@@ernestodelao1601 yeah, i probably just need more practice. When I miss it is left or right, so just torquing hand I am sure. Have robin hood an arrow too.. does fly nice, fast and flat.
Things didn't go as planned thru the summer didn't shoot nearly as much as I wanted to. Getting a custom string put on ASAP then shooting more! I'll see wht happens at 60yds. Out too 30 I've never shot tighter groups!
This is by far the best brand comparison video of any kind out there! I love how you dove in and broke down all of the critical components of the shootability of a bow. Well done Bowmars!
I love my mathews traverse! I also have a long draw at 32.4" so this video helps with the spin arrows i will give a try this year with my arrow build this year! Thanks for all your informational videos you do!! Keep them coming please. Your the reason I started bow hunting and its nice to know the way a taller person sets up the riggs!
Definitely comparing best of the best. My dad is a no site finger release compound barebow competition shooter who normally runs a Hoyt. When he hunts and adds a release and sights he goes Mathews. Makes sense to me the Hoyt would be more forgiving and Mathews would provide more speed and flexibility. Thanks for fair review.
I have been looking forward for this review! Great video with lots of awesome information! You should do a review on pse next! I shoot one and absolutely love it and they have improved so much! Thanks for the great content and entertainment! I just with I knew as much about tuning my bow as you!
I shoot a hoyt magnatec intruder. Can't remember when that bow came out. 25+years ago? Haven't had to do anything to it since I got it. Shoots awesome. Maybe someday i'll upgrade to a new/used one.
Never hunted... yet. But I got a Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo about 8 years ago and loved it from the beginning. Was my first and is still my only bow. It must be super forgiving, as it's never been professionally tuned. Even with a short brace height it drove tacks, which I was told longer brace height tends to be more forgiving. It would shoot X-rings all day on your classic 5 spot targets. Granted, the X-ring on those is roughly the size of a quarter. Still, I am extremely impressed with how accurate it is, even with a terrible paper tear.
You have, without question, the most thoughtful reviews and explanations of what you use and why. It’s super helpful to understand your actual experience with the products you use and why you make changes. Most of the good shooters are sponsored and biased. The rest are mediocre shooters and their reviews are not super helpful. I first heard about torque tuning a few weeks ago at my local pro shop and thought they were messing with me. I’ll definitely be taking the time to torque tune my bow now. Love the channel!
Or the Mathews Traverse or the new Atlas. Comparing flagship bows isn't necessarily apples to apples. Would like to see bows between different brands in nearly identical specs: ata and brace height. I think that would make for a more fair comparison.
I wonder if the spongy back wall in the hoyt might be a result of the mods being in two separate positions. That may cause the cable tensions to vary more than they normally would which could result in a less rigid back wall. Despite that I still think the mathews has the better back wall.
I have never heard of the issue that he had with having to run the arrow nock high. I think he just didn't have his cams timed because I've tuned 100+ Hoyt's this year and all of them were running on the middle of string, dead level, all bullet holes. But, cam timing is 99% of getting a hybrid cam to tune correctly
Out of those two bows I liked the VXR 31.5 the most. That being said I wouldn’t choose VXR over my Bowtech SR6. That’s my favorite bow that I have ever shot. Love the comparison. Direct and honest. Can’t ask for more
I’d be interested in seeing the results of a test on an RX4. I’m the same, just switched to a V3 from my RX4. Was never really happy with the RX4 way too temperamental. The axius is like the Helix. Good forgiving bow
