Hi Thanks for the video, Could tell me were this piece comes from? when i turned the laptop over to disconnect the fan cable it was on the table. It's 12mm x 13mm black rubber with slots in it.
Well some of the models have msata slot. Soldered on the board. If so, you can add msata SSD. If not you can replace the regular drive with standard 2.5" SSD drive.
Excellent video. However, I would suggest to apply a new layer of the thermal paste only if you have high temperature problems or if you remove the heatsinks. Modern pastes last very long time and may last for the lifetime of the product (not the ones based on silicone). I still have old audio equipment from the '70s which still has the original thermal compound and functions fine.
The laptop is more than 3 years old, so the paste needed replacement. With the time it hardens and it looses cooling capability. Also the heating of the audio components and mosfets is different, compared with the new CPUs. But yes, paste needs to be replaced one if is old, or you lift the cooler.
@@LaptopDisassembly Only silicone based compounds harden in the foreseeable future. As I started using Arctic MX-2, MX-4 and Noctua NT-H1, I don't really need to reapply it anymore. The last batch lasts for about 8 to 10 years when applied. In 10 years, the computer will have been long recycled or dumped on a junkyard somewhere. Windows 10 and 11 are very resource hungry and are able to fully saturate old PCs with harddrives just by running updates. That being said, I often repaste graphics cards. The paste from manufactures is often inadequate. But you can see this when looking at temperatures. Reapplying paste just for the hell of it is pointless. Just my two cents. I think applying the new paste for example every three years is a bit too often.
@@speed_rider362 Well i use Arctic MX-2 and MX-4 only. I have customers that come every 2-3 y for a cleaning. After the second year the paste start to dry and become a bi like cement. Specially on the I5 and i7 cpus. Probably is a coincidence but i think 2-3 years is good time for a replacement.
