I’m sorry guys if the trick no longer works. These steps was provided by HP Malaysia to me 2 years ago. I would highly suggest to call your country HP call centre to help if the trick did not work for you.

I stumbled on the Embedded Web Server of my 2700 series printer whilst trying to diagnose this problem and it's the most useful feature that HP was not advertising. The EWS showed what the problem was even if it doesn't highlight it - half way there. Access it via the Scan Doctor or just by typing in the printer's IP address as the URL. Oh yes, and it's pw protected (Grrrr!) and the PIN number didn't work due to this problem - Direct print pw changed too - but 12345678 did. The sodding thing logs you out too as if you weren't annoyed enough already for having to input another pw! No need to connect via USB with Windows 7 to setup network printing, it can be done in the EWS.

They also encode their cartridges to regions so you can't use European bought cartridges in an American printer !? I'll be avoiding HP where possible in the future.
This works (so thank you!) but then after printing it will go back to the error message and i can no longer print, then later it will lie and say i have no ink left when i do :(

my printer like this modle new brand printing no color no black at all connected wifi to windows 7 64bit and installed drivers and scan perfectly but when printing the paper inter throw printer and get out with no print it is very strange and I have done everything but the same result I changed the ink cartridges and I changed the size of the paper setting unfortunately the same result if anyone will help thanks
Sir am in abroad my hp printer is 2300 this cartridge number is 682 here am not found this type of hp 682 ink cartridge shall I use 652 instead of that
This steps is only applicable for 2700 series. Different series have different bypass step. You might want to contact your local hp support and they will teach you step by step
