NVMe boot BIOS mod:
www.tachytelic...
I did this with a bootable Xubuntu stick, but had to install QT as it didn't have that by default, and UEFItool requires it. So i recommend following instructions and going with SystemRescue.

RUFUS:

Also, you need to move over the original exhaust fan, otherwise you'll get errors on boot, forgot to mention that.
Specs:
Intel i5-3470
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 2GB
8G RAM (single channel)
120GB NVMe SSD

Are the connectors on the front normal or do some type of modification need to be made?

I think front USB normal. Power button not but normal power cable can still be conected to the HP mobo. It's the PSU cables that are non-standard.

Kept the stock CPU cooler, the cooler mount is non-standard so difficult to use any other cooler. 2:56

If I were you, I would buy a new power supply to avoid adapters that can ruin your system. Those adapters are a fire hazard. When you have the time, buy a new power supply such as an EVGA, Antec, Thermaltake, 80 plus certified.

Sadly these HP motherboards use some weird proprietary power cables, so that isn't really something you can do with ease. I agree though anything that can't use only PCIe bus power (under 75W) is going to be a problem. It's only a 320W PSU in there, too.

My understanding is that molex/sata to pcie 6-pin adapters are fine as long as you don't try to max out the 6-pin power spec, in other words you'll have to remember that sata can deliver less power that a 6-pin, and select a GPU that can work within the limits of the sata power. Also, with sata to 6-pin i prefer 2xsata to 1x6-pin to distribute the load to 2 connectors, should do something to prevent them from melting. In my experience 960 with 120w TDP works fine with 2xsata to 1x6-pin. 320w PSU is also enough for the whole system, i did stress test and measure max consumption with wattage meter. Instead, if you think that converting 1xsata to 2xpcie 8-pin (for example) somehow magically increases your power budget to max amount specified by those 2x pcie 8-pin, and install a Vega64 with 300w TDP (ignoring 320w PSU limit with even lower 12volt rail limit), that's when you'll run into problems, blown PSU's, GPU's, melted sata connectors, melted cables etc. So my point is adapters are entirely fine as long as you remember you are in fact using an adapter and plan power budget accordingly. In other words, understand what you are doing and use common sense. Of course with adapters you can always be unlucky and get a super low-quality one that has a thin wire that will melt easier, even if you are careful. But that is a common problem with all electronics, not specific to this adapter stuff.
