This has clearly been designed to stop the average home user from upgrading their own laptop. It looks almost like they have gone to extra expense to ensure a customer cant easily install some faster memory or a new SSD drive. Otherwise it would have had a simple drive bay cover like the older HP Pavillions. Complete bullshit from HP.
Alba_Phenom Ikr? When I first received my laptop (a P027tx) I freaked out when I saw there was no removable cover on the bottom of the laptop like other models, indicating the RAM is much further inside. I initially bought it with the intention of upgrading it later on since it only came with 4GB, but it seems I'll have to pay extra for someone experienced to do it for me just to be safe. Bullshit indeed.
Alba_Phenom EXACTLY what I was thinking. WTF I've had laptops for years and have upgraded mem/HDD and this is absolutely retarded. I wanted a laptop similar to this and wanted to upgrade the mem and HD myself but holy shit
Thank you! Couldn't have upgraded the HD and memory on an HP Pavilion 17 without your video. The irony is I had just upgraded an HP Pavilion G7. On the G7 all Ithat was necessary to reach the memory and HD was to unscrew one screw and slide the back cover off. On the Pavilion 17 practically the whole computer has to be disassembled. Thanks again for your helpful video!
Thank you! recently fixed my friends screen, and noticed she had over heating issues and when i went to open up (to clean out dust, reapply thermal paste etc), could not figure out what tool was needed to get out that weird screw. Thank you !
Ademola Oladipo same, as every thing is hard to change plus they are easy to break AND I went through so many, more then what I should have. Once my laptop breaks and maybe if my computer still works I am SO changing!
I have taken apart laptops in the past. Several of them. This thing was a beast - it was like trying to break into Fort Knox! Thank you, I needed to pull the HD and without your video, I am not sure I would have figured it out. :-)
it seemed like my wifi card was loose, i tried reinstalling the software many times before i decided to open it up, it wouldn't have been possible without this vid. Problem seems to be fixed after i pulled out the card and reinstalled it. Thank you very much!
I was going to replace the ram but fuck it. This is way to much effort for ram. Ive owned various laptops from various manufacturers and not once did it require this much effort just for ram. And ive built a gaming desktop before and i swear that was even easier than this. One thing is for sure never ever buying a HP again. Upgrading the ram and HDD should be a very simple task and not require taking the entire laptop apart
+abpindia Pretty much any laptop there it. He's right...this is an absolutely absurd amount of work. All of this just to replace the damn RAM? That's totally ridiculous. It's like a 5 minute nothing on most laptops.
Thanks, this video saved me lots of money and time as a complete novice to figure out why the fan reasently started screeching, would have sent it in on repair othervise. A corner of a bit of tape on the underside of the keybord had come lose and was flopping down and making all the noice. ;)
Can't thank you enough. This video helped me immensely. Took me a day and an age to get those 3 screws out of the disk drive but after that it was a breeze. Thanks again!
HP wanted to amaze us with special effects ... but we have not! then: Yesterday, our dedicated GPU fell off for our horrendous internal dissipation (it was a great success, we are sorry but today as we try we can not melt tin, that sadness, good times) Today, we take away the service ports! think about how much potential in this simple gesture! scratches on the new laptop! lost time! blasphemies! and only to install an SSD or RAM! fantastic! but, for the future ... our super Kazzachistan engineers have found a way to turn the display to the inside !!! YES !! laptop without display! wonderful! to see the display you'll have to disassemble the laptop !!! ... but ... there are the screws? (hehehe) thanks for your money! HP Genius
Ciao +Melonierto, ho installato la stessa RAM che monta il portatile, una Hynix DDR3L-1600 PC3L 12800 1600Mhz HMT351S6EFR8A-PB. L'ho acquistata su ebay www.ebay.it/itm/301393521248?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
CIao...
+Mr GShocker Probably why companies did that. If the end-user can't access it easily it'll be even more incentive to take it to an "HP Authorized service center" to pay HP up the a**... Buying laptops is like buying a car nowadays. They would rather you go to the dealer or this case the manufacturer than going to a 3rd party company or a friend who would know how to do it, HP doesn't like losing money...
+Jose Huertas-Silva I did this now my laptop won't turn. All I did was unplugged those 3 cables attached to keyboard and put it back together just for practice. Now it won't power up? Why?
+Jose Huertas-Silva I installed ram on an older laptop and it was a breeze taking off the back part of laptop. Now, it's like building a computer from scratch just to get to the damn ram.
Great video! I installed a RAM and worked perfectly! And I had no previous experience with laptops. With patience and care, is very achievable for beginners users.
I just received my brand new HP Pavilion 17" laptop. I ordered it with 8 GB of ram figuring I could update it myself. The bottom of my laptop looks a lot like this 15" model. This is my last HP. I bought this laptop because it was a good deal online (so I thought), but there was no way to see how difficult it would be to remove the back cover. Now I noticed my keyboard makes creaking noises when I type. I may return the thing.
Thanks! Works on a HP Pavilion Notebook 15-p230no. But why do HP make it so difficult to replace parts??? One manual describes a "Service Door" which would be nice but not on this model :(
What size screw driver is needed to remove the drive bay screws? I had trouble prying the bottom cover off of the laptop- the credit card makes sense! Thank you!
Thanks so much for your video. My HP isn't the same, but very similar. I was stuck when it came to removing the covers by the hinges that were hiding screws. Also the screws that were covered by some sort of tape. That's what I needed to get to the hard drive for removal.
Every one who is complaining you can not upgrade it...it is very simple the whole point of making a little more challenging is so it can be more compact and slim
Grazie in anticipo.
those silly hidden screws were what stumped me for like an hour on this haha. seems kinda pointless to have 15 shown screws and 2 hidden ones but thats just my opinion. thank you for the help!
Good Video, Can I install "mSATA Half size SSD" hard drive in this type of laptop?? i have "HP pavilion 15-p045tx" laptop. but i don't want to remove inbuild parts like HDD, DVD writer...please awating your good reply..
Just picked up the "HP Pavilion 15-p009na" with a cracked screen for next to nothing. Need to remove the 1TB HD and it looks like "ONE HELL" of a process. So many screws of different sizes all have to be put back in the right place. Damn!!
Can the Serial Number be found somewhere inside the computer. I can't find the Serial Number anywhere on the outside of my new HP Pavilion 17t-ab200 CTO. I want to see it somewhere physically on the Notebook even though I can look it up in windows. Since you opened up this notebook I figured you would be able to answer my question.
Hey still works great without the rubik's screws in it. (Had the stupid cooling fan error, and this is the only vid showing the model I have) THANK YOU! I wouldn't have thought to pull up all those secret screw covers and w00da broke the shit out of it without this vid.
CIao!
Thank you for this video it's given me a lot more confidence to try it myself. I will report back once I give it a go tonight if I get time. wish me luck guys
I just got an HP Pavilion f series(I think).Maàaaan this is difficult! My last laptop was an Acer from 2011, and it had ONE simple access door for the RAM, WiFi card and video card with only 4 screws to undo. But this HP laptop disassembly is crazy, I'm up to the part where I take out the DVD player and have to unscrew those really fault silver screws above where the DVD player goes....BUT the stupid screw holes are itty bitty tiny tiny!!Why HP?? Why did you make your laptop that way?? So we are all forced to send our laptops to you(HP) to be upgraded?I should have brought a Dell!
OK...I finally got the damn 2 flat screws off with a knife and hammer. I took my sharpest knife and tried my best to get it under the flat part, once its under there a hammered the handle end of my knife, I had to use a butterknife as well and had to put some arm streight in the hammer and the screws popped out! So to upgrade anything you need to just pretend you're changing your CPU!!!! Surprised HP didn't have us SOLDER the RAM into the motherboard.
Hi, good video. You need to use the same RAM which already have? I ask because, I try with a memory with the same characteristics but kingston brand and didn't work.
Daniel Flores After disassembled the PC and remove the motherboard the procedure to clean the fan is the same for all notebooks. You can find the video on youtube
Aurella Don't try it! It's actually built into the frame. I tried forcing it off and it didn't come back together. I had to buy a whole new computer. These HP keyboards can no longer ne replaced. You would have to buy a whole new system or pay $300 to do it out of warranty. I decided to spend $600 to go with another brand out of fustration in the past I had with HP before I made the mistake of replacing the keyboard myself.
