Whats up with people saying the HTC 10 has no stand out feature? It has a built in 24 bit High Res DAC with its own amp for the headphones too! Its an Audiophiles dream really. Sure its not for everybody but for us who it does matter to, its a huge freaking deal! Also Uh Oh protection for a year so you dont have to even buy a case or anything since HTC will replace it for free one time within a year. I personally only last 3 months at most with a phone but I think im gonna stick with this One for a good while longer. Especially since I wont need an ugly case to hide this beauty!
Good points bro, I got the A9 because it has a good DAC/amp and I also appreciate good sound. I just had to use my uh oh protection as well and the experience was pretty painless. Im planning on getting the 10 soon looks like a great phone. I really just wish it had stereo front facing speakers.
+Seriously Google why is this even possible? Bro you should be ashamed of lying like that. The exynos processor destroys the snapdragon 820. Everyone knows that, it's more efficient and more powerful
+Seriously Google why is this even possible? I think you want to believe what you want to believe. In actual reality the Exynos smokes the Snapdragon SoC. Take a look at the galaxy S7 for example, or the HTC 10 and compare them to the S7 using the exynos SoC. the exynos S7 has significantly better battery life than both the HTC 10 and snapdragon S7, it has better memory management than the snapdragon S7, is faster in day to day usage, loads games faster and is smoother than the snapdragon S7 and the HTC 10. Don't believe me? There's a video by German dudes on RU-vid making a comparison between htc 10, G5 and S7 exynos. Go see how much of a difference gap there is between the S7 and the others. You need to be objective instead of just stating your opinion.
Damn! HTC sure did an AMAZING come back and materialized all their hype. Glad to see they're back. Please could you show a demo of how the HTC works with the Lumia dock? Is it just mirroring it to the bigger screen?
I would not get either of them, but both of these phones are just gorgeous 2016 tech marbles. While design is very subjective whether you like glass or metal, but both look great. HTC has come back very strong this time. It has a better software and speakers in my opinion, but Samsung is water-proof and might have a subjectively better display. I call it a draw. HTC has closed down the gap, so people should leave that fanboyism aside and give it a try. Monopoly is a threat to tech!
+Naanu Loper I just saw the cam results. In my opinion the HTC took better pics.. lets wait for the update.. I guess it will definitely be the best cam together with the nexus...
I prefer the HTC build materials and adaptive memory which I think means you can save apps onto the SD card? Also prefer HTC's removal of duplicate apps- Bloatware is a pet hate. Overall I feel HTC is more in line with how I like my phone to be set up out of the box.
One big thing that wasnt mentioned was HTC had hi res audio, This makes a noticeable difference when you are listening on headphones it's much crisper much clearer.
+Jake Borrelli I know. but you should also have headphones that support hi res audio. not every headphone supports it. and i don't think US or UK variants will be getting HTCs own hi res headphones.
+Shashank Laur i doubt there is some magical headphone that has some secret software/hardware inside to play better than any other headphone plugged in. Im pretty sure that just means the HTC hi res headphones were of good quality, Im sure if you have a 3rd party hifi headphone you can enjoy the same quality.
There ARE many magical headphones with (SECRET) hardware for high res audio. They cost significantly more and you don't know them because they're secret.
I choose HTC 10 as I like a solid phone. I have seen too many cracked screens on Samsungs and iPhones and to have glass on both sides would make me more nervous of it cracking.
i agree. for people who arent good with camera tech, i understand GO WITH edge definitely its the most userfriendly camera, and takes stunning photos effortlessly. but with the 10, theres a lot of customization to the photo you can adjust beforehand that will get you even better shots than the Edge. IE tone down the exposure just a tad, yourself and the photos will be phenomenal. i remember on my EVO, the same problem was present as whats going on with the 10. the pictures were high af in exposure and came out looking like the heavens were shining down on anything i took a picture of. when i toned it down myself though, they were even better than iPhone shots. rant over haha
Your freaking reviews are excellent, and that's coming from someone that watches a lot of them by many reviewers. There should not be any thumbs downs.
Really torn on this, I want to go with the HTC 10 because of the DAC (I listen to music constantly), USB 3.0, and quick charge , but I love the way the S7 edge looks (along with features like a bigger AMOLED display, the edge itself, and the IP68 resistance)
+D Rex That is due to how much light is in the room while shooting. light fights light in photography. I know. I shot for years. lol. No biggie though. I know you probably knew this just trying to help. I'm sure they were much brighter to her than what the camera picked up. If you notice when lights are dim and you try to shoot a video of light you'll notice it becomes intense if focused on it. or close to it. Peace.
+Robert Clark Although in her video she uses bright light. I see where the HTC looks way dim here. However that's the killer amoled appearing better due to its better display nits for outdoor light
Hi Lisa! Just for clarification, the Samsung Galaxy S7 has a single LED flash, the brown part you saw is hear-rate monitor. Also, in my opinion, HTC 10 is better overall.
Double tap to wake, all metal body, AMAZING audio, NOT an amoled screen, no push button for home, almost bare bones UI, good camera, love the way the front looks as well as the back and a front facing speaker type setup (not full boom sound, but oh well)....... I am 95% sold HTC. Now I just need it in my hand to lock down the final 5%. Counting days until the 29th. Verizon should have in store demos from what I have read.
I can't WAIT to get my hands on the HTC 10...I have the M8 and my ONLY issue is the camera. The photo comparisons are fine to me-- I prefer the warmer coloring. Gaaahhh!! May, I need you here NOW!
I've not been a fan of Samsung ever since my Galaxy S2 died (great phone for the time), but after a year of using an HTC One M7 (bad battery life, camera crapped out) and 2,5 years of using an iPhone 5s (battery life diminished, got a tiny bit laggy, still love the thing though) I was ready to give ol' Sammy another shot. It was Gear VR that pulled me back in and I'm glad it did. They finally nailed build quality since the S6, the S-Amoled screen is just gorgeous and without rival, touchwiz has been cleaned up significantly (still using nova launcher though), the batterylife is great which to me is one of the most important things in a smartphone, the camera is lightning fast, expandable storage is back, waterproofing is back, good fingerprint sensor which I can't live without anymore since the iPhone, etc So yeah, +1 for the S7 here.
I've had the Galaxy S5, S6, and used the S7 for a week. The AMOLED display is just not enough to win me over anymore. I guess it's just me getting bored of the same old thing, but I think HTC wins here.
people think that the HTC's hi res audio makes it sound MUCH better than the s7, that's wrong. First of all, I'm considering the htc 10 myself and i am not particularly pleased with samsung, so no bias towards the s7. But the hi rez audio doesn't make all music sound good on the phone. It supports higher quality formats, which you need to download, it wont sound any different on spotify. Whats good about it is that it has an better amp, so if you have demanding headphones that require alot of power for them to run at a reasonable volume, the HTC will handle the headphones better due to its better amp.
Good comparison here... I went with the HTC 10 over the S7 mainly for the sound quality, adoptable storage option, and durability (both inside and outside) over time... I know three HTC power users still going strong with their old handsets (two M7s and one HK Edition M8) which is what inspired me to look into HTC's direction (that and BoomSound) when I shopped around for a more powerful replacement for my old Moto G2 (I did NOT like the Moto Z) ... Besides, my sister already has an S7...(LOL)
Hi Lisa this is the first time I saw your channel and am really happy with your review. It was very unbiased and fair for both devices.. you just got a new subscriber 😁
For me I will stick with the S7. HTC is notoriously unreliable and their on the brink of going under because of it. So who knows if there will even be support for the phone if it doesn't sell well. (Which it probably won't.) The S7 just offers nicer features like water resistance and a better screen. The HTC doesn't offer anything that stands out. Plus Since the camera is better on the S7, that is a major thing for me. The HTC 10 is better then last years HTC M9. But then how could it be any worse? The M9 was pretty bad. But sales of the S7 are way up at this point compared to the S6 which in of itself outsold the HTC M9 10x over. And I think the HTC M10 will just be completely forgotten about by the general public.
Samsung has water resistant but the speaker and the sound its a trash, while HTC 10 has the best sound on headphones and speakers but it has a lower water resistant... Then the other specs it depends from the preference of the person.
Melbourne Dauz The sound of the S7 is actually quite good from it's speaker. Maybe not quite up to par with the HTC 10 but it's decent. When using the headphone jack the S7 has amazing sound quality. But Samsung has been improving the dac over time too. The sound is just so vibrant on my Audio Technica ATH-M50 studio monitor headphones. :D
Hi Lisa! Quick question: The colors on the LG G5, G4 and now the HTC 10 all look warmer - is there any way to get this on the S7 or S7E? I was a little disgusted with the G5 build quality, and I wanted a new device from my G4 - but color representation is always a little too light on the Samsung devices. What should I be looking for? White balance? Color temp? It's to make a preset on the Galaxy. the HTC 10 pictures looked so saturated! I miss those shots :(
I'd be curious, where do you think the LG G4's camera would fit in against the LG G5/HTC10/Galaxy S7? I'm interested because people still rave about the LG G4 camera and it's $299 new unlocked right now.
the thing is that the camera of the G4 has a lot of problems. the camera's glass is easier to crack than the phone's screen. then there is the same issue the nexus 7 (its a tablet) was known for, after a while the camera might get this purple or green circle right in the middle specially when taking pictures of light objects. And then there is another issue where the autofocus may stop working... it is rare but happens. lastly, it doesn't have nearly as many modes as a Samsung or HTC phone does. in summary, it isn't bad but it is known for having lots of issues
several points: first, the double tap to wake is not really an advantage on the HTC, since Samsung has a feature where you wave your hand over the sensor to wake. second, the tech media is almost universally in agreement that the best looking phone of the year and maybe all time is the S7 Edge. 3rd I could never give up wireless charging and an AMOLED screen now that I have experienced them. and 4th, I'm addicted to Samsung's virtual reality headset so I'm happy about the USB port. honestly I don't understand people who get so passionate about having USB C and thus limiting what you can plug into it.
+GringO Gaming yes that's right, anybody who likes a phone other than the one you like must be a fanboy. Never mind that yours does not have some essential qualities that I am looking for. I simply must like your phone or I'm a Fanboy. Absolutely.
1. I have never seen in my life someone who wakes his phone by waving his hand over ( double tap is also on lg and there a lot of people using it. 2. Looking. Nobody said that s7 has the better design ( especially compared with the htc 10). 3. You can convert the usb c into normal usb , and in the future everyphone will have it. ( pretty sure ) 4. Amoled screens get burnt after 2 years of heavy usage. ( now is about the respectice person, if he likes oversaturated color like amoled, or a more normal look like lcd) Not even talking about the sound witch doesn't exist for samsung.
+GringO Gaming Regarding your comment that "nobody said that S7 has the better design"..... From the Wall Street Journal, "At this price level, HTC’s competition offers a lot that the HTC 10 can’t match, like the Samsung Galaxy S7’s waterproof body and distinctive design, and the 3D Touch display and end-to-end media and messaging services found on the Apple iPhone 6s. The Galaxy S7 starts at $680 unlocked, and the iPhone 6s starts at $650." Also, my point about the USB port is that to use VR goggles, you have to still use USB 2.0 until new headsets with 3.0 start coming out. Adding an adapter to your port to convert it to USB 2.0 would make the phone not fit the headset.
LISA LISA ! On my Shield K1 when I format the memory card as internal memory, the Google music app doesn't seem to save music on the memory card. It appears to only store music on the actual internal storage. Have you experienced this on these phones ?
Enjoyed this like all of your videos. I would point out that the Edge functionality on the S7 Edge can be very easily switched off. I had the same problem as you with accidentally flicking it all the time but I just de-activated it and now I'm just loving my curved screen
Galaxy S7 Edge Wins In: +IPS68 Water & Dust Resistant +Quad HD Super Amoled Edged Screen (Very Immersive) +Dual Pixel New Technology Camera - Very Fast in Auto Focus & Low Light +3,600mAh Battery last one day easily of heavy usage +Exynos8890 Better than SnapDragon 820 in Battery Performance. Phone of the Year no Doubt.
Hi Lisa, Thanks for the video. Are both phones set to auto-brightness or maximum brightness? I know the Samsung gets brighter with auto, but the HTC 10 seems particularly dim in the video. If you turn it to max brightness, can it match the S7 in this video?
I really enjoy amoled screens. The HTC looks so dull right next to it and it's a shame because the HTC 10 has some really good pros. Mainly the adaptive storage! I consider the screen one of the most important if not the most important feature of the device. It's what you're going to be looking at for the devices entire life span. That is why it's a make or break feature for me.
+ProWrestlingGamer The screen looks great, I've had it for a week so far and I love it. With heavy usage it lasted 1 day and 2 hours I put it on the charger at 9% in 15 minutes it was at 70%.
I'm already in love with the HTC 10 it's absolutely gorgeous and yet durable. I prefer the HTC 10 over s7 the only thing that s7 has better is the IP68 waterproof but HTC 10 still has IP53 which is water splash proof. GREAT REVIEW 😘
I would choose the Galaxy S7. Dust resistance actually matters for me since I live in the Phoenix valley and we can get a lot dust storms throughout the year.
Thanks for the smackdown! I'm really torn between these two. I just wish the HTC 10 had the headphone jack at the bottom ..... That and an AMOLED would make it a no-brainer for me
I like HTC 10 more: hope the camera performance will improve with some software updates, but definitely I'd choose it over S7 (better build quality, better software, much better audio): the other stuff seems to be close, while I can live without wireless charging and waterproofing!
Htc kind of excels in one area only. Yeah, getting rid of bloatware is a nice touch but way insufficient to persuade me buy it. As for everything else (display, camera, battery life, design, wireless charging, water resistance) enough was already said. And if durability was my thing, I'd definitely wait for the S7 active that will be featuring a microsd slot for internal storage expansion, fingerprint scanner and 3900 mAh battery among other things.
+AirscapeInvest That can happen with OLED displays, though the tech has improved a bit in that regard. What really helps is that most folks don't display the same thing for many, many minutes to hours on their phone screen in one sitting.
+MobileTechReview Lisa, great review. The htc 10 is just a beautiful phone. exemplary audio quality, smooth as butter UI, and, oh that build quality. amazing how htc can give us 24 bit dac, with built in amplifier for that price, but the lg g5 charged you 300 bucks for the B and O "friend". That's a win in my book for HTC!
if u check out the galaxy s2 tab display models at Bestbuy for example you notice major burn in on all the screens since they pretty much sit there all day with same screen content.
+Mr Smith Yeah best buy never turns them off. with real use that doesn't happen. Seeing that almost scared me out of the tab s2 but I'm glad it didnt. The real product looks much better and hasn't even hinted at burn in after a long time.
I hate that HTC decided to not give the US a white front for the HTC 10. I also wish it were waterproof. HTC might say that it would have compromised sound quality but they waterproof their HTC butterfly series and that sound is no slouch! :(
+32Natban HTC said on twitter that US will only get the black front and it's reflected on the preorder page, black front only. also no Hi res headphones out of the box in the US. does HTC hate America lol
HTC 10 has IP53 certification. Meaning it is dust resistant and water resistant to rain and very small splashes and it cannot be immersed in water. However it is a good thing to have.
Yes, GS7 Edge's home button is very clickety to the point of annoyance (IMO). It's like snapping a button everytime. Though, overall I love it. Looking forward to trying HTC10 which I am a huge fan, too ;-)
HTC 10 is the better phone, however, I like the edge features of touch wiz on the s7 edge, but touch wiz is slow. This is from an iPhone user, so literally zero bias, just truth. Anyone who thinks otherwise either absolutely needs waterproofing, or has mad buyers remorse.
Hi Lisa ! I like your videos a lot ! I'ts a shame that those phones are so expensive here in brazil ! I wanted to know, that is your regular phone ? Thanks ^_^
If Samsung would just fucking drop their stupid "Galaxy Apps" store shit, and all the bloatware, they would be the best phones, period. But HTC's clean Android seems enticing.
i lf anyone give this 2 phone for you.....which phone you select ? why? because i need a good smart phone....i think you have a good exprnce about thease two phones
Great comparison, but could you maybe do the Multi Tasking test? That test when you open 5 to 10 apps on each phone at the same time, then reopen them? I've seen videos like this where Samsung re-opening of apps is horrible.
I have small hands and fingers and I have the same issue with the edged screens, If i turn it landscape to watch a youtube video i always accidentally fast forward the video by touching half way through the screen. I dont understand how people use them...especially with no case.
Super Amoled technology is not as sharp as Super LCD technology. Made a test myself, my HTC One M7 has 1080p screen that looks much sharper than the QHD screen on my friends Samsung S6. Too much difference, besides, colours on Amoleds look too saturated, looks like vomit.
What looks better is subjective. Someone who is used to LCD have to really be looking at colorful pictures or looking at both devices playing videos in low light to understand the difference. When I switched from my iPhone 6 back to the note 5, the whites were really annoying on it, then when I went to the 6s plus at first it looked pretty dried out.. but now that my eyes are used to the 6s plus again, my tab s2 and other samsung devices suddenly look over saturated again.
The real comparison is between the htc10 and the s7. Not the s7 edge. With that being said: Htc10 WAY better sound. Htc10 quick charge 3.1 (2.0 on the s7) htc10 near stock Android htc both cameras have ois capacitive fingerprint sensor on the htc10. click type button on the s7 htc10 5.2" too Samsung's 5.1" Htc wins hands down. If you like amoled, then go with the s7. it's a beautiful screen. other than that, htc beats it in virtually every category. Ok, s7 waterproof? I'll just buy a lifeproof case if I need water protection. and the htc10 is ip63 splash proof, so there at least is some protection. finally, build quality. to me, all metal is way nicer than glass. If I owned a black or gold s7, I'd go crazy! fingerprint magnet. whereas the htc10 is more of a matte finish. less or no fingerprints to deal with. who wants to carry around a microfiber cloth all day, just so the phone looks nice?
I don't agree with your comment that almost all HTC One phones had OK battery life. Previously I had M7, M8. it was good for its time. yes, it may vary based on your usage. as a power user, I consider that getting battery till night is very good.
I keep noticing this in reviews, and it really irks me. Why isn't the time/date in exactly the middle of the display when the S7 is in "sleep" mode? And can that be adjusted if it's not? (Maybe I'm crazy, but am I the only one who noticed that? Idk)
I prefer the S7. In speed the S7 blows the HTC 10 out of the water. If you don't believe me RU-vid speedtest between it, G5 and HTC 10. No more touchwiz is laggy comments 😂😂😂😂
quite funny, but the photos taken with HTC 10 seemed better detailed and with a better focus when in macro. maybe this is how my htc m9e willing to show me, but the photos look really better. :)
