Having lived in China for over a decade and knowing well the roads and the mess on them , I can 100 percent guarantee you this was not tested on Chinese streets in China . Maybe a closed track with no one on it .

Cannot trust a self driving vehicle build by people that cannot drive themselves

In a country where fraud is not frowned upon and a company with proven fraud in the past. Why would anyone trust what they are selling?

The AI is actually a live streaming service where an employee takes over the car and drives the car for you. (stable internet connection required).

Actually Google is doing something similar, their software only works in few cities where high precision maps are available. Idea behind this is that Google wants to use this for running taxi service. Tesla is taking different approach, they want car to drive by itself every where with out the need for high precision mapping.

Why is nobody talking about how good Mercedes is actually doing in autonomous driving? And on a side note, Mercedes is now the only one to support their own MB UX, Apple CarPlay and Huawei Hi-Car. They also have two vehicles, EQE & EQS, that have enormous EV range. But somehow they suck at making the public aware…

They have such confidence with their hands held about an inch from the steering wheel and ready to grab instantly. This shows they drivers have NO trust in the car's self driving. They likely had to redo the drive multiple times to get it to work. Pre-scanned maps do not cover for construction as well as cars and pedestrians. I also question how well these systems will operate in bad weathers... or stand up to possible damage from all the pollution. Are there LIDAR systems going to damage all the traffic cameras and facial recognition systems?

Not a fan of Huawei but Tesla FSD is not even in the top 3 in China. Huawei and Xpeng are definitely leading the world in affordable self driving technologies. They are designed the handle one of the busiest and most chaotic traffics in the world sincr their inception.

As long as Road system is not standardized, I doubt even Tesla can get its autonomous driving system working as expected. The problem is not in the technology, but in the road data provided in the field. If you got so many missing data on your database due to different kind road/intersections not recorded and lack of traffic rules, the car wont be able to drive itself.

The same company that specialized in EVs was originally a manufacturer of face mask during the c19. 2 years later they retooled for car production??

Even if this tech started inadvertantly raming into other cars and throwing itself onto oncoming traffic, it still would be safer than getting into a car with an average Chinese driver.

I think chinese companies hear about other nations companies and their work culture where people worked and lived at their office. what they fail to understand is that they did that willingly and for the love of their exploration and ideas. - forcing your work force to work that long 6 days a week is going to have an opposite effect.

It may be just me getting old, but I can simply not grasp how anyone would want to leave their own safety and even lives in the hands of a computer driving a car! Its reputation, experience and intelligent driving among customers are far ahead. Intelligent driving is infinitely close to the L4 level, while all other brands do not even meet the L3 standard. The United States is going to impose sanctions on Chinese cars for safety reasons. Of course, this safety is "national security" rather than "driving safety." The United States has used tactics countless times to strike outside the "rules" against capable competitors or opponents that surpass it.

Tesla has the correct approach. Just look at it this way, humans, who can be very good at driving, use just their eyes as a sensor. The potential problem with humans has nothing to do with their ability to drive or any deficiency with their sensors. Problems generally arise when the human is distracted, takes attention away from the road (my car, an ICE vehicle, actually has a sensor that warns me if I am doing that), or just does something dumb (not an unusual occurrence). The idea of a self-driving car is to avoid these shortcomings. Huawei's approach requires the fusion of many sensors. I have worked with this in the aerospace environment and have taught it in technical courses. I know how difficult it can be. Considering the level of technology in China vs. the west, I doubt they can do a credible job.

The scenarios of the AI being a taxi or working in the car instead of driving or someone without a drivers license being the sole operator of a vehicle are never achievable but they have already been promised. The edge cases like emergency vehicles are too complex and too rare to ever solve with AI.

Basing everything on a (probably) out-of-date map that can change literally just minutes after being scanned is a formula for disaster.

It's not easy to develop self driving car, even for tesla developers. There are many scenarios need to overcome such as: traffic rules, map discrepancy, obstacles, accident maneuvers, human and animals detection, pot holes, debris scenarios. You cant solve that for a very short time. This will raise danger for the consumers.
