Pick these up during your quarantine to kill some time. Replacing an axe head in less than a minute and all you need is an Allen wrench.

Not a fan of through bolting an axe head to a handle that is not a universal sized handle. It’s too niche.

Interesting I personally like the idea of replacing a handle. Doesn't seem too hard to make a handle, more a worry about losing the key. Just seen them for sale £70 seem a little high for me.

When is Cold Steel going to make a solid, traditional camp hatchet? The only options available to me are either online junk, moderate quality hardware store hatchets, or ludicrously overpriced European brand names. The Trail Boss is an excellent general purpose axe. I'd love to see a hatchet version.
@DefMunkyYT

How is this less complicated or better than an axe head with a hole and a wedge? The Tri-AD lock was a definite improvement over a traditional back lock, this is attempting to fix a problem that doesn't exist with a solution that seems much weaker.

Take your futuristic design and shove it, Cold Steel. It's not enough that you had to drill holes in tomahawks, or use nuts on sword hilts instead of peening them is it? Now this terrible monstrosity. I love the Trail Boss, but refuse to buy anything else from you until you seek and get help for this. Remember, the first step is admitting that you have a problem.

really? that puts a lot of stress on two small bolts, compared to the traditional design where a large monolithic piece of steel is used. how is that a good design, mechanically? and machining wise it's a more complex part, how is that a good design with a non-captive pin that is quite important to the function? I'm not trying to be mean, but this seems like a terrible design, and from the reviews, there are a lot of failures.

Conceptually looks good... however (& a big HOWEVER) I'll relate after 6 months of asking Cold Steel repeatedly for a Demko Thumb Plate for my AK-47 Folder. Replacement parts, warranty, and customer service false promises like 'we are on it" is total fantasy. Love many of my Cold Steel products that I use professionally and personally, but the support staffing and customer service dept. has been a complete and utter let down. All the simple little pieces do matter and hardware replacement is inevitable... that said,;Cold Steel is in my experience not geared to having parts and hardware available, so customer service can do no better than BS and put off a customer again and again. Sad truth that I would hope Ownership can fix.

@alaskaraftconnection-alask3397
@alaskaraftconnection-alask3397 4 года назад
My comment was not aimed at political or regional agenda. Fact is... all over the world there is credibility, capability and capacity to build good stuff. I think for example all of my more recent (last 10 years) Cold Steel Folders show "made in Taiwan" and that is likely assembly whereas materials likely come from all over. I have some fixed stuff from China Like the Bushman and GI Tanto that are high-value/low-cost winners. Some I believe is out of South Africa. Anyway... the real reason I posted (to say it again) comment was my experience as a matter of fact has been terrible customer service and exhibiting that they gear not for simple necessary replacement parts. The customer service and warranty departments thru multiple means of contact have been all a bunch of balderdash, false promises, with no remedy. So here we have a company (that like many) outsources to produce some good stuff; yet drops the ball 'locally' 'stateside' with poor performance concerning reliable, honesty-based customer support of their products.

If you throw your tool, the handle will break, then it is easier to replace it this way, than make one from the nearest pile of wood. You should buy a couple of replacement handles directly if you are considering a new life as an axethrower. My questions is, are the dimensions on the handles the same, so that you could put the short handle to the Hudson Bay head and vice versa? If not, why not?

I bought this camp axe last week. everybody worried about this 'bolt system' but i think this system kinda work. this axe use 1055 Carbon steel, head of the axe splitted half and thinnest part of each plate is around 3.7mm and opposite end tighten by bolt. important part is, bolt isn't main part that absorb shock. shock goes through {Steel Part(edge of the blade -> back side of blade)}->{Wooden Part (front side of handle -> where your hands on)} bolts only make friction fit of it perpendicularly. of course one lump of metal is much stronger then two bolt-supported metal. but that doesn't make any significant difference to this thick metal if you aren't super soldier. maybe these bolts can loosen by long-term use but It's strong enough as traditional one. also, applying new handle will be much easier.

And just why would anyone need this on a wood processing tool ? I get it for a thrower, but a wood processing tool I do not. The abrupt transition from the bit to cheeks and eye is not good for splitting efficiency, and splitting firewood is the main use for a camp axe. Not to mention needing a proprietary handle needed, that's not a good thing for pricing and availability at all. Again okay for a throwing axe but not a wood processing tool.
@btrswt35
@btrswt35 4 года назад
On a thrower, where the handle is more likely to get damaged, this may not be a bad idea for easy handle replacement. On a regular use axe, I'm not sure I see enough benefit to make it worth it. I would also question long term durability since it's not relying on a taper, friction fit.
