Here is a speech by Huey Long, one of the most successful (and corrupt) populist politicians in American political history For another Huey Long speech, check out my other video: • Huey Long Speech At VF...
How do you go into an area as corrupt as Louisiana was at that time and behave like Pollyanna Purebread. You would be eaten alive in about fifteen minutes. He was a genuis.
Amazing he was a third positionist, and yet he was against communists, capitalism, and socialism. which I found him interesting how he respectfully came into office.
He was corrupt but not in the greedy way, he used his power for good which so few do. Huey Long may not have been moral in his ways of keeping power. But he never did wrong with his power, he was not greedy, he was a man who wanted what was right no matter what was needed to do it. In many ways Huey Long is the Ideal leader, he is tough, fair and just, as you want in a leader. His death in my opinion was the largest blow to American Politics since the death of Abraham Lincoln. Huey Long is perhaps one of the greatest men in history, he had his life cut short preventing much good in the world. God rest his soul.
There’s nothing “moral” about power. In fact you cannot have traditional morals in the game of politics. If you tried to grandstand any morals you will be eaten alive. It’s a game of survival. To survive you play dirty, use every advantage you have.
@@LoveFor298Yen Yes and no, morals often are put aside to gain power. But in rare cases like Huey Long he gained power while remaining moral. Huey Long did play dirty to gain power but what he did with that power was moral. The way I see it in his case the ends did justify the means.
@@PengusKhan Corrupt is defined as "having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain." It can be argued he did do dishonest things for personal gain even if most of his power was used for good.
@Mr. House He created an elite class and was not at all conservative. He was was one of the most corrupt people in the bayou's history, yet got people motivated and gave people hope in the dark ages. Huey was a very animated character. He had a similar protocol as obama yet didn't have goals of dropping more bombs than all presidents before him. obama was a populist who started the drone program responsible for genocide. Huey was a populist who gave people faith in the system. Surprisingly, he did not have a racist undertone like other power tripping demagogues of his era.
Glen C. Baker, the more that wealth becomes concentrated, the greater the danger from either the far left or right!! In Cuba for example, half the nation went to bed hungry!! This directly led to Castro coming into power!! 40 years ago the average CEO made between 30 to 40 times what a worker did! Today, that figure is almost 10 times as much!
I don't disagree in principle. But the poor in the US, currently, have no reason to go to bed hungry. There is (food) help on every level of government. (from federal, to state, to city, to local charity orgs like churches and foodbanks/pantries) Our "poor" largely have flat screens and smart phones. IMHO the "poor" today aren''t really driven by NEED but by ENVY.
Do you get these from the Museum of Television and Radio whatever its called now? I was gonna do that I WANT MORE OF HUEY'S SPEECHES. This may be his most listened to but I'M NOT SURE WHICH ONE IS HIS BEST. I need his most eloquent and least religious speech. CAN YOU GET IT FOR ME? Thanks for this and the other one, regardless.
@@oldisbest470 I can't even find the two speeches you found. How do you use it correctly? Can you just do a quick search and see if there are any more?
@@SpitfireHunter I couldn't find any more speeches by Huey Long. It took a big of digging to find the ones I posted. They were in a collection of 1930s radio news recordings.

If you go to the Internet Archive at archive.org and search "1930-1937 Radio News," you can find a collection of various news clips. The two Huey Long speeches are #17 and #18.
It would be interesting to hear what the response both Democratic and Republican as well as Presidential was to Long's address as well as to his death some months later. To this day in 2021 from Senator Sanders and others one hears similar speeches with little response.
@@kmartradio the man was an outright anti socialist. He was an agrarian populist and legitimately believed that his share the wealth program would help avoid communism and socialism from ever appearing in the USA.
Echo you’re right. Reagan was a socialist, consolidating wealth among the wealthiest and his legacy has continued throughout the decades with government handouts to the richest corporations in the US. Walmart welfare. The point isn’t whether he was a “socialist” or not. The man fought for the working American who has been robbed for decades. He was a redistributionist for the people.
I note only at this time that Senator Long uses a long words words and complex sentence structures, and he carefully parses his opponents' rhetoric. It's almost as if he's not treating his audience like a bunch of idiots demanding to be entertained. And this guy was a populist?
populist is a word i despise because it's often used to describe any leader who wants to actually do good for their country and its people, long being a prime example of this.
Which political opponents did he murder? What publishers did he throw in jail? True, he did break up the small racket that had a iron grip around the politics of the state, taking away their privileges. Louisiana was no friend to representative democracy before Long.
If you listen he's ranting. Ppl who care about their masses don't rant. Mac cared to hv a army. This guy colors others bad he thinks to look good. FDR new deal worked. He keeps me poor calls me a freeloader. When one second of my work is worth his entire clans by worth for it's existence. Wrong door to claw at Mr manson
The glaring flaw is the disregard for individual choice. People make good and poor choices, you can’t control the distribution of wealth without ignoring that fact, which of course will lead to far more problems than you had when you first started. This crap doesn’t work in real life because people do not behave the way the model assumes they will.
The lesson here was learned by the men who put us where we are today....whatever that is....is to tell them what they want to hear. Recently a popular man talking like my Uncle Huey ...that's right I am a Long. I just read great great grandfather Longs Civil War record . The Longs split north and south as William Long joined the Pennsylvania muster and served the length of the was for the north in dozens of campaigns and woundings the and killings of each other in the stupidest Malay of insanity pressed by our Brit saboteurs and illiminatti wrench throwers in the gears of progress. But it is duality and insanity to think this world can be one way when we go back to Eve choosing the tree of singularity or the tree of duality...Let the veil come up from their eyes Lord I pray. Good and evil or life. You can't comprehend singularity without first experiencing the duty of kill and eat from the microbes to the whales. To the......humans. Hugh was another "god" .as people needed to worship something that was teaching them.... Not To Eat...each other....This is what Huey did. He knew we were rising to a great escape velocity society and that we had places to go and things to do. Now I never even knew my uncle was ways and means comitee. Ether blew off the marriage mom brother grandmother ...escaped to a mountain fortress town in the SW as JFK. I was told I would be Bobby and brother would be jack and my 32° Mason lawyer Gramps grabbed mom and us and grams and we were gone. Minutes later Dozens of cities on fire...Riots....not in Prescott. Gramps am I gunna be a dead president too? Then I watched Hoover decimate all enemies of the state and wondered .then he killed the president. You should see the world from my perspective. This is what all I was to inherit in ignorance and be the next Clinton or worse.First year law student I pressed the same thing Trump is doing now . I think he stopped a satanic sacrifice in Hollywood with a fleet of Blackhawks downtown LA in front of the Screen Guild actors thing black hawks sedate and relocate . Meanwhile the Grammys were up the street where the jerks are still giving themselves medals for America's poverty . Well anyway it went miserably and did not get me an honorary law degree and a platform to raise consciousness . As NIXON criminalized 30 million of our children for smoking the cure to cancer....I challenged it .... I lost....got my 15 minutes
Glen C Baker Jr The glaring flaw of the judgmental “working for a living” paradigm, where people need to grovel to gain and retain employment, just to survive, is the complete disregard for individual choice. That is why you see so much wealth in so few hands, that most people seek income from wages under duress.

progressivism sucked then and it sucks now. Including Huey. Re-distribution of wealth is foolish at best. How about a re-distributions of efforts and contributions.
