Ngl the frequency of these codex drops really highlights how backloaded the Spring release schedule has been. Dark Angels released in February and then Orks and Custodes didn’t drop til late April. Of course it goes without saying that the Codex system is 20 years out of date.

All rules and Codexes should drop on the release of their rule set. The method that gW adopted of dropping codexes throughout the editions life span is just ridiculous! I hope GW behaviour leads to it being isolated, and new leadership comes in, or just goes out of business so our models have some collection value, ha. it’s like being in a bad relationship, how much more can we take.

I didn't buy them because the character with the flame weapon didn't have any rules to use him in game, now that he has rules you can't buy the kit. 😂 RIP several decent cultist sculpts I guess.

I haven't played in years so i'm buying stuff that i like the looks of & maybe sometime if one of my gaming friends feels like it they can show me how to play a game i haven't played in about 15 years. I've been collecting 9e codexes & have almost completed the set (need about 4 more) so i could play pretty much any army i have models for 😀

that and they're also A: the only new cultist sculpts nowadays with guns on them and B: the only source of cult grenade launchers if you go looking for em. I kinda wanna find the Dark Vengeance sculpts for my own collectatoning eventually but them not keeping the BSF gun cultists around feels like a major bad move.

It does have the multi-part Legionaires box and 5 Possessed instead of just 2 of Start Collecting. It is still worse not having the Crawler and Oblits but is better in some ways.

It also doesn't help to compare when the CSM start collecting was arguably the best value box gw have done that doesn't have Custodes attached. Especially when greater possessed where a thing - that box was bonkers value

@@G-Squared_99my guess is autoguns are gone, but the new profile will have a 24 inch range for all default guns (similar to what death guard has now). While this sucks losing rapid fire, at least you could easily justify using both autogun and pistol models in the same unit since it will be basically rolled into a single profile.

The marks are only available in one detachment. Maybe that's why they removed these keywords and you get them back when you play the "index detachment". Otherwise it would be a really big nerf.

Maybe the chaos mark keyword(s) are gained only in the detachment from the index, and not in the others, so it makes sense(?) to remove them. Do not lose hope

Pretty sure the mark mechanic is exclusive to the index detachment but unless they change it then you can only give 1 mark and cant give them to named characters/ones that already have a mark... so without major changes abbaddon cant get the other marks (even if it only affects him in that one detachment

Abaddon losing the four specific marks would be a real bummer. Not only did that give him some extra gameplay oompf, but it was also one of his defining features in the background. He is special in no small part due to gaining the favour of all Big Four individually, and fusing them into his own unique mark. But I guess this is par for the course for GW, I mean lore doesn't really matter anyway, amirite?

Sadly looking like no new bike models as rumored. Hopefully, this is like the Orks release, and there's something nice for everyone. Some variety for Legions that dont worship the chaos gods/ follow Abs. Getting tired of the must-have unit on the tabletop being a character locked into one specific legion, cultist, or some daemon engine. Alpha Legion and Night Lords wana run more generic legionary units of old with their flavor/ twist.

My current army is CSM, around 3k painted so I don’t really want either box set, but those 3 characters look sweet! The Jump Lord is so good to see, nice to have a chaos lord on foot that isn’t mono pose with the plasma and hammer (or kharn as proxy XD) and that cultist character with the balepyke would be so nice for one of my cultist units. I NEED all 3 characters 😅

My main wishlist is that some combination of reworks, points costs, and detachment rules make Vash’torr better than a naked daemon prince and the Lord Discordant worth fielding. After the triple nerf to Dark Commune + Accursed Cultists, I hope they get rehabilitated back to playability outside whatever the cultist detachment is (genestealer-like respawns?)

Also side note - t5 and 9 wounds is a ridiculously weak profile for the antagonist of the entire setting. For the love of all things unholy, give the man a feel no pain or something!

@@paul80085 None of the things he attaches to are particularly tough, and all of his buffs except for the weakest one are irrelevant to terminators. I think he's a decent character but when you compare him to other characters like Azrael, he doesn't stack up well at all

The changes for CSM i like them i would hope that the units in that have stats for can used still when the codex come out. As nice it is for a chaos lord and jump pack getting new modes i feel other CSM can make them to if you are creative enough kitbashing . As for the battle force box they are great if starting off having a diverse amount of units for about 1,500 points army . Hoperully the firebrand character is worth taking if as a cultist epic hero . Hopefully Nightlords and other nique CSM legion get the love they deserve in this edition,

On the Abby front, I’m gonna bet that the index detachment gets reworked into like a word bearers / demonkin detachment and we lose the exploding 5s synergy. Pacts alone is a fantastic army rule, right up there with Fate Dice, and to then have pacts crit on 5s is a bit bonkers. To have to balance 7 other detachments against that is no easy feat, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they completely rework the index detachment to increase appeal across all 8.

Old combat patrol was way better to match the battleforce box. Now you have to buy a hellbrute, havocs, and DA separate. The only thing in the new one you wouldnt have is a MOP.

i would note that while his CP generation ability is nerfed a bit, there are a lot of ways to reroll pact rolls in the codex, which actually makes a 7+ around an 83% chance if those stay around

Would be a bit weird if they'd put a detachment for pirates in the codex but removed Huron Blackheart, the Red Corsairs leader, from it. I have a suspicion that the third missing unit next to Lucius and Noise Marine might be Fabius Bile - he's not an ally of Fulgrim in the lore, but he IS from Emperor's Children.

Nope, that only happens in boxes where everything is new, like the Dark Angels and Kroot boxes. Those are considered "army sets" rather than "battleforces".

There's no legitimate reason to pay the points for a character that dies so easily. T5 and a +2 save and 4+ invulnerable that gives your units one of 3 okay abilities is not worth it.

@@therooster8697I don't know how Abaddon dies when he is leading 10 terminators just deepstrike him next to a squad in turn 2 or just have him on board already. That's literally 4+ invuln 2+ armour save 30 wounds to go through, only assassin able to kill him in 1 turn is Vindicare but yet again deepstrike turn 2 next to him then remove him. Yes he gets spanked against any primarch he goes up against 1v1 or if they use epic challenge then don't allow them too, him and his terminators have full hit re rolls and can get lethal hits just delete them before they backhand you by simply positioning him unless it's Lion avoid combat with him because he will literally spank you no matter what you do if you touch him in melee, your Horus' son not the Emperor's son so don't expect him to be able to stand his ground against a man who 1v1ed Mortarion and won, a man who bashed Angron's face in with his shield, a man who is huge, very red and has wings.

I guess 49 datasheets is the new sweet spot for having more than 4 detachments unless you are ad Mech because Tau got 4 for 44 datasheets.

I literally bought 3 boxes of the Kroot hunting pack and was looking at the tide wall shield & gunrig because they look fun to use and mess around with. But noticed the gunrig wasn't on sale anymore. Was extremely happy and surprised to see it appear for the pre-orders next week, will definitely be getting 1/2 depending on price. Edit: I know you can't use them with Kroot but am going to mix some normal tau infantry in.

I don't mind a small Abaddon nerf (so long as others get boosted). Auto-including big named characters is kinda cheesy in lore, and the necessary painting is why I don't have any Tsons or World Eaters, having to field Big Red or Angron models to be relevant doesn't sit right. Another example, Lord Solar in every Guard army, silly, really. Abaddon shouldn't be needed when your vibe is Alpha Legion or Word Bearers or your own warband. Make him very good, but not all that. And the others.

Currently the only named Character i own is Cypher. Though i totally agree with your statement. Especially Alpha Legion, Night Lords etc dont need a big named character. Still wouldnt mind a unnamed Alpha Legion character.

Mr. The Despoiler losing all his marks is pretty saddening, both from a fluffy and gameplay perspective. He's enough of a statstick to threaten whatever he points Drach'nyen at, but I'm crossing my fingers in hopes of him having a dedicated detachment.

Technically, the current "Slaves to darkness" detachment IS abaddon's dedicated detachement. Bet you well see a nice picture of the Black legion on the page of that detachment in the codex.

The cultists actually aren't that bad. You want some normal ones for sticky-ing your home objective and the ACDC combo (accursed cultists and dark commune) still hits hard, though it's just point nerfed.

I'll second that. At 55 points, or whatever, you can put a ton of them on the board and just annoy your opponent with them. It's actually a nice feeling (for you, not them). Hopefully there will be a strat that lets you shoot a unit they're in combat with like last edition. It's hilariously evil.

Then I got the nightlords who I found were, refreshingly, just down-to-earth sociopaths, which makes for a more wholesome bad guy I think. Now I'm sat here with my unopened boarding actions, the heady space crusade days in mind, wondering what 500-1000pts of old-fashioned baddies (undivided? - I have no clue, lol) would look like...

Abbadon nerf depends really on strats and detachments big time. He is SO easy to kill is hilarious so he needs buffing in that department. Any character model in the game with 2 damage 2 ap can pretty much one shot him with epic challenge

Oneshot him? With 2 dmg weapon? Thats 5 unsaved attacks. With 4+ invu thats 10 wounds from the attacker. Thats fairly unlikely.

@@mtrunkello well any blood angels character on the charge to start with Voltann character did it the other day with 7 / 8 attacks and it was 85 point model lol 😂 ...He's super squishy seriously you can't defend his toughness for how much he costs in points now he offers no buffs. Seriously he is terrible. Drak is good but any average player will never let you use it. If he gets the chance to use it, it's a bad player

@@anardil8664 then drop drachnyen, drop his wounds by 3 to 6 wounds and he can be 120p. You cant have all. Or make him t9 but cant join squads and lone op within 3" of infantry just like the lion. Would that help? Because with t9 9w he will still get deleted by a squad of inceptors jumping him from deepstrike.

Honestly I like the Abaddon nerf where he only has Undivided now. 1) That’s what Abaddon is supposed to be leading, he is not a Nurgle guy or Khorne guy he serves Chaos in general. 2) It seemed last edition every Chaos army took Abaddon and this will hopefully limit him from popping up as a must have in every Chaos army list.

Wrong. In the lore, Abaddon is not merely "the leader of the Black legion", he is the "war master of chaos". He commands all of the heretic astartes legions. And he has been blessed by all 4 of the chaos gods, it is called "mark of chaos ascendant". In effect He has always had the 4 marks of chaos in all prior editions. He always was meant to have the 4 marks. This is just a lazy and unwarranted mechanic nerf.

@@IamElChapo The only thing I can think of is a lord in terminator armor has to be attached to a terminator squad so the cheapest that would be is 280. While a regular lord can attach to a legionnaire squad for 175.

I dont know i price match what they should cost versus inflation. $275 individually vs $370 shows how bad inflation has gotten. The fact that its sold at $230 then cut %12 to $202.50 seems more reasonable when buying from element games or others. Just a shame that GDubbs wants to inflate the cost so much.
