@@EllieVictoria aww I am so sorry for little chai, she surely was the sweetest! Also I needed to thank you for actually doing your research and giving her the best hammy life possible.I’ll make sure to watch ur newest vids!🌸💗
@@The_Hamsters_place thank you so much for your sweet comment! That means the world! Hopefully one day in the future I can make a home for another deserving hammy🫶🏼🫶🏼
Thank you so much! I definitely will!! Hopefully filming a new cage setup/tour this week and I’m going to fill her cage with lots more stuff and different substrates🥰 keep an eye out!!👀🙌🏼
The cage size is amazing! I would just recommend instead of having the drilled holes in the lid mabey you could get chicken wire/rodent mesh for more ventilation! Chai is adorable🥰
Thank you so much! Yes we did look into getting chicken wire but couldn’t find any other than massive rolls of it that cost like £100, she only ever has the lid on when I’m not around/ at night really anyway just so she does get good ventilation! Thank you so much for your kind recommendation though, I really do like getting advice🥰x
Hi I found that too when looking for wire but I actually found some in wilko for £4 in case you did want to mesh it I only needed 1 roll for my DIY cage and mines about the same size of yours 🙂
@@EllieVictoria yh I agree chicken wire would be better for air flow but also then you can hook toys to it I know you can buy small roles for quite cheep at Wilko.
she looks so small in that big cage .....she is one lucky hamster and you are an amazing owner to make her this massive enclosure . she will be living the dream life in this lovely enriching environment .
@@EllieVictoria may I ask what paint you used to seal the cage if you can remember? I want to paint my pawhut cage white buy I can't find any hamster safe paint for cheaper than £4 for 50ml. It would work out very expensive to do it all in plastikote
The cage size is so good, but I would really recommend putting hot glue or safe moss in between any popsicle stick holes, just to make sure your hamster doesn’t get any limbs stuck!
The love for your hammie shows. The accessories are cute & so is she. That’s a mansion compared to her studio flat lol. I need to make a hamster video! Updates pls 😊
That is such a good cage for Chai. I love the floors and how easy it is to take off. You and Sam should be proud of yourselfs for doing that with no instructions!
I really understand not wanting to film a diy project, I've heard it takes twice as long to do as just doing it and showing the final result. So I skipped ahead to 10:38 to see the finished product, nice. I do like that, so I skipped ahead again to the end to see the cage finished with all the digging medium and toys. I'm happy that your hamster will have a nice large home, nice to see people who care about their pets.
Great upgrade! I suggest either more bedding or HIGH (plexiglass?) rails for the top platform, my hamsters always run off any ledge and fall. She can hurt herself, the biggest possible drop should be about 3 inches.
I love that you decided to make her a bigger cage! She is one lucky hamster. Just a tip maybe add some moss or bedding between the bendy bridges so she doesn't get her feet stuck. :)
Hiya, I am looking to make my new hamster a cage like this as the pets at home cages are way too small, could you make a list of the materials and dimensions of things please 💓
Your hamster is very cute, and the hamster house is wonderful, I didn't fully understand the video because I was poor in English, but the video was fun. 😊 💕 💜
Omg I loved this vid 😍 and adorable hammy. Btw if you want too know if your wheel is big enough which I think it is just make sure the wheel itself is 8 inches. Other than that your hammy is very spoiled 🥰
This is awesome, weldone. I would recommend a trixie 28cm wheel, I know she's only small but it will do every hasmwer you will get! Other than that its amazing xx
Bigger is better, but not all hamsters can turn it, my dwarf had a 28cm, but could not run in it it was to heavy for him. So keep that in mind. Most important thing is that her back is not curved when using the wheel. Love this cage!
This was my thought, the wheel she has now is perfect because it’s lightweight and she’s just so small that any bigger I know she wouldn’t be able to run in it... her back doesn’t bend in the one now either which was obviously my main priority as I’ve done all my research☺️
Wow, this is awesome, Ellie! Firstly, Chai is SO PRECIOUS! AND that DIY cage is amazing, too! I love how the sandbath is under the platform; then she can bath without feeling vulnerable. I would suggest adding in a few more toys, as hamsters prefer semi-crowded cages, but you probably just didn't have a ton from the little old cage. No biggie. Awesome hamster care, awesome video!!
A quick tip for when you’re cleaning the cage is don’t take out all the bedding when you clean the cage keep a good chunk of the bedding in but take away the Soiled parts of the bedding so she still has a familiar scent because you take out the whole betting it’s gonna make her stressed and she might die so yea hope this helps 🥳
@@EllieVictoria Yes, I also do this with my hamster but I do the half and half method instead of just a chunk. I take out just the bottom half because that’s where most of the soiled parts are and most stuff falls to the bottom so it makes it easier :)
Your hammy is so lucky to have such an amazing mom who put in so much work and research into her enclosure and health 💗🥰 I love the video! Keep up the good work
I just finished the video and that cage is a DREAM 🥰😍 for the future, might I recommend using bendy bridges to separate the higher “bedding area” from a lower area that you could fill w sand? Hamsters LOVE sand and use it to bath and potty! A lot of people also like to put their wheels on the low side with the sand. I absolutely love hamscaping and would love to have a cage that big to play around with! 😅😂 mine is just a 40 gallon eco-terra
@@laurenwegner6634 Thank you so much!! Yesss, I’ve been looking on Pinterest for some ideas on how I can change it up for her! But I really love that idea so I’ll definitely give it a go!🥰 thank you so much for your lovely comments💓
This is just so amazing! I have the same hamster breed and mine is so skittish after months of taming, yours is so well tamed! I love the cage and ty for the tour!
Omg u love it so much!! I would just add a little bit more bedding cause hamsters are burrows they need around 6 inches or higher but everything else is amazing love you byee!! ♥️♥️♥️😉😉😉🥰🥰🥰
omg chai is SOOO cute. I have a cage similar that I made and I bought all the stuff from B&Q. it all added up to £50 which is a lot cheaper but I don't know if that's because the cage might have been bigger or because its cheaper in B&Q but it looks really nice x good job
Simply amazing! One lucky little hamster! I currently have my dwarf in a 30 gallon bin cage. He has around 550 square in. Wanting to upgrade soon. New subscriber here. Looking foward to seeing more of Chai.
Love this new enclosure! In would just recommend removing the giant platform (the highest one) as hamsters do not have depth perception and so she could easily jump or fall from it and injure herself. Even if it is paper bedding, it is still not a good idea. Instead, add more bedding depth! Rather than just having it on one side of the enclosure- use the whole enclosure! I hope this helps ❤️
Absolutely love this enclosure, it looks great and makes me want to go even bigger with mine! It's great that you've got the lip on the tallest platform so she's got some security - have you maybe thought of layering it with sand or aspin? Mine predominantly use their sandy areas to go to the toilet so it makes spot cleaning so much easier, especially when there's so much bedding :)
Thank you so much for your idea! Yes as soon as I’ve been paid I really want to upgrade it even further so she has different textures in there so I’m definitely going to do her a large sand pit because she loves hers and I am going to get aspin too!! So I was thinking of doing three different sections so she can still burrow in the bedding and then have the sand and aspin also :)
I know the waiting for payday all too much, new additions add up so quickly! Look forward to an update video in the future! Also wanted to say thank you for being so transparent about your first cage - I was much the same and started doing more research once I'd got mine so it's reaffirming to see the same from others 🥰
I didn’t want to put any holes in the sides because of her potentially chewing them... they are just in the top which lets plenty of air flow through because they are quite big holes. I don’t have the lid on when I’m there she only has it on when I’m not around or at night, but she gets more then enough air flow
Yes to research!! You queen!!! Amazing job done and she is an adorable little thing!! Only thing I will say is be careful what you get from pah (I worked there for 8yrs) not allowed to say more then that but look on etsy for stuff! Support small business if you can. Overall amazing job done and she is a lucky little girl!!
Amazing diy cage! 😍 but if I could say just 1 little thing... on the high place. Watch out for she doesn’t run out and lands on the house underneath.. if I was you I would move the wooden house that is beneath a little to the side so if she runs over she lands in the soft bedding... but other than that. Just a really good and amazing cage. 😊👍
Just came across this video. Her new cage looks amazing. Great job on making it, Bet it took a while to do all the measurements? lol. Looks amazing!. I have been a dwarf hamster owner for 6 years now, my 2nd dwarf passed away two weeks ago now, he was so tame and super friendly and always one for attention lol. I got him from Pets At Home as I did with my first dwarf. I am getting my third hamster next Thursday and have the Ikea Detof to set up this week ready. I love the upstairs bit you made, its so spacious. Great video, loved it! :)
I bought hamsters for my grandkids but I have rats and ball pythons myself. I'm looking for cage ideas for the kids and stumbled on this video. It is giving me ideas for my 2 rats as well. I wish I could be this creative but me and power tools don't mix, lol.
Aw bless! I literally just had a vision in my head and this is what we brought to life! Very proud of it! And it wasn’t even that difficult to be honest☺️
hiii! the cage looks amazing oml but just be careful what herb mixes you feed your hamsters! alot of herb mixed from the rose wood naturals brand especially (marketed for hamsters and small animals) has alot of mixed that have bad ingredients for hamsters, so make sure to check the ingredients before buying them!
Amazing cage!! Just a quick tip, that tree chew toy thing is unsafe as it is made from sawdust and honey so I’d recommend taking it out, other than that amazing job :)
She loves the platforms and spends most of her time on the large one when she’s not asleep so I definitely can’t take them out, she now has a multi chamber hide too
It's acrylic or plexiglass but it can cause a lot of static build up and the bedding substrate will cling to it. It's worth the cost to get a piece of real glass, but it's also something you can work up to if you can't afford to right away.
Also little suggestion, try giving her a water dish because it’s more comfortable for them to drink. (Make sure it isn’t to big they shouldn’t really sit in it) Most people use tea light candle holders that you can get on Amazon. 😊
Hi, they are actually in the dwarf hamster family so calling them a dwarf is basically correct too, it’ll tell you that if you google info about them :)
you know your macdonals vid that is the macdonals. I go to if you don't belief me there is loads of shop near but its called arison cented it has next, the works, pets at home, kfc smith toys superstore, sub way , sports, I think primark if I got there words spelt wrong im sorry im 9 years old and the iPad is old so if I press T I have to spamm it
Hey there! I'm not sure you'll see this but this is just some constructive criticism you can choose to take or not. :D I've noticed chai is a robo and because you own a robo, I do encourage a larger sand bath. This is of course not needed, but robos, in general, live in sandy areas, and are said to need at least 1/3 of the cage just sand!
Thank you! Yes I’m going to convert some of the floor space to sand and some to aspin so she has different textures in there🥰 I’m always up to listen to advice, I love playing around with different setups so I will definitely take on your advice ☺️
i loved this video sooo much and your cage looks really nice, however i would reccomend not using the harry the hamster food mix and isntead use the pets at home hamster muesli as it has safer ingredients :)
Yes exactly! I just think it’s not their fault that they are there and still deserve a lovely life as they are still living beings🥰 aww well good luck they are such amazing hamsters, I have bonded so well with mine🙌🏼☺️
