I think you should read Anne of Green Gables in Canada because Ariel would be super excited to witness you reading it plus it will remind you of your time visiting Ariel on her special occasion 💚💛 So many friendship tie ins! 🥰
☕️ Hi, Claire. Read 'Anne of Green Gables' now and then re-read it next spring before you go to Canada. It doesn't take long to read. It's lovely to see you so happy in York. ☕️ Carol
I think autumn is a good time to read Anne. Education and school play such a big role in her life. Although you can't go wrong whatever season you choose.
I've just discovered your channel and love it! I've read "Black Diamonds" and it was one of my favourite non-fiction reads a couple of years ago. If you do visit Wentworth I recommend visiting the garden centre (it has gardens inside that were part of the estate and there's even deer) and a wander round the village, it's a lovely place. I'm still yet to go down to the actual house but I will one day!
Hi, I'm Chris ( I share an email address with my wife). I'm 73 and live in Oval Road, Croydon ( just by East Croydon Station) and have done for 48 years. Our house is a terrace and was built in 1886. In 1976 it was not expensive £10,400. Carolyn and I go to Morden Hall quite often and at the beginning of last year I took in about 200 books. So, who knows you may have bought one of them. I do love your chats and was so taken with your purchase of Anne of Green Gables that I thought I'd give it a go. Because of arthritis, failing eyesight and for the sake of convenience we use Kindles now. I sampled the book, loved it, bought it, finished it. Enough rambling I am just writing to wish you all the best in York and to tell you that you're going to love Anne of Green Gables.
Oh that is amazing! I lived just down the round from you then how lovely ❤️ I've almost certainly bought one of your books from Morden Hall - what a small world! So glad you enjoyed Anne of Green Gables 📚
Lovely York!!! (even lovelier with a good friend) An interesting feature to look for in old postcards is the lost art of "cross-writing" to maximize use of space.🧡
🐕🐶🐕 Definitely read Anne of Green Gables soon, then maybe you'll have read the entire series by the time you go to Canada and can then have lovely Anne of Green Gables times with Ariel! 😊
I love Anne of Green Gables, one of the many books that were my Mum's/Grans favourite too. Lovely to see you both settled in your new old house in York, such a beautiful city. My Mum and her cousin bought a pair of 'Wally Dugs ', and had one each. They both loved them. Your video has put me in the notion of visiting York soon. Lovely episode ❤
what a fun video - love seeing the things you find in charity shops - and especially book shopping - I too am partial to anything with lily of the valley - born in May so I have always loved these flowers - and their scent. Looking forward to seeing your house become your home! have a wonderful week!
Your videos are always a delight. I love your joy and enthusiasm and sweetness- and the books, of course😊. I toggle back and forth between your video, library site and bookstore! Can’t wait to see your next post.
my book collection is 50% books I found in charity shops. I used to live in London and would go to the charity shop in Hampstead, and because there's so many literary types living around there I'd find the most wonderful rare literary paperbacks and interesting proof copies of novels and stuff like that. But any average charity shop. I'll never walk past it without having a sniff around to see what they have on the shelves
She's quite the adventurer! It was her first holiday to Ben's parents' house in London. The chimney probably hasn't been cleaned for ages so Sybil really did them a favour 😂
Lovely video! I'm obsessed with those spaniels too but in Australia, they are not really a thing. I don't have a lovely mantle either, my home is only about 40 years old and has central heating. Looking at the mantle piece in your office are you going to put a wider wood mantle piece above the bricks? It would finish it really well. Happy Reading 🐕🐕
I don't think we'll add a wooden mantel until we can fully refurb the fireplace. We'd like to remove all of the brick surround and then install a vintage mantelpiece one day!
🐶🐶 Great video ,Claire x I read the Black Diamonds book a while ago. Interesting read. The place was closed for renovation work back then but I'd love to visit xx
Loved this video. Yes, you never drew breath😂 but everything you talked about was really interesting and all your collectables were fab.. I love your unique style as an individual.
🐶🫖☕ I should've waited to comment and said it all together haha but anyway I have the exact same mirror on my wall and love it! Secondly or Thirdly I just bought a brilliant needlework book on vinted with Tapestry spaniel cushion on the front and a tonne of tapestry cat cushions. My nan has two of the spaniels on her mantle piece in her front sitting room and I'm hoping and praying I can inherit them one day! 💛
Mam, your hair is the least of your problems . Moving to a new place can be a bit of a hassle, I know, so, it is good to hear you're settling down fine and dandy. On the book haul matters, I'm so surprised to hear Ladybug Publishing is still around
Claire, what is the name of your favourite bookshop in the world? I kept rewinding it but couldn't catch the name. If any other reader sees this comment and knows the answer, please chime in!
I love how the China Dogs and Anne of Green Gables are in the same video...LM Montgomery went to Scotland on her honeymoon and hunted for a pair of china dogs...she wanted green spots but didn't end up finding them, she bought the ones with gold spots. The dogs are featured in Anne of Island, the third book in the Anne series.
Finally was able to sit down and watch this!! Gosh I'm so lucky I don't live in the UK because I would positively go insane buying knick knacks and antique goods. The clips of you and Ariel were so warm and lovely, and you look so happy in this! 💕 Truly a joy to watch. Can't wait for more! 🐕💖
I have you to thank for introducing me to the ghost merchants. When we went to York last year, it was the first stop and we queued for 2 hours. But I am a proud owner of 3 large ghosts. Such a lovely vlog. Thank you Claire 🐕🐕🐶🫖☕️
Thank you for the lovely video Claire! Well that's another load of books added to my wish list as usual 😂 I read Anne of Green Gables in October (because of the famous Octobers quote) and it was perfect! Of course you can read Anne all year round because the book spans the different seasons, but Autumn for me was best. More particularly those bright, sunny Autumn days where the colours are so vibrant and the air is crisp and you're eating apple crumble with ice cream and falling in love with Anne and Gilbert 🥰
🫖 ☕️ ❤ if you read “Anne of Green Gables” now there will still be plenty to read when you are in Canada! Love York, but I always think of pink sugar mice - had my first on a trip as a child, possibly when sugar rationing finished?? I’m old 😂.
Hi, i saw a comment of you in a video of another person saying that you work or used to work(the comment is 5 years old) in marketing in a Publishing company. I was wondering if you could give some tips on what to learn or do to make a pivot change into that kind of area. Right know i just graduated from an International Business Degree, and i have been in working in the logistics field for over a year. I´m planning maybe next year to do a master in another country or something, but i´m still not secure in what to do it so it can help me with this change of field. Thanks for taking the time to read this comment, have a great day.
Depending on your area of interest, work experience and internships are good ways in to entry level jobs! Also bookselling and relevant experience in other industries like working for an agency if you’re interested in marketing 📚
