Huge Model Shakeup for Age of Sigmar 4th Edition | Warhammer 

Do we need an expiry date on models now? Doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence if your thinking of buying older minis.

If I were to speculate about BoC having been getting lore, it's because GW wants to set themselves up for a Sisters/Deldar/Squats situation in the future, where they triumphantly bring the army back, because this will allow them to generate tons of goodwill by "listening to the fans" (create a problem, then sell the solution) and it will also save them from having to actually think of new things in the future, by just re-releasing what they already had, thereby saving themselves development time and costs.

I just had my Dark Angels deleted from play so I switched to AoS and inherited a Beast of Chaos army, 3 months ago. So I'm done with GW products and systems wholesale, my gaming room is now and exercise room.

As you said, Beasts of Chaos announcement just feels so off and random. It just feels like some executive went up to the AoS design team while they were working on 4th edition and told them that they don't get BoC anymore.

Not sure what to do with my Stormcast. Mostly sancrosanct. I think I'll shelve them entirely and wait to see what the new edition has coming. If they re-release the sancrosanct models from the ruination chamber t here maybe a chance to use them. Overall, won't be touching them hobbywise for quite sometime and confidence in AoS has dropped. Looks like 40K is the way to go?

Just got my first Warhammer set, the Ardboys. This makes me really hesitant to further invest, or cut my losses and try out 40k instead. Steep prices are one thing, but without any guarantee of viability I might as well gamble with this money.

Skaven are pretty much the only vaguely original model line GW have. Bizarre they don't have them in AoS and OW

I had already decided to use my small Beastmen collection for The Old World, but the SCE cull is really frustrating and could not have been announced in a worse way. While I am certain that some of the models will still be usable, to remove the exact models from the 2nd edition starter sets that began many SCE collections is the worst way to deal with the SCE line bloat. Warcry being turned into a seasonal game like underworlds is equally as frustrating as those chaos tribes had some of the most unique designs and were the main drive for me collecting that game at all. Fortunately for me, I had already collected nearly the entire line and won't be missing out but the fact that they will lose future rule support sucks, and any remaining models will be extremely expensive just like OOP underworlds warbands.

I think it hurts more because we haven’t seen any new models. According to my memory when they did this with 40K we at least had seen the units in leviathan.

I wonder if people remember when a different Table Top game got rid of 95% of ALL of their models when releasing a new edition….then starting said new edition without having all factions released.

I completely understand removing the models from the range. If GW never retired models, there would be far too much out and they wouldn't be able to stock it all. They can barely stock everything as it is. But what I don't understand is why they have to remove the units from the game. If the new units are good enough, most players will buy them anyway and their armies will either just be a huge mix of old and new, or they will have to pick and choose what to use in battle and if the new units are worthy of replacing the old, then most players will choose the new units over the old anyway. The promise of new units will please all players. Growth is good. But there are some players who can't afford to replace half of their army. They might have a limited budget and they have their perfect army. And now they are being told you have to pay out again or piss off. That's how it feels to many. And the beast of chaos choice is the one which shocks me most. Do you love AoS? Do you Love Beasts of Chaos? Well you will have to give one up now. Either swap to Old Worlds or swap armies to stay in AoS. That's kinda shitty.

Well put Tom. BOC are my only AOS faction and my motivation to finish painting them has taken a hit and in thinking about what faction I'd like to move to, I've really favored newer ranges, because my buyers anxiety has had such a tremendous uptick from this experience. Also I had convinced myself that after skaven, we were next in line for a refresh. Glad I didn't make any bets on that.

the sour taste is knowing how long ago these decisions must have been made, ex Beasts of Chaos, and realizing they still went ahead and made Vanguard boxes, Terrain, Spells & a hero to buy for a faction they have already moved on from. The only brightside is that the hole left by BoC will now most likely be filled by Chaos Duardin, which I never thought would return to AoS. Maybe in a few years, in a new edition, we will get the reimagined Beasts of Chaos faction that visually fits the Mortal Realms?? Time will tell

Thank you mentioning the lore aspect for BOC, that is honestly my biggest gripe here, also my own suspicions as to why they are getting squatted is that GW overreacted to and misunderstood peoples complaints about the incarnate mini they released.

Thankfully, my Seraphon army is safe since it went through the chopping block a while ago.

considering the new cities of sigmar book isn't that old, they should've just put Aventis into that book, considering they for sure knew this was gonna happen down the line

I've recently been checking out wargames and spent quite a bit of time first on 40K and then realized that AoS was more appealing to me. Was seriously considering buying some models and was trying to decide which army I'd be most interested in. These wholesale cancellations were enough to convince me not to bother. I was already leery about entering GW's python-like embrace and now the idea of investing hundreds of dollars plus 100-200 hours painting a full army just isn't appealing when they're so willing to just declare those models unplayable.

Know I see why so many people I know are selling their armies and giving up on AOS to go play 40K. Once again GW Staff are gutting themselves for some new models and some new units . Thankfully I play Narrative Games and not Tournaments/Match-play BS! And them making the models "Thinner" vs being Strong Muscle Bound Warriors is ehhhh. Now I'm all for new designed models of units, that's GREAT but to tell people that the models they bought are no longer being supported in the new editions is Crazy & Disrespectful. Picture you spend weeks if not months working at your job and putting money to the side to buy models to build their collection to play within the hobby Only to be told your models are now dust collectors. The monetary aspect sucks, but the time investment is way worse for those that built up armies. I’m surprised that the ‘sacrosanct’ has gone given how great their models are and what the word means… oh the irony! I suppose they’ll bring them back in 5th?

they havent shown off the new because they have no confidence in the new, if its like primaris they will change scale and proportions keep the vaguest of similarities and remove any characteristic parts, in leiu of easy to produce and boring to look at units with interchangable parts to save on money and development time.

GW is going to periodically rotate figures and games out of production, and likely for a number of reasons. Giving Beasts, Bonesplittas, and the initial Stormcast figures a year of support allows current fans of those armies time to choose and create another army. Over the many years of the company, this hasn't been the first, and won't be the last. All the sadness in this is understandable, while at the same time not a surprise. Life is full of feelings we can get beyond, and find a path forward for more peace and joy. Cheers!

refresh every six months..... jesus, theres talk about how this hobby is a luxury, but you would need to be fucking minted to buy an entire range every six months, if you get a paycheque from a job every 4 months you get ONE chance at a range and its gone before your next paycheque, thats obscene, so of course thats what GW are aiming for.

Innovation? I accept that my phone's software and hardware will need to be replaced because of true innovation. This isn't that. Slimming down my Sigmar space marine from a XXL to a XL is not innovation. They should have added more ways to play with your existing models. That would be innovation.

The stupidest thing in this situation is the сrazy people who are happy that “the neighbor’s house burned down.” All Warhammer games are made by the same Games Workshop. No Warhammer game is immune to bad and unpopular GW's decisions. That is, tomorrow the same thing will happen to what YOU love!

isn't this primarily a hobby where friends play whatever they want among themselves? Is everyone super duper invested in official tournaments? Do your friends really care if you use old models?

GW is…a business. They’re dropping what doesn’t sell or what they’re about to refresh. Not rocket science.
