One thing I will say that I like about this game is the reigned in HP. The HP amounts seem akin to Gen 6 and older sets. Not only that but with players only needing 3 points to win a game, and ex giving out 2 when KO'd, it could mean that ex cards aren't going to be as dominant here as they are in the actual TCG.

The HP kinda ties into Pokemon Legends Z-A then, right? If it's similar to that generation. They might even bring back more of gen 6 then!

My only predictions: If we have an energy zone and smaller deck we'll have a smaller starting hand too. We might draw a card every time we get a point.

So it's My First Battle (small decks, bench limit of 3, prize tokens instead of cards, energy pool), but with EXs. Interesting.

Despite using the same name though the energy zone doesn't act like My First Battle where that was universal energy, energy still needs to be attached to pokemon but yeah, they definitely took some level of inspiration from that which like it kinda felt like that meant to tie into something that it didn't.

I’m actually really interested to see how this pans out from the perspective of someone who’s already quite familiar with and invested in the TCG. I think getting a different take on the game that seems to emphasize speed and accessibility will be a good starting point for new players and offer something new to existing players. And who knows what the heck meta decks are gonna look like in this game? It’s gonna be a brand new game to learn, for sure, but it’ll still scratch that itch for me. What this means for Live is a different story. Personally, I don’t think it really means anything; this is clearly a different game catered towards a different market, but we’ll see.

This is giving me yugioh duel links vibes. The master duel game is a full fledged tcg game that mirrors actual games in real life. But had duel links to get everyone else to familiarize themselves with the cards, animations, and playing the card game. Probably meant to hook new players to learn the actual game and maybe collect digital cards (NFT vibes here). It'll be interesting to see if there us in-game currency purchased with real money to maybe purchase digital arts of cards.

Another thing worth noting is that weaknesses, rather than being double damage, seem across the board to be 20 extra damage instead.

@@willSolosI mean in theory Yeah, but as far as I know weakness +20 and +30 only really existed during the diamond and pearl era, completely separate from the HP power creep. Hell HGSS even had x2 weaknesses.

If you're referring to set rotation, it's the first set. That usually doesn't start being a thing until you have several sets out.

Yeah, the rule is generally 2-3 years before first set rotation. And if it's always exclusively digital, they don't necessarily need rotation markers, as the cards could simply no longer be pullable/playable. Also keep in mind this is all still in alpha, so they may choose to add set markers at some point.

With what look like energy zones devoted to a single energy type, I'm wondering whether you can only have pokemon with one energy type in your deck. All the screenshots I've seen seem to show decks with only electric type Pokemon or only psychic type Pokemon, etc.

Around 7:23, I spot what might be an icon for said Energy Zone and it's likely that's where it all is as there's not any Energy cards in either hand. There's an Electric Energy icon on the top left where the opponent's bench is and a Psychic Energy icon where the player's bench is.

To me it looks like this may be to fight power creep, like in the video all the basics seem to be useable. Looks like you can use an OG art pika, in current meta. Gives me nostalgia im looking forward to it.

Pretty sick, seems like its going for the feel of the earlier sets, which is exactly what I'm looking for. The modern game has too much shuffling and searching for my liking, the first turns take forever.

Pokemon has something called “My First Battle”. It’s basically 1 active Pokemon, 3 bench Pokemon, an energy zone (where energy stay if your Pokemon get knocked out), 3 prize tokens, a deck of about 20 cards, and you start off with 3 cards in hand. I’m assuming this is gonna be a variant of that. “My First Battle” doesn’t have weaknesses, resistance, retreat, or any card over 130 HP I do not believe. So my idea is it’ll be a very similar battle style with PTCG rules.

Someone noted in the collection screen it looked like there was a 50 next to what looked like a picture of a deck so its possible we'll have 50 card decks. Seems kind of large though.

Maybe you still build the energy zone as a part of your deck despite it being put into a different area? So you can still edit the energy ratios for dragon or other multi type decks?

i mean, nothing's stopping Pokemon from using alot of these cards in a main set or smth for actual competitive play(I'd also assume they'd revise the cards entirely to be inline with the main ptcg) that's what excites me more about this haha

This game reminds me of yugioh duel links. Normally in the yugioh Tcg you have 6 monster zones, 5 spell and trap zones, 8k life points, and a deck size of 40-60 cards. In yugioh duel links the mobile version of yugioh, you have 4 monster zones, 3 spell and trap zones, 4k life points, and a deck size of 20-30. Basically everything is cut in half to make for a faster paced game

Yeah if the Diamond and Pearl experience is anything to go off of this should make matches less swingy, which is probably done to counteract how swingy they are in a 3 prize format with exs.

Tbf Ive never liked the prize system in PTCG 😬 . Not the "your deck isnt complete" deal like that is fine. What Ive never liked is why help the player thats winning. I know counters exist and what not but naturally, it helps the opponent thats winning so yeah. But still idk I tend to not like games that have been simplified 😅

It would be a big deal if this was a game where card draw was scarce. Thankfully it's the Pokemon TCG though, and getting an extra card is a tiny bonus instead of an utterly backbreaking insurmountable advantage. Duel Masters has an inverse of this rule, but I hear the kind of behavior that incentivizes from its players is to sometimes wait until you can beat your opponent outright instead of letting your opponent get any cards. Effective rubberband features are hard to build into cardgames.

Honestly, I've always agreed. My enemy is already winning, why do they get an extra card on top of it? No other game does that, not even other pokemon games. It doesn't make sense and always sucked.

This is just the "my first battle" and card pack opening simulator? Edit: darkness type shown as a weakness and metal type not seen at all. My guess is fire> grass > darkeness > psychic > fighting > lightning > water > fire Is there a chance metal got cut? It has yet to be shown as a weakness and seems a cycle could be complete here in type effectiveness.

Seems like out of the exs we've seen Mewtwo is probably the worst. Sure Pikachu if frail but it is potentially a lot of fast damage. Charizard is slow but is the tankiest, has a move that can oneshot most basics and a move that can oneshot everything. Essentially Charizard is the boss monster archetype. And moltres while not doing a lot on it's own is a Charizard enabler.

So here is what I think Pokémon TCG Pocket actually is. Its going to be similar to the digital sports card market, such as "e-pack" from Upper Deck. This is a digital pack opening app, where you can purchase digital packs and trade your cards with others, something like a NFT for sports cards. Here's the kicker though, you can get exclusive cards that you can physically redeem for and have shipped to you. I have a sneaking suspicion Pokémon TCG Pocket is going to follow this model as well, where most cards are purely digital, however, there are some VERY RARE cards that can be redeemed for physical. If this is the case, this is going to make them mountains of money and therefore is what I believe they are going to do. This does not in anyway, shape or form mean I agree with this approach, but is what I think is coming regardless of whether I agree with it or not. We shall see, only time will tell.

Hmm, there is a website that allows you to do this, like a gacha but you can have them send the cards for real when you redeem them. It would be interesting, as like a special event but the logistics would be insane.

There is a demographic of people who want to play a fast-paced card game (e.g. Marvel Snap). PTCGL does not fall into that category. This game seems to fall in to this category.

Cash grab that's the reason. PTCG live makes them literally $0 you physically can't spend money on the game, but with TCG pocket if you want more than 2 packs per day gotta pay, if u want the nice shiny effect card you gotta pay or get really lucky. If the decks are even 40 card decks and you get 5 cards per pack that would literally take 8 days to even build a deck let alone all the cards you get from the pack all being usable in a deck together. This is literally just a cash grab

This is called double dipping. We buy cards we get codes, they release two mobile games & this one is just a scam. Its not exciting it a gacha scam. It's non-sellable NFT's.
