Police MISCONDUCT? Give me a break. That is police CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. Misconduct is not addressing a citizen with courtesy. Beating, planting evidence, and lying on official reports is criminal. Each member of the law enforcement community needs to be responsible with acquiring and paying for their own personal liability insurance. Cops with multiple claims against them would pay higher premiums, eventually being deemed ‘too hi risk’ and no insurance provider would cover them. No insurance = no job. This would also deter other cops from covering up for bad cops, for fear of their insurance premiums going up by being named. Then for a decent cop, that cop should get a premium freeze if he has no claims for a number of years. Even a premium rebate for lengthy periods without claims.

I make no exaggeration when i say i've binge watched HUNDREDS of police misconduct videos over the last 2 days. They do not hold themselves accountable. I see this anger and mistrust as completely warranted.

That really is a great idea. Just picture this you are a new officer and have to get insurance to become a officer every year your policy has to be review to renew ..your records are then reviewed so now it becomes economic any misconduct or lawsuits filed against you. May get you denial. So much can be done ..why are we making comments and have figured this out .. Unfortunately we have way too many support the police politicians and citizens to ever change that. And I will get political here because the remedy for this is political. The majority of Blue Lives Matter proponents whether regular citizen or cop are Republicans. It's strange how people who claim to want less tyrannical government supports the Blue no matter what. That must change. Democrats also have their loud proponents of Blue Lives Matter supportes but nowhere close to the other side.

At the beginning of this story it was said,"When cops make mistakes,". This is total nonsense. When law enforcement break the law to demonstrate what tough guys they are it isn't a mistake, it's a CRIME. When police officers make "mistakes" the taxpayer pays. From what I see in most videos these aren't "mistakes" most of them either know what they're doing is wrong or they're not sure what they're doing is right but push on anyways. How many times have we seen them cuff someone, then huddle together to "figure" out what to charge that person with? You know why they're not more cautious with making sure they follow the law and a number even don't care if they're following the law? Qualified Immunity. Plain and simple. Get rid of it.
So what is the logic behind the tax payers paying for police misconduct? Take it out of the police fiscal budget or the police Union that will get the Chief s attention.

If somebody makes a mistake, but another person pays for it, the lesson learned is that there are no repercussions for the actions of the one liable. It's like somebody serving jail time and paying the fine for someone convicted of DUI. Of course, the person driving under the influence has no sense of liability because he was never held responsible for his error (i.e., crime). This is why we don't allow this to happen in our criminal justice system.
You have to take away their qualified immunity because as long as no money comes from their pockets they'll continue to abuse their power by committing these heinous acts of brutality

Also it doesn't appear to be for the whole police department, just the Gun Trace Taskforce. So then imagine claims against the whole department in every city. Even more SCARY.
It's sad also that people are fighting back in the wrong way they need to be working hard at having the police departments investigated and all the criminal cops fired and jailed when needed.

Cops should be required to carry malpractice insurance like doctors and lawyers. Once they exceed the policy limit they are immediately removed as officers with qualified immunity stripped away.

I wonder just how much of a city's budget is pre allocated to paying these lawsuits?how much lower could local taxes be if this wasn't the case. If police lawsuit settlements came from either the pension fund or from the officer's own pocket whether insurance or not.
