Since posting, I spent TONS of time modeling and 3D printing mount attempts but never quite got it to a state I felt worthy of sharing. Someone else has come up with a solution, with a full instruction manual and all for the mod! He's not selling the 3D file, but rather a print of it along with well written instructions. Just added the new screen and the SD card to my car this week! I love the size of it, its so clear and makes it much easier to read the map while on my road trip. I didn't modify it yet, just using adhesive.
My Friend makes a mount for the CX-5 Screen to install on the Mazda3. The fit is exactly like OEM. You won't need your jenky Velco setup. Let me know if you interested! We have a Mazda crew with the majority of the Gen4 heavily modded!
This is still probably my favorite mod on my Gen 4. Crazy to say (vs wheels, CAI, exhaust) but it's so nice for day to day stuff. Only tricky part is the mounting. Someone made a great solution for the 3, but not sure it'll work with the CX-30. Either way, you can get creative with it like I did initially in this video 👌
@@eightbitJuan my brother and father are cad/3dsmax guys and I got a buddy who is itching for anything to make on his 3d printer, so I think we will have something figured out 😉 It definitely seems like it would be one of the most useful mods, being that you actually use it every drive.
Great ! Thanks for sharing. Being kind of a disaster with my hands I will wait until someone - hopefully it does not take long - come up with the shell printed in 3D or some chinese company releases a full upgrade kit. My new 3HTPP has less than a month and I don't want to ruin it with my lack of expertise. Now at least I know I will be able to have it someday since I was sick once I heard, just a week after bought mine, that the 2024 will have a larger screen....🤬🤬🤬 Again, thanks for sharing your efforts and success.
The one minor thing I've done is to add some thin foam in the screen housing. It was producing a slight rattle at times but is now all good. Visually though, it is still the same as in the video. Can't imagine going back to stock, the OG screen looks crazy outdated now
Nice video these are the Few videos in this version do know how to eliminate al the plastic sounds in the screen area? I guess it is because the plastic clips 📎
When taking off that speaker grill…. It seems like the speaker wants to come with it.. should I be worried and am I doing this wrong orrrr should I send it
Do you know what does this do to a Bose sound system? I'm thinking about this but if the amplifier inside the radio is not tuned to the Bose system then I'm scared to do all of this and have a worse sound.
I'm sure the price is insane to get a new one, so I'm perfectly happy with my setup. I wouldn't be surprised if the touch part doesn't work without some sort of firmware update on the headunit also
From the driver's POV, not very. You can see a smidge of empty space under the screen but that's about it. From other angles it's slightly more noticeable, but of the various passengers I've had on since not one has noticed anything looking "un-stock". So happy with it overall. Looks WAY better and is also a nice plus to be able to see the rear cam easier.
Not quite, got busy with other mods/upgrades. You can check the forum thread (linked in desc.) as the OP there went about mounting it slightly differently. My only non-scuffed idea is to make 3D printed bracket adapter. Been a while since my last CAD adventure, but I'll pin a comment here if I do ever make a design. Mounting aside I LOVE the screen. Every time I see a stock one it looks ancient now that I'm used to it. Also makes the reverse cam WAY more usable.

There are 3rd party options that replace the screen/headunit. The one I saw was around $500 but it wasn't worth the gamble for me since it'd likely involve extra wiring work. I asked for a review unit and was shot down 🤷♂️
? I was telling you that there are some. The Belsee is the one I was talking about. It's touch but it's probably not something you can just drop in without extra wiring
