Thank you very much for the video! I fixed the spider crack and ghost touch of my 2014 Mazda 3 at the same time. I would like to share my experience. You didn't show how to release the metal bracket from the plastic clips. The video at 4:40 shows the metal bracket in the middle and a plastic piece just above it. I inserted a flat blade precision screwdriver in between and pry the bracket out. It didn't need much force and the bracket came out easily. I heated the old screen with a hair dryer and pushed one side out of the silvery frame, then pried it out with a plastic card. I think that is better than prying with a metal tool.
Thanks for the vid! You uploaded just in time for my increasing ghost touch issues so i bought a new part from Amazon a week ago. It arrived and replaced it yesterday. No ghost touches anymore and screen is bright and clear.
So thankful! This was exactly what I needed for the Mazda I just bought. The new screen was only about $27 on Amazon, but I didn't have a clue how to install it. Much obliged, it's working great
Thanks for the video. It helped tremendously. Goo gone works fairly well for the adhesive. I could not get the tab in so the touch screen doesn’t work. Mazda wanted to charge over $700 in labor so that saved a lot.
Well done video, thanks! A hair dryer will loosen the adhesive of the screen to make removal pretty easy. Just be cautious of the fact that it's in plastic bracket, so I wouldn't recommend a heat gun, just a hair dryer. Thanks again!
Concerning the removal of the glass from the frame, it is preferable to insert our tool from the inside of the frame so as not to damage the plastic of the frame which is fragile. Also, paint thinner using your fingernail or a tool will help remove all the glue that will remain on the frame after removing as much as possible using a blade. And finally, clean the frame with brake cleaner before inserting the new window.
Amazed by mazda then glued the digitizer and lcd to make this kind of home diy almost impossible, i'm lucky with my CX 5 minor lcd black spot when attempted the glued digitizer lcd separation.😂
Wow, my wife's Mazda 3 has been ghosting for about 6 months now, and like others here, I tried resetting/re-connecting/... to no avail. She took it to our Mazda dealer here in the UK with a clear and thorough explanation of the problem, including videos, and the customer service person wrote it down fairly accurately. When we collected the car the result (following £130 for diagnostics!) was 'fault confirmed', it went on to state that liquids had probably been spilled on the wheel system and it would need replacing first (£745) so that they could then run further diagnostics, and that they had never seen this problem before. I was very angry, and I pointed out to the rep that a liquid spill would not explain why the functions don't work when stationary but work perfectly when driving, the rep answered 'that's why we need to replace the wheel system first'. On the drive back I searched for the fault with the actual name of the part (MZD Unit), and your other vid turned up - within 10 minutes I had sourced the fault and found a solution. Now I've seen this one I think I will buy one from Amazon UK (£19.99) and try it. I'll let you know how it all goes, but I feel there may be a strongly worded email to our local dealer!!
The mazda dealer should know better - its a well known issue thats been around for years. There is a TSB from Mazda on this issue (Bulletin No.: 09-045/22). Mazda themselves make specific repair kits available to fix this issue.
@@kernicterus1233 I'm in Canada - so this TSB is specific to North America, but I'm pretty sure the same screens were used globally. Just do a google search for 'Bulletin No.: 09-045/22'. As mentioned, this issue has been around for many many years....if you do a search for ghost touch mazda you'll find lots of forum discussions on the matter. That being said, I'm sure some owners have it and just ignore it. I have a 2017 mazda 3 GT with relatively low mileage (less than 50K kms) and it just stared to develop the screen peeling issue which seems to happen with the ghost touch. As the car itself is in excellent condition, I bought the screen repair kit from mazda and did it myself.
In the UK and the ghosting issue is getting worse, so I’ve found this video at a good time. Sadly we get ripped off too easily in the UK by Companies One question, is the Amazon replacement touchscreen suitable for all Mazda 3s (mine in a 2016 model)?
Hey radi eye vanov, question for you if you don’t mind. I’m having the ghost problem on my 2017 Mazda CX 5. I watched your quicker disconnect video of the front digitizer, so that seems like a quicker fix. Does this front digitizer replacement fix the ghosting problem all together while also allowing you to continue having touch screen functionality? More straight forward is this front digitizer what is causing the ghosting problem? The dealership wants $675 for a new unit and when I brought up “I’ll buy the part and do it myself” I was then told “oh well I wouldn’t attempt it, plus you’d need a software update”… I can’t see a need for a software update if it is just this front digitizer causing the problem. Any thoughts?
Yes, the screen/digitizer is the cause of the ghost touch. It has to do with the touch sensitivity wires/connection within the screen failing over time as it ages and then it thinks it's getting touched when it is not. If you replace the screen altogether like in this video then it will go back to working normally and you will have your touchscreen functionality back. No need for any software update and yes you can totally do it yourself. If you've ever had to replaced a cracked screen on your cellphone this is exactly the same. Nothing needs to be done to the actual phone itself, just needs the screen replaced. Mechanics at dealerships aren't electronics technicians and they aren't allowed to take the unit apart and change individual parts like the screen with third party cheap Chinese screens so they charge you to replace the whole unit unfortunately.
@@radieyevanov ya thanks for that info and the fast response! I have no issue attempting it, but ya your videos were gold man. 🍻 The dealership wants $675 for them to do the work. $275 and change for just the “parts” which I assume means they are replacing that entire screen all together not just a digitizer replacement. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes. Need to find the Mazda CX 5 equivalent digitizer. Are you getting affiliate links for your Amazon links in the description? If so, drop the Mazda CX 5 digitizer in there and I’ll buy it from your link. If not no big deal, thanks again for your time dude! 🙏
@@bestvideomoments194 thanks man, really appreciate the kind words. Feel free to look around obviously but I could only find one option for your year/model on Amazon at the moment. Affiliate link here: amzn.to/3PSH7zH Definitely keep me posted! 👊
No, sorry it will not. The 2017 Mazda 3 screen is different than the ones available on Amazon at the moment. Look at eBay or AliExpress for the 2017 version.
As of right now it looks like third party screens for that year and model are not available on Amazon. I would look at eBay or AliExpress to find some. Or research the part number to see if the screen is interchangeable with others (ie is it the same as the screen in the cx5 for example etc)
Hi There, Thank you very much for this video. I Need to do the same thing on my car and this is a very good help. BTW have you ever had any issues with your passenger side mirror? My mirror stopped folding due to some issue and i replace it for a new one but the new one is already giving me issues again after two years. Is this some chronic issue with the mirror mechanism? Thanks
@@radieyevanov I heard that it is something usual, at least here in europe. BTW i already made the repair in my touch screen and everything went fine. Thanks again for your great tutorial.
Thanks for the vid, just finished replacing mine. In the process I unfortunately lost my 10mil head together with the screw to the oblivion below the screen. Tried to fish it out with a magnet but no luck. Do you happen to remember the sizing on that screw? Was it an M6x30 maybe?
well then I will go and dig up some spare screws and give it some trial and error :) But thanks again for the links and the video, it turned me from being upset with the dealership for trying to charge me 1000 eur to fix it into a happy bee with a functioning screen :)
I'm not sure. We don't have the 2017 Mazda 2 here in the states. It looks like it's the same screen though. I'd try it and if it isn't the same Amazon should let you return it.
@@anthonycasalena3828 I'm sorry, the unit can be found on those sites but the unit does not have touch capability apparently from what I looked up. That's just how it comes from the factory without integrated touch capability.
@@radieyevanov yes, mine somehow had a noticeable amount of dust under the touch screen glass. I planned to open that thing to get rid of the dust. Do you think is it possible to do it with the ribbon pin cable still attached to the main screen?
@@sheenansmith4001 if I'm understanding you correctly you want to peel the screen away without disassembling the unit first. If that is the case, then I would anticipate the screen and or ribbon would get damaged as the adhesive is quite strong.
Yeah, warming up with hair dryer or such is a good idea, but you won't be able to reconnect the ribbon without disassembling the unit. Unless you leave the ribbon disconnected and go without the touchscreen functionality
