Those sharks have to be annoyed by humans... Shark like I can't even eat in peace," I come to the surface to get away from the rest of the crazies to deal with these annoying humans",shark like🤦
and that people who call themselves *EDUCATED* belives the peaceful Baskin shark is a damn *MEGALODON!* is so frustrating that my beard (Who had a beautiful bronze redish colour) has now turned *GREY!*
Exactly, sad reflection of our times when a young person is heard calling it a great white instead of just saying "i wonder what kind of shark it is", dorsal alone confirms its a basking.👍
Justin Case Absolutely correct. Here in NH there are only 2 species that large; white sharks and basking sharks. This was out a few miles according to OP, it was feeding on something we couldn’t see. Either that’s an enormous white shark eating an invisible seal, or a commonly mistaken basking shark feeding on plankton.
Agree its a basking. Thumbs up though to OP not titling it, " HUGE GREAT WHITE SHARK ATTACKS BOATLOAD OF PEOPLE!!!!"...or something silly like in other "shark" videos😋👍
it's phenomenal how often Basking sharks are being imagined on the surface lately when until recently sightings on the surface have been quite rare. I spent 25 years in very sea intensive naval service and never sighted one on or near the surface and only once diving to 90 feet. I don't know what to make of it
Really? I’ve only ever seen them on the surface and it’s absolutely normal to me. That’s where/how they usually feed when they’re passing up the Gulf Stream past the Isle of Man anyway.
Who knows at this point, but it’s certainly cool. Of course, many people mistakenly think that a Basking Shark is a Great White because of the size. At least until they get closer. I’ve seen Great Whites off the Outer Banks but have never seen a Basking Shark. I’ve also seen the fin of a Mola Mola stick up like a shark at a distance.
Great Video 👍 I grew up on the water off Hampton beach fishing daily. Such a beautiful harbor and great fishing also. I remember being 6-7 years old jumping off boats 4 miles off the isle of shoals while fishing lol. Al’s Gaurons fishing charters was always a blast with Rocky, and Maria miss those days
I had breakfast at a restaurant next to Al Gaurons I believe a couple of years ago after seeing Megadeth at the casino ballroom. Was definitely a cool little local spot in the off season, excellent omelette, and the matriarch of the establishment was a real joker. I love that area in the fall when the tourists have split.
@@b-bopeddie1290 the Megadeth show was maybe 4 years ago. Wow, time starts flying. I dont know if you know of the resturaunt I mean, it's a tiny little building, out back of it is patio dining overlooking the "cove"? Next door were guided tours and commercial fishing. Kind of neat, the show was in Sept or Oct so most things were shut down. My brother and I are from up north near the White mts, so it's kind of a treat, or a poor man's adventure, to head south to the coast for some heavy metal, seacoast bar's and diners and gorgeous uncrowded views of the beach. My goofball brother at 2 am says "I'm going in dude. Yeah, that will be awesome". Going in what? The north Atlantic? Not with me Bevis! I was at least able to keep him from that drunken mishap. Lol. That one could've been bad.
I grew up here, and never knew there were GWs until after "Jaws" came out...then I was scared shitless! My buddy took a couple of photos of a 14 footer swimming around his 15 foot boat when they went fishing one year....CRAZY!!!
I lived on Hampton Beach for 10 years, absolutely love it there!! Such a beautiful unique place. That’s a whale watch which makes their trip so much cooler.
A couple things, yes the size looks more like a basking shark because if this was a White Shark it would be probably the biggest ever recorded. But the speed it was swimming and turning seems more like a White Shark and the dorsal fin looks triangular and pointy (like a White) a basking has a triangular dorsal fin but it is more rounded at the top. So not 100% sure but it is amazing how much they look a like except for head and face.
Looking at the dorsal from a narrow angle makes it look narrow. Relatively thin body from dorsal fin back says filter feeder. Also, the tail flop was more irritated Basking than thrust from a White. Basking can swim fast, but not for long distance. This guy slowed again in 4 body lengths.
So someone posted this video on a Hampton Beach page over on fb and they're saying this video isn't legit. What's the deal? Regardless of where or when this was taken, it's an awesome sight to see! Thanks for sharing with the world!
They don't want tourists to be scared off. Could possible be a basking shark, but great whites pop up to the surface too. There are some huge ones off the coast of Hampton.
It IS a basking shark. All Lamniformes (Mackerel sharks) have terminal caudal notches. It’s a mistake you will only make once if that’s what your differentiating surface criteria is between whites & basking🤓
It looks like a great white but it could possibly be a basking shark but they don't usually get spooked by boats like that. Either way it's a big damn fish
I thought at first it was a basking because of the size😳 but basking sharks have symetrical shaped fins...this one has an A-symetrical fin so its a white shark for sure😬
@@GiovanniSpruzzatinia Well, I answered my own question, I was thinking of a “whale shark” which has spots all over it. However, I still do not think this was a “Basking Shark”.
@@GiovanniSpruzzatinia Both great whites and basking sharks have homocercal fins. This was just a basking shark. Scroll down to see the fin comparison. Actually great white tail fins are more symmetrical. www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/discover-fish/species-profiles/carcharodon-carcharias/ www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/discover-fish/species-profiles/cetorhinus-maximus/
Could a swore the size of the aminal it was a baskin shark but off the colour and the tail I really have no idea. Defo don't think it's a great white because if it was it must me nearly 35 ft. Just in my opinion. Anyone else got any idea?
Dorsal and pec fins + the uniform colour points to a basking shark. A great white would have given them a show! They like to let you know exactly what you’re seeing, brilliant catch though, that’s thing was huge
I got a video of a similar shark (same?) taken the same day on the eastern edge of Jeffries ledge. I would love to share with you to see if it’s the same fish.
Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go.
That's really f...ing big I seen one like that with a taller dorsal fin I think she was slightly bigger swimming towards the rocks by big river in mendoceno harbor in NorCal
That is a great white. I've been tracking this mammoth beast since I sighted it off the coast of Marthas Vineyard. This is a male great white as it has larger dorsal fins than the female great white. I estimate it to be over 25 feet in length and close to 10000 pounds. Massive!
Nigel, check your tracking gear. That's a basking shark. Also, 25' and 10k would be about 5' longer and 5k heavier than the largest White ever recorded. Settle.
Just a point of information . . . . it is not a GWS. It has a notched tail, indicating it is a Basking Shark which is more exciting. And if it were a GWS of that size, it would be aggressive toward any boat that got that close and was that obnoxious.
