HUGE Things Are Happening For The Rat Rod Tow Truck! 

Grandpa Sherm's truck is my favorite vehicle on the channel and I think Sherm will approve of the mods. You can tell by Paul's face when he talks about this truck that it's a special vehicle that really means a lot. This build is going to be awesome and built from the heart. "Whole new level of junk collecting." That's why I can never have a roll back. 😀

Sitting here with my 95 year old dad watching your video , I saw how you “lit up as you told us about him and your brothers” !!! I’m so glad you have those good memories of him. That’s what I look back on , good memories of things we did together, when things get ruff with my dad.

When Paul spoke about the dash in his Dad’s truck, the dash reminded me of my Dad’s ‘74 Silverado. The Orange Beast. Had a 350 cubic in her and did I mention it was orange! His dash was cracked just like that one Paul wants to remove. Took be back to about 1984. Thanks Paul!

That old truck definitely has some history in it. You should get all the different pictures of it and put them in order. Then in twenty or thirty years when your kids rebuild it again, they can add that picture to it.

I'd save the battery disconnect switch....just because. Mount it on an inner fender with unconnected wires that disappear to nowhere. It'd make your dad smile. Also, if you're airbagging the rear end, why not 4-link it with a panhard bar and cut away everything behind the back tires? That'll concentrate all the weight ahead of the rear axle, improving weight distribution for towing. Love that truck!

I did a lot of the same stuff with my 84 K30... I really liked the spring pack out of a two ton international truck. I did so much to it, it could of been built by you sorta. hydro system an automatic with divorced transfer case.. used the base of the 440 holms wrecker with my own steel deck an boxes sides etc. 456 gears, pto winches on front and rear plus wrecker system jacked the cab up four inches stainless exhaust system plus bags and air compressor for the short story

Only thought about front bumper is if you go smaller, that's less counterweight for heavy tows especially uphill.

back when the brothers were all in the shop together, Thanksgiving I think, I wanted to see them work on Grandpa Sherm's wrecker together. Hopefully that's the plan. The brothers and the boys working together to keep Grandpa Sherm's memories alive.

Don't forget about working on that off a white car that thing starting to look good but don't paint it or nothing just make it it looks good the way it is little bit of bubbly and wax does a lot for them all cards I'm in really need body style on them card can't the wait and see when you get it all done got to be really cool

I've mounted a bunch of those old snap ring wheels on our old farm trucks. I've never had one come apart on me but i always still wrap them in ⅜ chain

Paul lost my dad when I was 12 years old but taught me so much in short time and most of my memories are for being in the workshop so love watching you build this truck because I know what it means to you Tim for south Wales UK love the show

The International crew cab brings back memories of a single cab my brother came up with. It had a overheated (burned up) 292 in it. My brother found a Chevy 327, that had been sitting in the weeds for who knows how many years. The first one was a long block (had the heads on it) , but it had a spun main bearing, It had a twin short block next to it in the same pile of weeds. The crank was good on the second block, he bought a re-ring kit and I took the best of both worlds and put together an engine. I don’t remember where he found the turbo 350 automatic tranny, but it was free. I built motor mounts and it seems like we used a Ford crossmember and I made it fit together. He went through at least 2 dozen sets of rear tires doing burn outs and spinning cookies in that truck. Then that motor ended up in a 76, 3/4 ton Chevy pickup that lasted for years here in Wyoming, then ended up in Houston, TX. There the motor was swapped into an 85 step side Chevy until he finally sold it 12 years later. Seeing a lot of your projects brings back memories, but seeing the old international, then tearing down grandpa Sherms old wrecker reminded me of some of the vehicles that I put together for my brother. They were always low budget, using whatever parts he could scrape up, sometimes he would go kicking through the weeds to find parts. He was always hard on vehicles, and kept me busy fixing things up for him. In a way I was kinda glad when he moved to Texas it freed up a lot of my spare time, but I sure do miss him. This was a really good episode, it brought back a lot of memories, especially going down memory lane. Keep up the good work and I will be waiting for updates on the wrecker project.

It's always an interesting episode when Merlon shows up with his rollback. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to that crew cab some time in the future. The history of the distruction and reconstruction of your dads old tow truck is classic. Especially the photos of when he tacoed the frame and crushed the cab. The video of him bunny hopping that thing up the canyon it was no surprise that truck was destin for distruction.

Landon, once you have all wires disconnected from the negative batterie post there is no need to worry about sparks or shocks. Keep it up and you'll know as much as your dad in no time.

Love this truck!! Love the history, love that it's a workhorse and it's done so many things it wasn't designed for. This thing is testament to your dad's skill who must have been an awesome guy! That generation gives us something to try and live up to. Can't wait to see the progress on this rig!

My old man and I would talk about building stuff like this when I was a kid, but by the time I was old enough he wasn't able to. So watching you makes alot of new memories. Good advice about split rims. We lost a family friend over a 18 wheeler split rim on his hay truck. It blew apart and the ring cut the top of his head off. Horrible thing to discover when he didn't come to the barn to unload.
