Tips shouldn't even be a thing. Employers should Pay a livable wage and get rid of tipping. The USA has brainwashed employees to think that tips are something to be dependent on when it shouldn't be.
As a consumer, we have to pick and choose battles. Why? There would be very few places to shop at. Almost all corporations do the same thing to unions and treat their employees bad. Omg, the blatantly union busting behavior of the Starbucks executives is appalling! How the actual f**k is this even remotely possible? They should be fined EXTENSIVELY! Like enough to make them hurt. Like no more bonuses for the top executives.
I ALWAYS ask service workers if they have a CashApp or Zelle & I send it that way so they can get their money & not have to split it with these greedy corporations…..
Starbucks closed most of its stores here in Australia because they couldn't screw over employees like they do in the usa and their coffee isn't good compared to the multiple stores we already had.
Tipping sucks so bad. Restaurants shouldn't be tipping consumers. They are no different than Fast Food Burger places where there's a cash register inside an at the drive tru window.
When I waited tables in college many, many moons ago the restaurant owners (two brothers) took the credit card transaction fee, back then 3 1/2 %, out of the tip when it was charged to the card.. we got around it when we asked customer to tip us cash, most were regulars and did and not happy with the owners siphoning money from mostly colleges kids. The owners were slime ball POS and we were happy when the place failed a couple years after I started there.
Never shop at Starbucks now. I always look for small but good quality coffee shops now. Not always easy…but always worth supporting small local businesses.
I have never had a cup of Starbucks and now definitely will not. I travel the world and coffee is simply better than Starbucks. That being said I agree if I want to tip in anyway then I can. I hope they each employee gets $100+K.
Former barista at Starbucks here, while I was in college it was a livable wage. I did have leads at my store who were single mothers and struggling to survive. In addition to that, if not to increase wages, Starbucks partners must unionize to institute accountability for the horrible Karen’s running the show as managers and the worst offenders, district managers. The hierarchy at Starbucks was disgusting. Rich middle aged Karen’s would frequently enter the store and demean workers for not keeping the store spotless (in the middle of afternoon rush where we only had 2 folks after 2:30 PM till close). Howard Schultz was seen as a hero when I was a partner about 8 years ago. I remember getting a copy of his book when I joined, and I thought wow what an empathetic leader. This is absolutely disgusting to see. What a vile old bag.
It shouldn't be on the middle-class customer to pay workers a living wage through tipping in the first place. It should be on the far wealthier people in charge of these companies, people who can far more easily afford to pay it.
It should be, but it isn't. It sucks, but if you've ever worked for tips you know that it's hard work for not very much money. I almost always tip 20 percent, unless the server is a jerk.
I completely agree however in this case I don't believe tips are factored into the Starbucks pay rate they're not like a server at a restaurant. Think about it have you ever felt pressured to tip a Dunkin Donuts employee? This was about Starbucks refusing to allow their employees to receive tips from customers who just out of the kindness of their heart felt like giving them a tip but only had a credit card so presumably if they did leave a gratuity it would just go to Starbucks and not the employee or not allow for tip to either. Either way it's a crystal clear case of petty union busting for them to allow it in non union stores.
Unfortunately any fines the NLRB can give SB is just the cost of doing business. We need to allow fines to go up so much higher on billion dollar multinational corporations before any *real* progress can be made
I stopped going to starbucks unless I know it is a unionized store. I'll go to Dutch Bros. or just not get coffee but my money goes to support unions. We should all vote with our dollars and this crap will stop. If the non union stores bring in way less money they will have to go union you know for the share holders.
Home made or gas station coffee is the best....and no tipping needed. But hey, if people must have a heart shape on top of their coffee and leave a tip (because who can put a price on that), well that's their business.
I was about to send Starbucks gift cards to all eight of my siblings just to let them know I was thinking about. Now I'm switching to Dunkin which is superior anyway 😅

The issue isn't whether or not tipping is deserved at Starbucks. The issue is that when customers tip, they're tipping the workers who are preparing their orders, NOT the investors and company owners. This is an ethics issue. Stay on topic.
I wish the cops,firefighters, and Post Office workers' own unions would defend the Starbucks employees against the Starbucks corporation. Imagine if government employees labor unions showed support to civilian workers in their own struggles.

Tipping? Who tips anymore? Tipping was for those workers that received below minimum wage and that the tips they collected made up for the difference. With workers being paid the wages they are these days, I see no reason that they should get anything on top of that.
You've obviously never had to wait on someone or tend bar. The national tipped wage hasn't been raised in decades and it's far below the regular minimum wage for other workers. It's simply not enough to live on without tips. Don't blame the server, they didn't set it up this way---and even $15 per hour is still starvation wages.

Small detail. In Union stores, customers still allowed to leave tips via credit cards? When the customers actually leave tips via credit cards, who got the tips? Then the other thing they didn't mention is what Starbucks did would also considered to be "wage theft".
What back water State are you from? I was making 20 " bucks " an hour 40 years ago. My wife and I both retired make way, way more than that. So you begrudge the tiny amount of tips they get? Starbucks and tipping seems nuts. People hear already make 15 dollars an hour. I started out with eight dollars and hour and was thankful for that. Then they want a 15 percent tip on top of that? I'm glad I make my coffee at home for 40 cents, which is by far a much more reasonable cost. Even McDonalds raised their prices with these insane minimum wage laws and now there is no dollar coffee. It's no wonder stores are forced to have self check out and online orders to cut these insane costs. I wish people in office would think of the consumers for once. We want lower prices.
If you don't like your pay etc go get a different job there are tons of other jobs available right now. Your job is low skill therefore it doesn't pay well..

Personally I’ve been a life guard, a bus boy, a dishwasher, a janitor, a line cook, a sandwich delivery boy, a front of house manager, a server, a bartender, currently journeyman inside wireman after years of apprenticeship, and by far the worst effort to pay ratio job I’ve ever had was when I was a Starbucks barista. That shit was difficult never stopped the whole shift and paid like garbage. I quit after a month and started serving at a fancy French restaurant making 40/hr. Know your worth.
