Warning to anyone coming from high refresh rate gaming monitors: The input lag on my Huion was almost a dealbreaker, especially noticeable with the cursor lagging behind the pen. Not one review will tell you about this but be prepared for 2-4 frames of input lag, roughly equivalent to a bad v-sync that you can't switch off. I did eventually get used to it, but it took a while. Disabling the cursor helped, as did making sure to get the pen calibration spot on. Eventually you feel like you're drawing with the plastic nib instead of the cursor.

So which Huion do you have? I am in the process of buying a pen display tablet and right now it stands between the Huion Kamvas Pro 24 4K and the Wacom Cintiq Pro 16. Lag/latency, parallax, laminated, etched glass etc. are definitely the most important aspects for me. I NEED to make sure I get a tablet that feels as much as possible like drawing on paper. I do not want a cursor hanging after the pen nib.

I still have my 5 year old 24" Huion 1080p tablet , which btw had the same exact stand , pen , accessories and looks identical to that one. Solid product Their software can be a pain sometimes but for $600 (5 years ago) I cant complain. I ended up using the keydial as a macro pad for my sim racing rig lol. Cable is still in the same place. I've miraculously not damaged it in 100s of hours of art.

Im so glad to see someone who actually encourages their audiende to check out long term reviews . My XPpen was GREAT for about 1-2 months . . Then i started having major issues due to the cable . The screen would flash obnoxious colors if the cable was moved even slightly in the wrong way , which unfortunately resulted in seizures . I wish i had watched a long term review of the tablet before buying :\

@@didi7074 i have used the xp pen 22 pro for around 3 years without major issue except that the pen calibration setting would reset when i restart my computer which is annoying but not the worst thing in the world. I have also extensively been using both the 13.3 pro and my classmate has been using the artist 10 2nd gen for for about 5 months (we got ours at the same time) and both have been working flawlessly. one thing to also mention is that we both use these tablets mostly on the go as we are students and we use them in class and at cafes and etc. I actually like how the 2nd gen 10 inch supports use of thunderbolt as i dont like having only 1 option for cable solutions. aka if i need a replacement i can buy any off brand one to replace it. if you care i also use the kamvas 24 pro at home. and my classmate uses a cintiq 16 pro. edit - you will run into driver issues if u try to use different tablet brands on the same deviec. my laptop has the xp pen drivers and my desktop has the huion drivers

Ok, I’m the one who owns the 2021’s Huion 16 (or whatever naming is, pen display in 1920x1080). There were no such thing as 4k or qhd back then within Huion and the display was kinda high-end, at least for them. What I see now is the new stuff - new display, full lamination, new pen and nibs. Even new stand (and it’s waaaay better). I’m the owner of the previous kinda-top-version and this one is like completely different product. This is past-wacom-patent era, everything changing every day. I don’t think that we will ever see the "pros and cons over time" for this type of product - it will be replaced in just a few years completely. And boy-oh-boy - I really understand why.

Intuos Pro 2019 has express buttons with touch sensitivity so that the tablet recognizes when you touch your finger on a button. _Not pressing a button, but making physical contact with it._ Wacom uses this to tell you on the right side of your screen what button you're touching and what it does. This is brilliant! Why don't we see this on other tablets with buttons or express keys?

i'm so glad you did this review! One year ago i was looking for reviews from digital painters before buying my current huion tablet and it was so hard to find someone who worked with a more painterly approach (instead of cartoony, not even precise lines). I have a kamvas pro 16, i prefer smaller canvas. The specs are the same of your model except my model came out more recently and they actually improved the cable! Mine has a double usbC angled plug on the side of the tablet that goes into one hdmi and one usb3. Still not optimal, it's also a bit too short for my likes, but it's still better than your model :/ It feels like a solid cable. Despite the many calibration options this tablets have, i found that the best way to calibrate colors on windows is to use windows own calibration screen utility. Instead, the pen pressure can be nicely calibrated with a curve and it actually saved me from not liking the tablet because i wasn't liking the default settings. Now i just have to hope this tablet lasts at least 4 more years xDD

There is a 90 degrees L-shapes tiny usb-c male to female small adapter that will make the cable face down instead of straight to the left. Should clear out the space. I used it with the cinqic pro 16 because the cintiq too had ports pointing out to the sides.

Very cool review! Have the 22 Plus and really like the texture of the screen. It feels nice to draw on. Also really like the stand, because it is nice and sturdy, so every time my cat rubs his head against the display, it doesn't move. The Keydial on the other hand drives me insane because it does not work properly with my mac, even after reinstalling and updating the drivers multiple times. The pen holder can double as a cup holder, though... especially if you are seeking for more adrenaline at your workspace.

I have had this 24+ for several months, so far so good, an improvement over my decade old 22HD. One thing that the Huion WON'T do is run a pen tablet + pen display on one device sharing the SAME pen.I used the same pen with a med intuos combined with my 22HD. Sadly not possible with Huion. My solution is to use a Wacom Intuos w the Huion 24+ but that means two different pens.

IMHO.- I'm a left handed. When I start a new program, shortcuts are the key to have a better work flow. Sadly, not all think about this issue. I own two pen tablets, both Huion, HS64 and Inspiroy RTOP700, both have the capacity to be friendly with my left hand when I draw. Shortcuts are awesome but try to hit with your right hand CTRL-Z while your left hand can't left your drawing area. Some people sais 'you have to remap your shortcuts' so CTRL will now your new 0_numpad or something like that, so another learn curve. So the key-dial I think is perfect, the right tool for the right job. At least in my country, you can get the same key-dial for all tablets. I'm not complaining about to be left handed. And the review is excellent.

Thanks for the review! Pretty sure XP-Pen has solved cable management problems on Artist 22/24 (Gen 2) and Artist 22 Plus by adding a cable rack and a cover, so the tablet should be as clean.

I would definitely like to see a long term review on some of these newer displays/brands like Huion and XPen. People love to hate on Wacom products because of the price BUT I will say from my experience Wacom products last a LONG time!!! I had my original bamboo tablet for 10+ years, and I've had my Intuos and 16inch Cintiq for 6 years, all of which have never given me any problems.

@bereal8253
@bereal8253 10 месяцев назад
I mean, you don't know the longevity of other products simply because you haven't used them though, right? How do you know the others won't last a long time as well? Similarly people gush about iPhones saying they last a long time, as if it's an edge over android, which doesn't do the same. Idk I have a decade old note 3 that still works and functions like a device that old would. My point is, you wouldn't know the longevity of a product you haven't used over a long period of time. So it really isn't something you can compare devices based on. Durability is important, but often more difficult to determine than that. I find people say that (and I don't mean to say this to you personally) when they don't see any immediate advantages or features that they paid an extra $500-$700 for.
@Vmshipe
@Vmshipe 10 месяцев назад
@@bereal8253 I feel like we're comparing apples and oranges. Most of the new tech feels like it's riding on planned obsolescence. It's cheap but not built for longevity, meaning you'll have to buy another product sooner and in the long run end up paying more money then if you would have bought the more tried-and-true expensive model to begin with.

My cintiq Companion lasted 3 months before it stopped charging. it was Wacom's first time making a computer and it was an absolute disaster. Cintiq and Intuos pros have been made for a very long time and are very dependable- I'm currently using a 2013 intuos pro in 2023 and while pen pressure is limited to 2K levels, it is way more comfortable and smoother to use than the current gen intuos basic models. I think all of Wacom's computer models ended up failing in one way or another, so we haven't seen a new generation of those in several years.

Some thoughts on the critiques. Viewing Angle: From an actively drawing on it perspective, yep 100% worthless totally agree. They hype it too much, yep agree. I think the important bit though is that as a more budget friendly option, they will likely be used a 2nd Monitor quite often where the viewing angle being good is a more important issue. Very much ignored the fact that a pen display is still a monitor, and some people might use it as their only monitor for all uses as well. Cables: Mostly agree, I just know the hope of a single thunderbolt and that's it, becomes a problem as the screen and resolution gets bigger due to the full power draw required, Brad's review of most larger pen displays says the same, but just a USB-C and a well functioning/placed power cable would be nice. Just because a motherboard has a thunderbolt usb-c port doesn't mean it can actually throughput the amount of power some of the larger and higher resolutions displays require. Edit: Also been using an older 16" Kamvas GT-156HD V2 for about 4 years now with a ton of time spent as just a spare monitor, works just fine still. Looking into upgrading to either a higher resolution larger screen one with vesa in the near future. Unless they seriously messed up, with proper care and handling i see no reason why someone can't get half a decade out this one. My biggest problems were choices I made in the purchases (smaller, cheaper, lower resolution, no vesa, etc.) than the actual product itself.
@Dan-kb2oz
@Dan-kb2oz 5 месяцев назад
That's pretty odd as a Kamvas Pro 12 user the USB-C connector into the pen display is L shaped so it doesn't really stick out but instead runs up or down along the edge depending on which way you plug it in. I also haven't noticed an HDMI looseness in my GPU,

If it was me looking for hardware, I would buy an iPad or a good monitor + graphics tablet. I think both of these options are a much better use of your money than a pen display. With the iPad you get a computer and portability. With the latter you get to have whatever monitor you want, maybe a higher quality (one of the comments says this one has input lag), and the fact that the drawing part is disconnected from the screen facilitates a proper posture. For some people pen displays produce shoulder/arm/neck problems.

Mine stopped working RIGHT after the warranty expired. My experience of contacting support was not good, as I was told there was nothing that could be done for the tablet monitor due to the warranty being expired. Now I'm looking for a Cintiq which is far more reliable and better quality. On a good note, it did last two years and got me through my first game dev gig. It worked perfectly when it did and made my workflow breezy. Too bad Huion support is unreliable.

So, just to mention. This is not the same pen as it was in 2021 with Huion 16 HD displays. This one is a kinda shift into wacom-style of the pen nibs (they also added some stuff inside I suppose) and since I have the previous version and I do have some problems with it over time - this is a Major Plus. So, what problems? If you really use your stuff - a lot of plasticy feelings. Previous pen is just not really meant to be used - a lot of nib creaks, a lot of pull it off and wipe with alcohol cloth. The nib was kinda rubbish with a bit of a wiggle. But! This is all the old stuff, here’s the different thing.

Slight correction: 1440p is four times HD, which is 720p each, hence Q[uadro]HD. And now it make sense that 1440 is double the 720 lines of HD :) 1080p is named FullHD, four of it gives you 4k or 2160p, which is again double the lines of 1080p. (if somebody wonders what "p" stands for - it's "progressive scan" defined in opposition to "interlaced scan" which is an old method of video rendering where on each consecutive frame image gets updated only on odd or even lines to provide illusion of desired frame rate with only half bandwidth, and with current technologies it's just terrible tech)

I don't have too much space on my desk so it's nice to raise the VESA when I'm done drawing. Every damn time I move the tablet around, I gotta watch the stupid cable head sticking out of the side.
