I love how this universe started off with the goal of basically making superheroes less convoluted, starting with Spiderman who was still a decent guy and then they hired writers who turned everyone else into the kind of people who would exist in The Boys.
@@cristianobrogna1225 "realistic" there's the magic word it's a comic/ fantasy there's a reason most classic heroic tails stay timeless while mose "modern/realistic" takes on them are very interesting at first but never stay long-term, best example being the ultimates universe.
The thought of Hulk rampaging through the city completely shit-faced and trying to “smash” because Banner refused to touch grass is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while
@@macro3751 Ennis is capable of great stuff with a good editor to keep him in line- Millar is just mediocre at best most of the time though I did like Super Crooks a lot.
I genuinely hate how Mark Millar ruined a legitimately good scene with Thor vs Hulk by making Hulk say that Thor's attacks made him "horny for Betty again", my god
The Ultimate comics were certainly...something, but one thing that stuck with me was the sheer amount of cannibalism present in some stories, specially this universe's version of Venom, since it was more of a parasite it actually was eating Eddie from inside out so it needed to feed on other beings to survive, and man, the way they depicted Venom assimilating other people was disturbing, in many pannels you could see the despair of the victims while being assimilated by the black suit, to these days it gives me chills.
A lot of people think that Venom is a cannibal but the original 616 venom doesn't eat people, he's a complex anti-hero with complex morals. Instead people are thinking about the 1610 Venom and Mac Gargan Venom both versions love eating anyone. In fact the The 1610 ultimate universe symbiotes are much more creepy, animalistic, and wild than the Klyntar symbiotes.
Am I the only one who finds it incredibly stupid that they were all bullying the guy whose suppressed anger surfaces as a literal indestructible rage monster? Like, no one was surprised that night when they found out Hulk was going on a rampage, right?
I think by that point he couldn't transform into the Hulk anymore, then he decided to inject himself with a bigger dosis with the Cap's blood mixed in it
We always bash the A-list heros for their plot armor, but Giant Man cupping The Hulk like a bug and calling him _"little man"_ without getting his hands ripped off def qualifies, imo. Also, Hulk comparing being beaten by Thor's hammer to foreplay is just...wow. Ultimate Hulk is a nightmare.
There was a 2006 animated movie based on this team And with a similar scene Except when the Hulk broke out of his hand, he went straight for Hank's throat, squeezing it until he passed out. He then tried to cave his chest in with a jump but was interrupted mid air
In the Ultimate Universe, almost all the Avengers were as strong as each other like the Justice League members. While weaker than the Hulk, they can still damage and go to toe with him. Similar to how Green Lantern and Aquaman can go toe to toe with Superman but still lose. So it's not plot armor.
@Ant the Fool well in the ultimate universe, Mjolnir is just really freaking heavy, so it's a bit less impressive But still cool when he smacks Thor with it
Between this, Wasp flashing him and many MANY other stuff we can conclude that the Ultimates really didn't know how to write women as anything but horny sluts
The Ultimates and Marvel Max is Marvel's reaction to DC's (thanks Vertigo and Kingdom Come lol) gradual yet drastically dark tone in the 90's and the more edgier independent prints like Image Comics.
@C R for a lot of comic runs set in that Earth yes. But the Ultimates is the reason we got Samuel L. Jackson as Fury, the 2008 Iron Man film (aka MCU) and Miles Morales.
@@Noor-rk9sf I mean yeah, good things came out of a bad place and were done better by other writers. That's weirdly common for Mark Millar (the main Ultimates writer); he has a history of making terrible, juvenile, edgy comics, that other people adapt into pretty good stuff.
If I remember Correctly in this comic, when Captain America was in the Tank He Mocked The Hulk by Saying Hulk was Gay and He Literally Shouted "HULK STRAIGHT"
it actually happened afterwards, during the Chitauri invasion Captain America lied to the Hulk, saying the aliens called him a sissy boy. Hulk believed him and attacked the spaceships
and it wasn't the first time it happened. Right before this happened, Captain America was fighting against an alien who went by the name of Kleiser, but couldn't defeat him. What he did next was tell the Hulk that said alien was having an affair with Betty while he was in prison. The Hulk then proceeded to beat up the alien until his healing factor was barely working and then ate him
The panels of it where the wasp flashes the hulk in the hopes of calming him down, reminds me of an Irish Myth of Cu Chulainn. In the story Cu Chulainn had been enraged and transformed into a grotesque monster (his riastrad), and the people of ulster had no way of calming him down. So they gathered up the towns women and flashed him, embarrassing him long enough for the men to grab him and tods him into a barrel, which exploded due to Cu Chulainn's body heat. The second barreled boiled and evaporated, and the third managed to calm him down and revert him back to his child state.
I always find it funny when people in the comics belittle or insult Bruce. Then act shocked when the Hulk comes out and goes on a rampage. It's like punching a hornet nest and then acting suprised when the Hornets choose the path of Unimaginable Violence!
Never will i forget the panel when Cap was told to surrender to which Cap promptly nearly sliced the villain in half with his shield before pointing to the letter on his head shouting "YOU THINK THIS LETTER ON MY HEAD STANDS FOR FRANCE!?"
@@roachdoggjr1454 I cant remember if it was ultimates or not but I remember quite a few weird stories involving the fantastic four. Maybe not all looking bad but probably mr. fantastic. could be wrong.
@@Worstedfish Reed tends to be a dick in basically any dimension, except Ultimate, where, since everyone else is a raging asshole, Reed's normal brand of self-absorbed dickery tends to pale in comparison.
The reason why the other ultimate comics doesn't work in terms of making their characters into A holes like ultimate spiderman is because ultimate spiderman is actually a teenager so it's a lot more reasonable for him to act as such (even if he doesn't mean to come off as a jerk on purpose). Also most of the other ultimate comics (other than ultimate daredevil and ultimate fantastic 4) sucked because they had weak plots and dialogue
Hulk technically can't even get drunk. His healing factor gives him an incredibly fast metabolism that almost instantly filters the alcohol. He also can eat as much as he wants without gaining weight.
@George Snell banner can but hulk can't, there was a comic where she hulk needed to get stronger so she worked out for a few months and trained mma and when she turned into she hulk all that extra strength got multiplied and she was a beast in combat
Wtf, just wtf. Its messed up that Bruce & Hulk did all of that because he's horny, what's even more messed up is that Betty thought it was flattering. Hulk: *Smashes and kills countless of people in Manhattan* Betty: *waterfalls*
"Okay, so the ultimate universe is essentially putting famous marvel characters into the real world...What do you think would be the best way to do that?" "I dunno mate, let's make most of them creepy arseholes"
I like how edgy teenagers like yourself think realism/Real World is everyone is an immoral asshole/Supervillain. You're the type of person who think The Boys, is peak Superhero media.
I remember I got this comic, from a hulk comic book mashup. I was confused, like why it was so weird, when comparing it to what I was expecting, and why was it so bad. I was kinda small though, and I kept observing wasp's side melons.
I kind of feel bad for Bruce he was surrounded by assholes and then when he was weak and now in control of himself Captain America of all people hits him. IDK I guess it feels weird to see them act like characters from a bad adult cartoon.
I can't deny a part of me wants to know Hulk's game plan if he got Betty. There's no way she'd survive anything he did, so ... was he just happy with cuddles and sweet talk?
I don’t think Hulk “clapping” Betty is even physically possible 😂☠️. We need one of these science RU-vidrs to break down the science of “The Hulk Clap”
Honestly, the Ultimates cartoon did such a better job at making this fight work. It literally goes from "Oh good, it's the Hulk looking for a fight" to "OH GOD THE HULK'S LOOKING FOR A FIGHT" real quick whilst not making the entire cast look like jerks.
I gotta be honest. While the bad aspects like cannibalism, jerky nature and unnecessary violence are messed up, the good parts like the calm moments when some of these characters (mostly Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye and Wasp) act like real friends; calm down a while; having some character development; them not always acting like jerks; the cinematic scope; nostalgic feeling from the 2000s as a millennial; the realistic and modern aesthetics; and inspiration for the MCU are what made me come back for the Ultimates 1 and 2 along with Ultimate Spider-Man when it comes to Ultimate Marvel.
the ultinmate comics runs started so good in my opinion. not perfected, but great. They had room to improve and make it really good, make the world grounded and reall yet still being si-fi, have characters be real yet still likeable, have characters go through tragedy and arks, and not make it drepresson 24-7. It's to bad that didn't happen. I mean, what the f@#$ck happend. It just got worse, incestaul, and cannibalistic. I think the writters were given way to much creative controll beause it wouldn't mess with their main line of books, so they did just allowed them to do whatever they wanted. Just because they are good writers doesn't mean they don't have bad ideas.
I think it's more like nobody stepped in and reminded them 'these are super hero stories. You're supposed to root for the heroes because they are good people, flawed, but good.' instead they went with 'everyone sucks, these people just suck in a way that ISN'T completely abhorrent'
@@DBfan106 ultimate spider man worked since Peter was good but flawed since he was a teenager who make stupid choices I think that's why that one is remembered the most

And you want to know what's worse? The animated movie based on this abomination was written by the same guy and it was A LOT better than what they printed for us What was holding him to write this thing right?
I only liked the ultimate Spider-Man But the part that where so disturbing and made me stay away from the ultimates Was the hulk being a porn dog and also cannibalism and black widow being a Russian agent who killed Jarvis and murdered Hawkeye family
I really love Ultimates 1 and 2 because you're not supposed to take them seriously. They're like if Michael Bay made an Avengers movie. Genuinely funny dialogue and fun action sequences. These characters aren't meant to inspire or be heroes. These are the lunatics you get to save the world.

I would have made the Hulk rampage the city in an attempt to attract and kill those Ultimates for being jerks towards Banner Like punishing the half of NY for what they did to him (i know this reason might not be original but it's way better than Hulk wanting to clap Betty's cheeks)
I can't actually believe that The Hulk smashed half of new York and killed probably thousands just to "smash" Betty. Ultimate universe fucked up bro👁👄👁
I swear the only good run of the ultimate comics was Spider-Man. But that was mainly because Brian-Michael Bendis actually knew how to write good stories and characters before he forgot how to
And I know there's zombie Marvel universes where people literally get eaten and disemboweled every single day. But this truly has to be one of the most disturbing and disgusting Marvel universes I've ever witnessed. 🤮😷
At least in the zombie universe, the zombies have a odd tradegy going on. If they don't eat flesh, they lose the craving so the fact they ate entire worlds shows how little willpower they have.
That was the entire point of the ultimate universe where the characters were complete opposites of their 616 prime counterparts the only one who remained noble and caring was Spider-Man
@@Mannyhdz0052 The original point of the Ultimate universe was just to begin it all over again, have the characters fit better into a more modernized world, and not have so many years worth of continuity baggage. And who cares anyway -- it was disgusting and shitty whether someone meant it to be or not. I don't make friends with people who set out every morning to be disgusting and shitty either.
Honestly they should of just use the Max series for this types of shit they we're doing in the Ultimate since the Max was dark and gritty and scream The Boys vibes.
@@TitularHeroine then you missed the entire point of the ultimate universe while it's technically set in a more serious realistic perspective tone it shows how superheros would be If they were more grounded, it's something that has been established throughout the ultimate comics idk why you are acting brand new lmao
