I've got one and agree with everything you said Mark. For those detractors, you have to remember that this is designed primarily as a tradesman's knife (I think the handle is made large to allow a tradesman wearing gloves to use it) but with a little work makes a great budget bushcraft knife. I also found the handle texture not quite right so I used a piece of inner tube rather than tape. As you said, the spine can be sorted out with a file in 5 minutes. It's a robust knife (probably most comparible with a mora robust) which will take a beating and ideal as a starter knife (especially for those with big hands). Price point varies and this may be a decider depending on where you are. In the UK we can get it for the equivalent of 17 CA$ delivered. Lose it, break it or muck it up learning to sharpen and it's easily replaced at that price.

G'day mate, yep good comment all round. I dont mind some of the more cheap and cheerful handle materials they use these days, but assuming you have a good fit, a bike inner tube is a ripper solution to add some grip/girth, you could probably do 2 or 3 layers if need be. I've always thought of them for slingshots and fire starting flame extenders, or as a ranger type elastic band for retention of various things. Just goes to show, you never stop learning. Have a good one !!!. Cheers Duke.

I have this one and it is my go-to knife for yardwork, I strap it on every time I step out the door (mine has a long paracord loop through the sheath so I can carry it diagonally from right shoulder to left armpit, or 'diagonal neck carry' if you wish...). It is insanely strong, designed to be used on construction sites, and to be hit with a hammer, both on the spine and on the pommel. In fact, I also have a wood chisel from Hultafors and apart from the colour that has the same handle. The hidden tang is long and sturdy enough to not break (JoeX did not manage to break this knife, he gave up at the end!), and the long handle provides a massive hard plastic pommel to hammer on that will not split apart, as it might have done if the tang were longer all to the end. For what it is, it is also insanely cheap. Price here in continental Europe was just 9 euros. Nine. As in less than ten. Nice to know is that Hultafors is not just a knife company (they outsource them to a Taiwanese factory that uses Japanese SK5 steel for the carbon versions, some people suspect that it's the same OEM factory that does the Cold Steel SRK). It is a tool company that makes and sells all sorts of construction hand tools, including very good shop saws, hammers, chisels and all kinds of carpenter's rulers and measuring implements. They invented the folding carpenter's ruler. They are also part of a group of brands that includes the Snickers brand of work clothes, and of course they have several equipment vests that include belt-level hammer loops and dump bags for tools, nails and such - and on the chest, a large button to clip one of their knives on. So the GK and Craftsman knives are really part of a craftsman's tool system. That they are also very useful for bushcrafting and general outdoor use is a nice extra... lol. They have some fun specialty knives as well, for little money. There is one for painters, essentially a stainless Craftsman with a tip that doubles as a screwdriver to unscrew wall outlet covers to paint behind them and screw them back on, and a notch to open paint cans; and a plumber's knife that has a file engraved on one side of the blade, to finish the ends of plastic hoses and pipes afer you cut them off with the knife. And so on. Often so cheap that you can get them essentially for free by adding them to an order to just pass the limit for free shipping... ;-) I like these. I feel that on a one-on-one basis they are just a tad better than equivalent Moras - the GK for instance has a higher/thinner and thus slicier main grind than a thicker Mora like the Robust or Heavy Duty (20 degrees included or 10 per side versus 28 degrees/14 per side for 3 mm thick Moras), but I found that it holds its edge better then a Mora HD. End of story is that I now have a collection of Moras and a collection of Hultafors knives... And neither has broken the bank.

The Hultafors are my favourite building knives as they are inexpensive, very good blades and built like tanks. I have an OK4 for outdoor use as the handle is more comfortable and the sheath is made to fit a belt. These HDs are ideal as a starter knife as they're very forgiving of mistakes but you have a good bit of steel to learn things like sharpening that won't break the bank if it goes really wrong!!! Theyre good fun too because they're almost impossible to break but are good knives. Thought you'd put hockey stick tape on the handle which would have been the most Canadian thing you could have done! 😂😂😂

G'day mate, yep good work around, I do like a dangler for bushcrafty type knives, mind you I'd be happier if they just made this one able to cope with HD belts. i..e. one still wouldn't have to remove ones belt and the reverse design naturally jams the thing captive against ones hip. Cheers Duke.

PS are things normally more expensive in Canada? average UK price for these the GK £7-10, the Craftsman £5-8, the Craftsman also comes with s blue handle denoting a stainless blade if you wish to use it for food prep, the blade of the GK is also the basis fir the slightly more upmarket OK1 and OK4 models, and for a bonus they have a model the precision knife which is heading towards the style of a Sloyd type knife with the polymer handle for comfort atb Bill

The Canadian dollar is as a general rule of thumb worth half as much as Sterling so 15.99cdn is roughly £7.50. I've travelled between the two countries and when you're used to Sterling everything seems ridiculously expensive in Canada for a while and you don't want to buy anything.

Thanks for the review, Mark! That sounds like a real competitor for Mora on a bang-for-the-buck comparison. I'll have to look into seeing what they're going for in the US and see if it's worthwhile getting one as a spare. EDIT: It's actually a little bit more expensive on Amazon (cheapest price I could find online) in the US than it is in Canada. Not much, $18.49 USD, so still well within what I'd consider a budget-knife price range.

It might be that high frequency you can only hear if you're under the age of about 30, some supermarkets in the UK use these "mosquito" devices to stop teenagers hanging around outside, would you believe! Great video otherwise, I don't know why Hultafors isn't as well known for their knives in the US and Canada as Mora. Marttiini also, great value knives. I have the Timberjack and the Snappy. High quality wood handled knives with leather sheaths for >£30!

I sanded the finger guard down on the craft knife works much better as a craft knife now. It is a for crafting not for bushcraft in my opinion. I've had both these knives for years, the heavy duty knife is solid, I sharpened it to a zero scandi then turned it into a scandi vex

It's the 'all you need' knife. When I started the Dutch Bushcraft Association back in 2011 I wanted a strong budget knife for students to use and possibly buy as their first knife for less than 10 euro. This is the one and never seen one break. Some people with smaller hands (mostly women and children) found the handle a bit long and bulky so I also had the HVK (orange handle) and RFR (blue handle and stainless) for sale. Even JoeX could not break this Hultafors GK. It's simply the best budget knife.

G'day Mark, like the Bushcraft Black, ..... without ever holding one, .... the ergos look outstanding. The reverse belt clip is a great idea IMO, but an excellent mod on your part to cater for its inadequacies + add a height adjustable dangler at the same time. 17 bucks in AUD here, shipping would be around 8 or 9 bucks so you'd be up for 25 - ish, a fraction cheaper than a Companion before shipping. If I didn't have 3 Moras already, I'd probably buy 2 of these. Btw; I did end up purchasing a Terava Puukko 140, ... missed your discount code by 24 hours, .... c'est la vie. ; ) I suspect you're happier with the 110 mate, though the 140 has filled a niche for me and very glad to have it. @@MarkYoungBushcraft Hahahaha, you got me there Mark. Yes indeed, I have the TS 240 and I was think'n about a piggy back carry mod, but the sheaths are so good as is, I couldn't bring myself to mess with them. Maybe that's one for Terava to think about, i.e. a dual sheath, either with the blades included or as an option for those that already have them. On second thoughts that would be 4 variants for different size combos, probably too much to ask.

Long slow standing ovation for this company. Don’t try to tell me companies who are charging $200 for a knife aren’t gouging the clients. Yes they’re way nicer, but the blades aren’t made of gold, and sharpening isn’t that big a deal. It’s more in the handles. But still, 10, 15 times the price? I don’t think so. If you have the money and are willing to pay the price, that’s your choice, no judging, but it’s not a linear curve on return of investment vs quality. Good to go is a decent store. Just order something else with this knife. Shipping won’t hurt so much.
