The dream of any bibliophile is to discover an ancient book with secret lost knowledge we still ignore today. Excellent book recommendations. Schools should teach history through mysteries and revelations.

Books that contain revelations… what can be better than that? 😁🌟📚📖🌟

Two more for the reading list! I once went to the top of this dome, which has a space between the outer roof and the inner ceiling for the winding steps - a huge and unforgettable achievement for someone uncomfortable with heights, and moreover after being laid low with Florence Syndrome for several days. The cathedral and the entire city are staggeringly beautiful and intriguing. The Greek astronomical calculator has surfaced in my peripheral vision several times but I wasn’t sure where to find out more about it in a book aimed at the lay person. Thank you as always for whetting our appetites and sending us out to explore our libraries and bookshops!

I always tried to read history books about wherever we lived at the time. I read Bruneleschi's Dome before we were stationed in Italy. It wads so good I reread it a second time while we lived there. Sadly, I never got the opportunity to visit Florence to see this architectural miracle myself. Now you have me intrigued by Decoding the Heaveens. Thank you for the episode.

So nice that we both enjoy the same book by Ross King. Maybe one day, you still go to Florence? ;-)

@@BoldBooksandBones Oh, gosh! Settling on one favorite book is such an exciting question, since I do not have one favorite, but have many, many. I've been reading for pleasure for over 55 years, and my tastes and interests have continued to evolve. Any book by Bill Bryson, or Simon Winchester, or Kurt Vonnegut, or... I need to ponder this question further. Thank you, Lieven. Good wishes to you as well.

@@BoldBooksandBones I was tempted to name Robert Caro's The Power Broker as a favorite book, which it remains, but I'll go with Harari's book, Sapiens, which changed the way I see the world, and our place in it. I'd have to write out my reason for saying that, to make sure my belief can be articulated sensibly (to myself, of course), but that's the impression I took away from reading Sapiens, which is one of those rare books I've taken the time to read twice. No need to reply. I'm sure you have better things to do. 👃
