By the sound of it, our evolutionary history is more or less what we know, its just the leap to homo sapiens was engineered rather than natural; it seems that the "missing link" species is kept in a preserve for study and conservation, but is native to Earth; its just that its extinct in its natural habitat.

I used to read fiction like this back in the 80's. It was a game called starfire. Empire building in space with other players. There are still a lot of magazines online you can buy that have good fiction for star trek, traveller, dungeons, and ship creation. I have two storage bins full of them to go into now and then. Im always amazed at the amount of content, complexity, and diversity of world lines they contain. Starlog, nexus, traveller, Gurps, D&D and more than i can remember magazines had plenty of flavorful stories to add spice to any kind of campaign for roleplaying. You could probably play a game then make a book of it afterwards. Not many people play board games like starfire anymore. Im glad i came across this.😊
@richgoranson2439
@richgoranson2439 7 месяцев назад
There are numerous books in the Starfire universe, written by the creator of the strategic rules of the game David Weber, better known for the Honor Harrington series of novels. He co-wrote the early books with Steve White. White has continued the series, first with co-author Shirley Meier (the Fifth Millenium series), and later with Chuck Gannon (contributor to Eric Flint's 1632 series and creator of the Tales of the Terran Republic series).

Besides, my mags are not in good condition and only hold sentimental value.

You might want to go look up a pair of short stories, written by Alen Dean Foster. The first one is titled; With Friends like These... The second one is simply Who needs enemies, but the stories are from a pair of anthologies of short stories. The subject deals with what remains of the Galactic Federation, centuries after recovering from a War with a group they thought either long dead or so reduced in stature as to no longer be a threat to galactic peace ( And exactly how VERY wrong they were on the subject). Spoiler alert, the group the galactic federation was worried about were Humans, the war ended not with a defeat of the Humans but rather with the entirety of the Humans being sealed on their planet while their entire system was placed behind a sealing barrier one which can't be opened from inside the barrier. The short stories are amusing, and are a perfect example of a Cautionary Tale. The two anthologies were originally published by Ballentine Books in the late 1970's early 80's ( 1978 - 1981). Enjoy.

The good thing about the aliens is that they're as dumb as they come. One tries to pass itself off as the Egyptian God Horus and fails dismally. It then blabs top secret galactic secrets to the first human it speaks to. This makes a refreshing change from the usual advanced aliens depicted in past Sci-Fi stories.

@@SankyEON That doesn't change the fact that it's well-written and well-told. I think this is the work of a man: www.youtube.com/@scifistories1977 But according to himself he harnesses AI voices etc. and he is very much into AI, so you're probably not completely wrong. AI is very usable when used right and I don't understand why you would 'lmao' it if it turns out to be 100% AI-created material. If it actually is purely AI-generated material that's very impressive in my opinion. However, I don't think that's the case, but ofc...I could be wrong, it happens to the best of us.
@theworldrealm72
@theworldrealm72 5 месяцев назад
@@TyranasauruzFlex6669 Thanks for the comment and yep, I've noticed that, and it is the weirdest thing. Why are they here in the 1st place if they have such big issues with the AI-generated material? I agree that AI must be kept far away from the news and has no business there, but when it comes to sci-fi stories and any other fiction it is very usable and it's not like all the human writers suddenly are out of a job. PS: A long rant about AI. This development will not stop, there is too much money in it and it brings a lot of progress to medical sciences etc. And it seems to me a lot of people have a very poor understanding of what AI is. They seem to believe it suddenly will come to life and start making decisions on its own and don't seem to understand that it can never exceed the boundaries it's given and is basically just a lot of codes and algorithms. AI is a wet dream to a lot of hardcore sci-fi fans and a nightmare to many others, but in reality, it can never become anything as we see in the movies and it is not something worth worrying over unless it is used to create fake news, propaganda a.s.o. With or without AI I think we have to be much better at checking the sources and verifying things ourselves instead of just assuming the news is telling us the truth these days. We have experienced fake news without the use of AI and it will probably not become less of a problem now that AI is becoming part of our daily lives.

The algorithm brought me here, and I am glad it did. I’m a fan of “Humans are Space Orcs” stories, but this, this is something different. Thoroughly enjoyed this compilation, and look forward to going through your archives, and enjoying the content. One thing, though: you have obviously gone to great trouble to present these. So why is the text filled with so many errors? I ended up just closing my eyes, and listening, as I was being taken out of the story trying to reconcile the text with the audio. Other than that, I would just like to say, “Bravo”, and thank you. Cheers,

Only problem i have with this story is the fact we share 99% of dna with our closest ancestors chims and slightly less with other primates. All mammals share the same bones just streched in different ways. This story implies we evolved on a different planet and dumped onto earth. There is now way in having a genetic code trillions of bits long almost identical to other earthly lifeforms just by chance. You can track evolution of all beings on earth simply by small changes in dna over millions of years.

I liked the premise and story, I listened to the whole thing. I have some questions sure to be answered in future installments. What happened to the Criller? Who controls the 2/3 of the Galaxy that the Federation doesn't? With the Orions, the Federation should already know about human nature? Are there humans outside of Federation space? Why not send Orions with the first delegation, why hide them at first?

This was answered. Humans were extremely lethal. No matter what strategies were given and even some that the federation could not compete with (sic), humans were able to adapt and achieve victory. Essentially, the author said humans made the Criller go extinct.

Frank Herbert wrote a similar short story where humans were extremely capable of violence , and were being visited by a shipload of anthropologists studying us.
@user-xv4ve5wj7i
@user-xv4ve5wj7i 7 месяцев назад
If I recall correctly his series starts with a starship from the federation making first contact with a new civilization of humanoids, who are very human like, but not Human. The ship has a group of scientists who must reach a concensous before agreeing to share advanced science /social secrets. The one among the scientists who has the deciding word is the Anthrpologist, NOT the head of the group or the captain of the ship. Everything seem to be going along in a fine and peaceful manner until the anthrpologist runs across a group of "teens" playing a odd "game". His seeing their actions raises red flags, because while humans play similar games, the reasons are more militeristic than for fun. He then cast his vote for them to leave imediatlly! Sorry it's been almost 40 some years since last I read the book it's from. I may be mistaken, but I think the stories name is Concenous Interplanetary, but as I said it's been a bloody long time since last I read it.

I just stumbled on this and have listened to the first 11 volumes and while it does seem interesting one thing bothers me. It's that when humanity listens to their origins from the Galatic Federation they never ask who were the Kriller? And why were they at war with the Federation? And more importantly why did they have to turn to a bio engineered warrior race like the humans when with there advanced and diverse species they should have been able to fight them without us? Also why couldn't they have turned to an Artificial warrior like AI bots or something like that? The humans never question beyond their own creation and part in the war as well as their abandonment on earth afterwards as they seek a place in this Galactic Federation when they very well should have. These questions should have been important to our discovery and knowledge as well as full disclosure of our past as well as the Federations past in order for us to fully understand our turn history and place in the galaxy and the greater universe as a whole. Now it is possible that these questions will be answered in later volumes but in my view this should have been asked and answered during the Federations appearance at the UN if not before so as to have a full understanding of all of this. Because as I listened no knowledge of who the Kriller were or why they were at war with the Federation was ever explained, just that they were at war with the Federation and the Federation through that geneticist created humans from a primate species on some planet in the Federation to fight and defeat the Kriller but nothing more was explained about them or why they were at war with the Federation. I see this as a oversight by the Author and something that should be addressed in an update to the series for clarities sake. At any rate I look forward to listening to the rest of this series just to see where it goes from here.
@demidivergence8180

I've been pondering that very question. The war with the Kriller is a very important mark in human history and yet it is never explained. We don't know why there was a war in the first place or what exactly became of the Kriller. Were they completely destroyed or abandoned to secluded world like humans were?

it reminds me of "mass effect", I'm more or less at the point after the guy has a vision of a human child. that makes me thing of a "mass effect 3" situation, or that something's wrong. there must be a dark side to the federation. I wonder if they are actually the bad guys, an oppressive dystopia and the aliens that lost the war are actually the resistance.

This was darn good. The only noted hiccup would be that the Galactic Federation (Which seems quite controlling and contradictory) having to vote on the human race existing within their Federation while already having humans (Orions) among them in every facet of their military, exploration, and even operational existence. Why would they object to a group already integrated with them? Unless this Federation, despite the seeming guise of unity, is actually an unstable unit that actually has an internal war that they are fighting (while looking down on humanity for their world wars though they developed then discarded humans..... for wars) The Federation in this book requires much revelatory fleshing out as to how they can make it seem like they are benevolent and aristocratic though actually full of nefarious actors and entities completely undermining the Federation itself. Despite these obvious points, again this is darn good and I would read this series while waiting to see how much more unfolds. Also, mildly sorry for everything I included. It's a fellow writer thing.
